Malc, you got a link to any specs for the Acer? My bro is after a laptop for his son and I think would be better for what he needs. Is it boxed as well?
I assume these are OK for running XP?

I had something similar for a while to have a play with (had it with me in Chester). They're great for the usual browsing, email, document editing etc., and of course slinging in a bag and taking anywhere. :)

Apparently my nephews uses powerpoint quite a bit. Any idea if it will be OK with this? Never used powerpoint so no idea how intensive it is.

It isn't particularly taxing at all. Should be fine.

Dude, I can run Eve on my netbook! Pretty sure powerpoint will run ok :p

Although, I would say that the 1024x600 screen may make it a bit restrictive for powerpoint...

True. Hadn't thought of that. :o

Pretty much sold everything Yesterday, Just waiting to see the money in my account & then the Sales are confirmed.
Just 1 x 1950Pro left For Sale unless one of the other Dudes pulls out.

As for the Acer One Mate, The one & only reason I am selling it is because of screen size, I certainly wouldn't recommend this Net book for graphically intense work. Perhaps it's my dodgey head but it Excels in moody interweb activities. Being so small on Linux & having the built in Wifi makes it Perfect for hijacking Broadband & moody surfing. You'll pay the price for long term use though by it frying your eyes. ;D
For Legal use this would be an ideal travel partner & way to stay in touch with everybody via Forums/Newsgroups & MSN using the Built in webcam. If you increase the text size it is very readable but you don't get enough of the page for something like Powerpoint. Linux runs Sweet on 512 of ram though & it is Plenty fast enough for the above purpose.
The real Kicker with the AcerOne is how awkward it is to upgrade the Ram, The Normal plate on the back is welded over so you literally have to strip the whole thing down to get to the back of the mobo to instal the extra Gig of ram it can take.
Having read up on this though it looks a piece of piss & I would do it to a brand new one no worrys at all, As for voiding the warranty Acer has instructions on there website so I "Think" you are safe there.

My advice to your Bro is to shop around for a 2nd hand Lappy with a Decent size screen a Dual core & spare slots for more ram. Dual core & 2 Gig is all you need to have a Very usable lappy if on XP, I'd say 150 quid will get him that No probs.
