Handy to know. Thanks. :)

So it's official then. ETA on the iPhone - 10th September.

One more question as it's pretty much the first app I know I'll need - of the big three navigation apps (TomTom, Co-Pilot, Navigon), what would you recommend (cost aside ;))?

Burble
02-09-2009, 16:55
Ignoring the cost then I'd say TomTom but I don't think TomTom is massively better than Co-Pilot so if I were buying one I'd go for Co-Pilot.

Mark
02-09-2009, 17:21
That does agree with my own thoughts on the subject, thanks.

Why the long wait on the phone? I couldn't stay sane throughout that length of time!!

Mark
02-09-2009, 19:11
Stock situation is a bit dire currently. Lots of places are out of stock completely, though I don't know if/how this is impacting Apple themselves.

I'm sure I'll survive. :p

I'll have a problem if I don't get it by the 16th though.

Desmo
02-09-2009, 21:03
Have you used Co-Pilot Mark? I think TomTom has a far clearer and easier to use interface, but it's your call :)

Mark
02-09-2009, 21:05
No, I've only used TomTom (my parents') and Garmin (my handheld). Obviously, it'll be mainly for pedestrian use (if it's good enough, I'll probably sell the Garmin).

Looking at accessories already :D - Might pick up a Chronos iDock alarm clock once the credit card has recovered - two problems with one solution. Will have to bodge the dock connector though as the iDock doesn't technically support the iPhone (it works) and even if it did it probably wouldn't work with the Neo fitted.

Most accessories have the universal dock socket where you can plug in the appropriate dock module - The CapsuleNeo comes with it's own dock module so you can use your iPhone with the case in any decent accessory. Very handy.

Mark
02-09-2009, 22:29
Thankyou. iDock does have a universal dock, so that's that sorted then (if/when the time comes).

Looking forward to it now, and working out how best to use up the £9.47 credit on my current SIM. :)

I've just jailbroken my phone again after installing 3.0.1 - am I now open to the SMS vulnerability again?

Mark
03-09-2009, 19:19
Not unless you downgraded the firmware in the process.

Apple changed their mind - shipped. Going to behave though and not use it until after the weekend (I'll inspect it and get the instructions out for some light reading). If I don't do that I'll spend all weekend playing and not doing any of the ongoing house clearing I'm supposed to be doing.

Sorry - need to be clear, it requires using 3.0.0 again.

Mark

It requires using the 3.0.0 IPSW file, which is not the same as re-flashing the firmware. :)

Desmo

Redsnow uses 3.0 to do the jailbreak, but check your phone firmware and you'll see it's still on 3.0.1 :)

Which is the site that sells the iPhone 'wraps' with all the designs? I know Belmit has one and having had the phone for a while I think the case is a bit too chunky for me, I think scratch proofing will be enough :)

Current phone -> Outlook -> iTunes -> iPhone is the normal way of doing it.

Mark
07-09-2009, 20:33
That would require installing iTunes on a PC - something I've so far managed to avoid. I want to do some cleanup on them all anyway so I'll do Phone > Outlook > Text File > Address Book > iPhone.

(It was the Address Book step I hadn't figured out in my last post - don't use my Mac enough, obviously)

I don't have a problem with iTunes, I find it works really well for me, but that's on a Mac and it's traditionally been a bit different on Windows. I really can't explain it but I never found that iTunes worked very well on a Windows box, it's like a lot of Mac users say that Firefox is rubbish on a Mac but can't quantify why they say that.

Jhadur

Why do people not like iTunes?

The main reason I dislike it is that it won't let me queue up music the way I want. What I like to do is listen to an album then queue up another, then another and so on. With iTunes you can create a playlist but I don't want to do that, I want to decide there and then what I want next.

One step I couldn't get to work while Jailbreaking. The instructions say hold down Option while clicking Restore in iTunes, then point it at the firmware .ipsw file. I couldn't get that to work - it always went to Apple for the firmware.

No matter because 3.0.1 is the current version, but I'd be interested if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong as I'd like to be able to do it when 3.0.1 isn't the current firmware. :)

No idea but it'd be a good idea to get the iBEC & iBSS files which can be used to jailbreak in the future if (when?) Apple firmly close the door. If you're a Mac user then you can follow the instructions here (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4400).

Mark
09-09-2009, 21:51
Chances are very high that redsn0w will not work with 3.1. There were dire warnings not to upgrade to the 3.1 Beta because the exploit had been fixed.

Fortunately I already have iBEC and iBSS files safely squirrelled away. No idea what they'll be used for I've got them. I've got my phone's ECID too.

This does bring back my problem with doing Option+Restore though. If I have to restore and I can't restore to the firmware I want, then that's the end of the Jailbreak. :(

I'm sure for a power user like you it's useful, for me, I just want to get my email, browse the net, and have a cool easy user interface and an ipod built into one - iphone is ideal for my needs! Oh and it makes calls too! :D I do use some apps (only got a handful) which are useful to me but I don't really customise my phones, or my computers that much - it's not my thang. I don't like fiddling with things to get extra functionality which a) I don't really need and b) could potentially **** up the phone.

Maybe essential was a bit strong but having my 5 most commonly used things (phone, messages, contacts, email & calendar) showing irrespective of what page of the home screen is extremely useful.

SBSettings is something I use at least twice a day. Having the bluetooth radio on kills the battery so I only turn it on when I'm getting into the car then turn it off when I finish my journey. SBSettings lets me turn BT off with just a swipe and a button press compared to having to go to the relevant page on the home screen, settings, general, bluetooth, on/off.

Oh I agree the the 5 icon thing is actually quite neat , that I do like - but it's not enough to tempt me (not that you're trying to, I'm just rambling :p).

I don't have BT in the car, and don't use 1/2 those settings most of the time and anything I need switched off/on I can get to quickly enough - but unlike you I don't do it often so it's not a ball ache for me. :)

I can completely see why this is so so useful for someone who extensively uses their phone's features daily - hence why you're a big cheese of IT in a big company earning a pretty penny, and I use a computer for email! :D

Even with the protection on it's way thinner than my old phone, so I'm very happy with the results. It's a keeper. :)

Feek, I didn't get an AppleCare code. There's one other person who left a Negative for what I suspect was the same thing (comment is in Spanish so I'm not sure). Tried a contact but got ignored, so I'll open a dispute and be nice - it could have just got lost in the mail (I'm missing an iTunes receipt from about the same time too).

Hopefully you geniuses can answer me this...

On the iPhone phonebook, it will only allow you to save one number as "Mobile" per contact... yet my Aussie cousin could save multiple "Mobile" entries for one person.

It's annoying as a couple of people on my list have two mobile numbers (transition periods etc) and I'm having to save one of them as "Car Phone" or "Fax" :p

Nothing major mind you ;D

edit: Not an Aussie thing as my mate down the road can add multiple entries for a "Mobile" under one contact too :S

Feek
12-09-2009, 23:01
Go into the contact

Edit in the top right corner

Tap the green plus where it says 'add new phone'

There's space for a number, below that is the number type, tap that and then scroll right down and you have lots of categories with 'Add Custom Label' right the bottom.

I use that one a lot, things like 'iPhone' and 'old mobile' etc.

Blighter
12-09-2009, 23:08
But that's what is odd.. I don't get 2 of the supposed options that everyone else seems to have.

O2 have released an iPhone app so that you can track your remaining minutes, texts and so on. It does the same as the Mobile Allowance app but it's free.

The O2 app is called 'My O2' and is available on the app store now.

I've got this and Mobile Allowance installed and the O2 app takes well under half the time that Mobile Allowance does to give you results.

Mark
15-09-2009, 16:32
Looks like O2 are doing their usual - I can't get at my account via the app or via the web. Actually, I've never been able to see anything about my phone account via 'My O2', but CS told me that's because I'm on PAYG. Were they talking crap? :dunno:

I realise that most people here probably don't do this, but what's the best way for finding out train times? There's an app for that, but it's £4.99, which seems rather steep for information you can get for free.

Burble
15-09-2009, 16:37

Burble
15-09-2009, 16:54
Thinking about it, it is probably worth a fiver. Sure, the information is available elsewhere FOC but there's definitely something to be said for having it all presented and searchable without any faffing.

It's a good app. It proved very useful for me a few weekends ago when I was at the mercy of First Capital Connect as I could see where the train actually was, how late it was leaving the last station and so on. The app was much more accurate than the tannoy announcements at St. Pancras.

I was the same. The iPhone is a very polished and finished product and it just does what you want but just not as flexible as others. Having said that, I've not come across anything that has stopped me doing something majore that I wanted to. I'm jailbroken which does help.

I think I made the right choice or me.

Toby
24-09-2009, 13:44
Can I ask exactly what you do with your jailbroken phone that you couldn't do with a non-jailbroken one? Not really prepared to hack about with whatever I get (at least for a while) so if there's some things I need which I can't do on a standard iPhone it might swing the decision.

Nothing major, but things that just make it nicer to have and to use. I think there are a couple of things listed a page or so back, but for me, the main ones are themes, SBSettings (which allows access to quick toggles for wireless, bluetooth, etc.), lockinfo (which shows my calendar entries, emails, SMS, etc. on the lock screen), biteSMS (a better SMS app with lots of features), Autosilent (allows me to silence alert sounds at different times of the day, mainly through the night for me). These are just a few things of the top of my head. None of them ground breaking, but enough to make it a better phone for me.

Daz
24-09-2009, 13:58

Toby
24-09-2009, 14:08
That's the thing Daz, some of those things Desmo lists (tnx btw) sounds really rather useful and I fear I'd get frustrated at not being able to use them without jailbreaking my phone and all the risk that entails. The fact that I can do such things on Android appeals to me.

Daz, do you have the Magic or Hero?

Daz

Toby
24-09-2009, 14:30
Bit confused about the Sense UI - what exactly does this give you over and above "virgin" Android?

Also, I presume the update is a "properly" available update that anyone can install, i.e. you don't need to root the phone or anything?

Daz
24-09-2009, 14:38
Sense lets you easily store and switch between any number of layouts/wallpaper/sound combinations you decide to create (so one for home/work/whatever), and also comes with a bunch of pretty snazzy HTC widgets on top of the Android stuff.

The update is available direct from HTC for phones bought direct from them/sim free/unbranded, Orange have made their version available and T-Mobile are apparently getting theirs out this week.

I installed the ROM direct from HTC with little trouble, no rooting required, just a little help from the Android SDK. I'm impatient :D

Desmo

Of course, but you still don't have the same amount of apps kicking around :)
I still think that for me the whole way Apple stuff works is best for me and I was happy to jailbreak to get the extras rather than have a much more open platform but maybe not work quite as well. But then I've not used the Hero extensively.

Toby
24-09-2009, 15:35
Have HTC "locked down" the Hero in any way over and above standard Android with their Sense UI or is it just as customisable? Thinking of things like keyboards as I understand HTC have put their own on there - are you still able to install others as with "normal" Android?

Well I'm just over a month from my upgrade window and I'm now so torn between the iPhone and an HTC Magic/Hero that I really haven't a clue which way to jump.

I spent two months deciding. I'd suggest forgetting the Magic - the Hero with latest firmware is a better choice. Both Hero and iPhone are great phones and they both have their strengths.

I chose an iPhone because the interface (with accessibility options on the 3GS) was much better for me and my bad eyesight. People bemoan things like the lack of multitasking, but I've switched from a true multitasking phone (running WinMo) to an iPhone and not regretted it one bit. I'm loving it in fact. I just wish Apple wouldn't act like a spoiled brat over access to the platform - then it wouldn't be necessary to jailbreak in the first place.

Speaking of jailbreaking, mine was done within the first week, for much the same reason as Desmo - it's the little things like five icon dock and SBSettings that make a great phone better. They're not essentials so if I ever lost the jailbreak it'd be an annoyance rather than a disaster, but it's enough of a justification for me not to do the 3.1 firmware upgrade. At least not yet. Apple are doing their best to lock out the jailbreak community, but they're smart guys and I'm sure they'll find ways given enough time. The same might not be true for unlocking, but that doesn't bother me (not yet, anyway).

Mark
26-09-2009, 22:17
If you decide on the Hero, then I just noticed Orange are offering £150 cashback via Quidco only (might get it on Topcashback via their guarantee). New customers only (you can port out and port back but don't blame me if it doesn't complete in time).

Garp
29-09-2009, 18:32
Competition is always good. It's been clear for a while that Apple needs to drop it's exclusivity with various networks. They've had the chance to settle and prove the iPhone, establish it as more than just a flash-in-the-pan and exclusivity has been a big barrier to further market growth. I can't see any real benefit to Apple in staying exclusive any more. It only serves to restrict their potential market.

Hopefully this move in the UK will be a precursor to them making the same change here. AT&T's network and customer service have a very bad reputation, and a lot of people are seriously frustrated with the number of dropped calls, calls that never arrive (even when in strong signal), text messages that take several hours to arrive and so on. About a month ago AT&T had an outage on their visual voicemail service for a few days in the San Francisco bay area, which they didn't bother telling people about. First people found out was when the service suddenly came back on and they found lots of voicemails waiting.
I would suspect if AT&T loses the exclusivity they will find their subscribers leaving in droves.

Mark

They do however have a reported FUP in the 200MB range. Not sure if that applies to the iPhone packages though.

Burble

Do you have a Windows machine you could do it on, Mark? You'll need to run the tool on OS X but there's no reason why you can't them copy that custom IPSW to a Windows box and do the firmware change from there.

It could indeed be a Windows keyboard getting in the way. I've got a couple of OS X machines with a Windows keyboard, one uses ALT for option, the other uses the Windows key.

I'm going to have a bash at it on Friday assuming I get some time.

Mark

Nice and easy.

In your music library, right click on an album (I do it from the grid view and click on the album cover) and add it to a playlist.

Once this is done then in the iPhone control screen, select the music tab and in there click to sync the selected playlist...

Go to iPod, then go to Playlists, then go to On-The-Go Playlist. It'll let you add songs by default, but you can navigate around like normal and add albums instead :)

You do have to go in the album and go 'add all songs' but it's quick still.

Oh and also it does 'sync' that playlist back to your iTunes once you sync it as well but you can only make one at a time, if you know what I mean.

I mean you can make one on the phone, then it'll go onto your iTunes as 'on-the-go 1' then you can make another on the phone, but I don't believe you can make several in one sitting on the phone, without syncing inbetween.

I'm sure there would be a way if people set their mind on it. Is there anything special that Garmin do that other software companies don't? I mean, people crack all sorts of software from small apps to DVD encryption. I can't see Garmin being THAT special that they've found the foolproof way.

Mark
13-10-2009, 12:48
Garmin's activation procedure seems well designed and secure. Given enough time someone could probably create a keygen or crack the firmware, but there just isn't the reward so no-one bothered.

Apple, on the other hand, make schoolboy errors in their security that lets hackers walk all over it. For example, the simple replay attacks that have been used to allow people to downgrade at will are so obvious and incredibly easy to defend against, but Apple didn't.

If they wanted to shut the community out properly, they could. For example, they could very easily ban jailbroken phones from iTunes and the App Store, but they don't for one very good reason - the community makes them money. I'm the classic example of that - my iPhone is jailbroken but I still use the App Store, regularly.

I had this a few times, all you have to do is press on/off and the menu button randomly a few times and it comes on, and yes, since I've updated to 3.1.2 it hasn't done it :)
SMSs are backed up through iTunes, I've had my phone replaced recently and when I restored it, my texts all came back. They also stayed on the phone when I jailbroke it and they were also there when I de-jailbroke it afterwards.

That's pretty neat :)

As Feek says, everything is backed up to iTunes. I've done a few upgrades and never lost a text message.

Thanks. Just read the Apple article on what gets backed up. Pretty much everything then.

Slight complication because I can't use my normal iTunes installation to do the firmware restore. Think I can work around that one though.

You don't need to use your normal iTunes installation for a restore. I've just restored my iPhone on my netbook then plugged it back into my MacBook to restore the backup.

are there any decent apps you guys can recommend?
Not sure how I forgot this one but Lockscreen Info is great.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/piggymon/Computer%20Stuff/iPhone/de4d3bd2.jpg

It shows email, phone, text, voicemail, weather, etc. on your lockscreen and is quite customisable and has lots of plugins.

You need to add these repos to cydia...

Now that is cool! I've seen a similar program called SmartScreen but that's a paid for app and AFAIK hasn't been released yet.

Mark
16-10-2009, 10:35
Very nice. I assume that doesn't prevent notifications or iPod controls working on the lock screen.

Desmo
16-10-2009, 10:41
Nope, everything works just the same with regards to messages popping up and other controls. You can also fold and unfold each section so if I tap "Upcoming Events 1" on my screen it will unfold and show me the details. Same with texts, emails, etc. You can set the default to folded/unfolded and how many items it shows. It's pretty customisable :)

I've updated my 3GS to 3.1.2 using a firmware made through Pwnage tool.

Before I started I found some forum posts saying that having Icy installed can upset Cydia so I removed Icy from my firmware.

No problems to report.

Ok so i'm jailbroken, woo! :) But how do i remove Icy, since it might case problems and i don't really need it?

I also assumed backing up my iphone and "transfering purchases" would make sure i kept all my apps, but apparently not? I've lost them for good i suspect?

Feek
21-10-2009, 09:04
Surely that shouldn't matter. Applications are linked to the iTunes account, not the actual device.

LeperousDust
21-10-2009, 09:07
Yeah indeed i just encountered that, went ahead and click buy anyway itunes said i already paid click ok for free! Well done apple! :D

Burble

But how do i remove Icy, since it might case problems and i don't really need it?

You can't. Well, you can attempt to remove it through Cydia but that'll cock up your iPhone. The trick is to not install it in the first place which is something that needs to be done during the firmware generation process.

Sorry dude, I didn't know about the Icy problems when I built your firmware - I'll rebuild one tonight that hasn't got Icy installed and PM you a download link.

Did you use the hacktivated version or normal?

LeperousDust
21-10-2009, 09:22
I used the hacktivated version, but tbh im not sure if i can be arsed doing all that again :p Especially if i cock up the apps again this is annoying redownloading everything! If i dont use Icy is it really a problem?

Burble
21-10-2009, 09:26
From what I read just having Icy installed is enough to screw up Cydia. I saw a screenshot someone posted of an error in Cydia saying that it couldn't identify what version of Cydia it was running and that there was no known fix short of a restore using a firmware that hasn't got Icy installed.

LeperousDust
21-10-2009, 09:36
Balls, dont want that happening then, probably best to give me some new firmware then, but let it be known i hate you :p Already had generic errors that had me worried whilst restoring and had to download iREB to fix :p

Burble
21-10-2009, 09:38
You hate me eh? I'll be sure to remember that when I put some 'extras' into your new firmware :)

Install cydelete from cydia and it should allow you to remove Icy just like any other app :)

so... finally picked up mine today. won't be breaking it, get it much cheapness on o2 anyway and don't see the need for me personally.

what apps should i pick up from the official app store?

and does anyone have the myo2 app working?

Dymetrie

Which apps you get depends on what you want to do...

My most used are:

Tube status (for London tube stuffs)
Stanza (for ebooks)
eBay (for eBay :p)
Capsuleer (for Eve stuffs)
Wikipanion (for informations)

...and then various others on occasion :)

the myO2 app works great for me on 3g but fails on wifi...

Which is odd :D

karbon
26-10-2009, 21:28
i got a network fail message so took it off the wireless and tried on the 3g, but it still failed there too :(

3.1.2 on, Pwned, etc. Thanks to everyone for the advice.

I need to sync it back with iTunes to get all the apps and music back but that's no bother. I'll do it tomorrow when I've got the Mac running OS X (I had to do the convoluted PwnageTool (OS X) -> iTunes (Windows) -> iTunes (OS X) mess). Windows did the whole Backup/Upgrade/Restore sequence on its own though so all my SMS, email settings, contacts, Wi-fi settings etc. are still there.

Maybe I can do away with the Windows step when I upgrade the Mac to Snow Leopard (procured a copy last week - just need to find the time to back everything up to a spare external drive and actually do it.

PS - I got the problem with the carrier name not showing on the status bar. I presume everyone gets that as there are so many reports of it. Also got a hang when installing SBSettings but 3.0.1 did that too.

Install MakeItMine from Cydia and then you can manually set some text for the carrier. Not ideal but I prefer it to having a blank space.

Yep, works fine for me over 3G and WiFi.

Mark
27-10-2009, 11:50
Think it's contract-only. I never got it to work but then I'm on PAYG.

Desmo
27-10-2009, 11:53
MyO2 does work with PAYG. I had to try and log in god knows how many times before it would work. Once you're in though you set up a PIN and now it works every single time without fail.

Mark
27-10-2009, 12:21
Can you see anything about your account by logging in on the web? If I go to 'My O2' online, I can log in fine and see personal details, but as far as they're concerned my phone doesn't exist.

Mark
27-10-2009, 12:33
OK, despite the missing account details (would be nice to be able to fix that), I cracked it:

Fix the APN settings on the iPhone - forgot to do that after upgrading. :o
Go to http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2, log in, click 'Find out more' under 'My personal details'.
In the personal details page, make sure the mobile number listed is correct. If not, change it. You'll get an activation code to enter.
Go back to My O2 on the iPhone and log in.

karbon
27-10-2009, 19:07
my "my o2" works now. i had a second account on their site which had been generated for me, which is stupid and i'll never remember.

this one works on my phone, i can check my balance online with the more sensible username. it works but is a bit silly.

Thanks Takhisis.

In summary, Orange's £30 contract deal is better than O2's, and their internet tethering rate is also much better (though why either company charge for that is still beyond me). Other than that, one could be forgiven for suggesting there was some price fixing going on. Surely Apple would never do such a thing, would they? ;)

Wonder if the OFT will take a look.

karbon
03-11-2009, 11:17
i think it's more that apple charge a massive amount for the handset and neither company can bring it down below that. as i understand o2 had to change the iphone contract a few times to stop themselves losing money on it (hence the no unlimited texts and stuff)

also the charge for tethering is so that they don't lose money on people with a mobile broadband dongle. hence the same pricing for that as tethering.

Just seen this (http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/11/dutch-hacker-holds-jailbroken-iphones-hostage-for-5.ars) on digg about a dutch hacker taking control of iPhones. Not sure if it's relevant to any jailbroken phones here but thought I'd let you all know :)

Burble
03-11-2009, 13:06
That just goes to show why unnecessary services (SSH as usual) should be disabled when not needed and passwords shouldn't be left as default.

Unfortunately a freshly jailbroken iPhone will be ripe for the picking as they'll have SSH running and a default known password (alpine in this case).

Mark
03-11-2009, 13:09
Interesting, though the likes of Saurik have been warning about this one for a while. It's an SSH-based exploit. If you use SSH on your iPhone, change the default password. Job done. :)

Don't think I have SSH on my iPhone. I didn't choose to install it, at any rate.

Burble
03-11-2009, 13:11
I thought that OpenSSH was installed by default when Cydia went in, but thinking about it I did specifically install it.

Mark
03-11-2009, 13:21
I think OpenSSL may be installed by default (for HTTPS access presumably). OpenSSH isn't.

I just checked port 22 over wi-fi and it's closed. Interestingly when I tried the same thing over the WAN IP, I got nothing (not even a response to a ping), so maybe this is also network-dependant.

Burble

Isn't the WAN IP an RFC1918 address? In which case you wouldn't be able to scan unless you initiated the scan from something else in that subnet.

Incidentally the chap has posted removal instructions (http://mr09.fileave.com/).

Mark
03-11-2009, 13:36
True, it is. Didn't spot that one but I should have. :o

Anyway, if I install OpenSSH (which I doubt I will) I'll be sure to change the password. :)

connected my phone to itunes for the first time in months yesterday after i couldn't get an app straight from my phone - had to use the pc to download it.

anyway, i'm back to that old problem of itunes removing loads of apps and now some of those downloaded wont install 'due to an unknown error'

I can't find the fix that Desmo told me last time but i've got, what i thought was, everything i need installed; Cydia, installous (and rock if that makes a difference)
what am i missing?

I've had that problem too, can't remember exactly how I fixed it. I think I needed to enable or disable something in Winterboard.

Joe 90
27-11-2009, 20:42
i'll have a look around. there was 'lockinfo matte ui' in winterboard, but that just made the whole thing disappear :/

oh and before i forget (again) - does anybody else get 'failure to fetch' errors when loading cydia? happens to me every time it loads from a data source.

Mark
27-11-2009, 20:46
Probably just a repository gone down. Happens quite frequently. If you get it all the time then you may have a duff source configured (check the list of sources in Cydia).

Burble
27-11-2009, 20:55
If you're getting it every time you fire up Cydia then I think it's more likely an incorrectly setup repository rather than a down repository. I was getting the same message when I setup a source incorrectly and despite removing it from the Cydia GUI the source remained so I needed to remove it manually.

The instructions I used are here (http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=220864&highlight=bzip2).

just updated TomTom (via iTunes) and its gone and forced me to agree to remove apps installed via Installous again!!

is there any way to stop this happening? its really annoying to have to get them all again, especially when some of them cause me issues in getting back!

Mark
29-11-2009, 01:55
Legal TomTom or a hacked version? If the former, it's probably them trying to get revenge for the latter. That sort of thing often backfires. :)

Joe 90
29-11-2009, 02:15
hacked... but i thought it was all the same to itunes once the apps are in the directory.

its not tomtom's doing though, its itunes. happened the other day before i did anything with tomtom. damned iTunes - got rid of like 15 apps the other day :/

Mark
29-11-2009, 02:25
Well, I deliberately avoided using iTunes for anything that wasn't in the App Store. Sounds like I made the right choice. I'd suggest you junk AppSync and do it directly on the phone.
