View Full Version : 360 drive cleaner?
For the past few days my 360 has been telling me that some games discs are dirty half way through playing. Its got worse. Last night it was picky about what games loaded but GoW2 loaded. Tonight it didn't load GoW2. Tried other games and they didn't work either. Anyone know if theres a special lens cleaner I can buy to fix it, or is the drive on its way out for some reason?

Vivanco make one as well. Given the typical design of these things I'd imagine they can be a bit abrasive, so 'using every month' probably isn't so smart.

Sounds like your drives on the way out tbh, my mate used to have the problem, he got his Xbox360 swapped over.
This is a day 1 launch machine. Not sure I can get it swapped. I do worry that running a cleaner on it might make things worse, though not sure how much worse it could be.
Just tried other games. Nothing. Tried a dvd, went to black and gave me some random pixels with a bit of green. I've had this since day 1 and survived the whole rrod only to be taken down by the dvd drive. Lame.

Seeing as this a console that has been proven to be inherently flawed MS seem to be very easy to 'scare' into a free repair.
To but it bluntly, a mate had the same issue with a 2 year old console, he shouted at a poor MS employee lots, they gave him a free repair. It's not something i'd encourage, but it's worth knowing that if you're enough of a **** they will still repair for free.
In 4 months it'll be 4 years old. Think its a bit past its warrenty date.

Seeing as you've had one last THIS LONG, Microsoft should really give you 2 in return!
I would still get on to them. MS did admit to an inherent flaw.
Haha yeah. "Hi MS. I've got a launch day 360 that *hasn't* rrod but the drive failed. ... Holy crap we'll fix it right away" I'll ring em tomorrow. I just happened to find my receipt the other day too. Just sold my Wii so I guess its the DS for a while.

Just claim it's red ringed, whether it's 3 or 1 shouldn't really matter, both are covered now.
But they wouldn't fix the drive would they? Or even with it being nearly 4 years old would they replace it?

They replace the console with a previously refurbished one. You won't be getting the same console back.
Nokkons right, just claim 3rrod on that sucker.

They stopped trying to fix individual machines before sending them back as it took too long for something with an inherent flaw so instead they send you an old one they fixed.
Ah right. But it is 8 months out of warranty, or should I just forget when I bought it? :)
Get a replacement drive off ebay n fix it yourself?

I would just try and force the matter to be honest. It's well known every model released at launch was inherently faulty with Microsoft admitting as much. They added a 3 year warranty, but surely if they (microsoft) admit to every unit having a design flaw they don't have a leg to stand on.
You could try and get a drive and fix it, the disadvantage there is you lose all warranty altogether, with a refurb you get another 12 months. Personally I'd just try MS.
