Major news outlets were reporting he'd been rushed to hospital, it's all over twitter that he's apparently died:

Concerts were supposed to be imminent too it seems.

He was taken to hospital, not breathing and given CPR. Also reports he was in a deep coma.

LA Times has also just said he has died.

Well, he was supposed to be performing in the UK in a few weeks. Dead or not that obviously isn't going to happen now. Sadly the reports are gaining momentum so I suspect it's true.

Gone, he was a legend and the stuff he did as a kid and in the 80s, but his life after that was a mess, I want to know what tests the organisers of the massive concerts in London this summer, someone dropped a bollock.

The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within hours of going on sale in March, and these will now be thrown seriously into doubt.

Nooooooo. :(

I wasn't dreaming :(

It's odd. I've never been completely gutted over any celeb dying really. But this. I'm beyond sad. Everyday... evvvvveeery day, without fail, I would listen to my Micky J cassettes when I was ickle. It's the first music I recall falling in love with. One day actually, we had our cassettes knicked from the car and I was properly sad. I think I even cried! lol.

I have sooooooo many memories which involve doing stupid dances to his music. I got my school in a dance competition where we re-did the Smooth Criminal scene once and we won it! In fact... looky... an old photo of me practising the leany bit!

http://pheebeh.googlepages.com/1MJ.jpg

(Scuse the dodgy wall paper - my parents did it for me whilst I was away skiing... I was like "Nooooo!" lol)

But yeh. The next year we did Micky J Thriller and I was MJ and we won that too... but it's unsurprising because it's all completely legendary dance moves!! And I have memories of singing with my bro to his choons - we'd be in hysterics at Siberian Girl! The intro always sounded like "Nuppa nuppa pia, nuppa nuppa pia, pens away" and we thought it was funny as. Silly really. I never knew the words to Smooth Criminal when I was ickle ickle either and there's a video of me somewhere wondering about with my head phones singing "Sony sony walkman... sony walkman... sony walkman ANnnnnie!" (supposed to be Annie or you okay, are you okay, are you okay annie!). I didn't realise I was being filmed and was busting some ickle kid moves too!

Aww.

Seriously.

Gutted.

I've always massively wanted to see a Micky J musical (like Queen styley We Will Rock You). I can imagine now this has happened it won't be long until they do do something like this. It would be sold out in seconds.

It's a shame his life turned out that way.

I agree with Desmo.
In his earlier years he was an awesome performer but the "Wacko Jacko" stuff turned me off him and finally the sleeping with little boys thing turned me against him entirely.

I would never gloat over the death of someone like MJ but, at the same time, I find it difficult to feel any grief over his physical demise. The loss of his talent, on the other hand, is something definitely to be mourned - but I mourned that many years ago.

Pheebs I agree a lot of genii do suffer certain idiosyncrasies that humanise them to our level - however as I said his music was undoubtedly one of the biggest phenomenons to world musical culture - he effectively brought black and white music together to a certain extent.

He did suffer self image problems that I'm all too familiar with, hence his drastic transformation - he just didn't like what he saw in the mirror, and unfortunately also went off the rails a little - but I think this shouldn't mar the positive and good things he's brought.

Awesomely put.

I still love his music, except for the odd one or two like Earth Song.

However, I still have a spectacular memory of Chicagos in Essex, where they ended the night with an MJ medley, and a certain Mr. Von Smallhausen decided that Earth Song was the most appropriate song to moonwalk across the empty stage to, with images of starving kiddies filling the projector screen behind him.

Yes very well put Stan..

talented and controversial, he has made an impact on all of us in some way or another. I remember queuing hours to buy Thriller (for my gf ehhmm) and it remains the biggest selling album even today.

You only have to look at recent shows such as BGT to see how much his music is admired by the covering he gets, even from younger people who weren't even born. Incredible really..

However, I still believe in no smoke without fire and I shall keep my remaining comments to myself.

He maybe dead but his legacy will live on and grow stronger.

Very good summary from Stan, I have to say I feel the same way.

I do feel sorry for Michael Jackson he was hugely exploited early in his life and missed a big chunk of childhood which he seemed to be constantly trying to regain, I suspect that behind the mask there were some serious mental illness issues put down the excentricity of a megastar, anyone who hates themselves enough to want to make the radical physical changes he did needs a good shrink.

I grew out of his music a long time ago, I can still listen to Thriller and Off the Wall and admire the talent but I think I grew up and Jackson stayed the same

He was someone who changed the music industry whether you feel that was for the better or worse he certainly deserves a place in the top 10 list of most influential artists.

He had his problems, both psychological, mental and body image wise (hence the ops to chance himself). He was tormented, and was the "peter pan" of pop. I don't think of that when I think of MJ, I think of the "real" jacko, the one from the 80s that turned pop around.

Why remember the bad times?

Though I'm actually finding the jokes funny :o I'm sorry :(

Fully agree. MJ was an absolute Legend who sadly never really topped his 80s stuff. Occasionally I still put on "Bad" and "Thriller" and it's rare for them to ever fail to lift my spirits and get my feet dancing. They were his absolute pinnacle, and amazing work.

Despite already having started to go down hill, his feature length music video Ghosts far beats Thriller as far as I'm concerned, especially as he choreographed everything in it. It is an absolute work of art and well worth a viewing if you haven't seen it already.

God bless, rest in peace MJ, and I hope you find the peace on the other side of the grave you could never quite find on this side.

When I was growing up everyone had two albums - Bad and Appetite for Destruction.

He was already an icon for his music and a one man publicity circus for his antics in his private life, his untimely death can only add to his legend.

Agree with Stan there. It is/was a shame for such a talented individual who also lead such a tormented life. I remeber watching a documentary about him a few years back in which MJ responded to some of the allegations of being a kiddy fiddler. It was a shame to see how hard his Dad was on him and how he used to beat on him. Then to be coccooned from normal life to live in the showbiz spotlight from such an early age must have distorted what we would consider to be normality.

It's a real shame but his better days are most certainly behind him

Well none of the really bad stuff was ever proven one way or the other so I'm not going to comment on that.

When I was about 8 I got my first Walkman and one of the tapes I got with it was Bad. I listened to that tape a million times and his music has a special place in my heart. I wish we could of seen more of the 'real' MJ but when you are that big its going to tear you apart one way or another.

Agreed. I always think it's sad when people achieve such amazing levels of creativity and do so much for the world of music, and yet if they don't remain as consistently brilliant (which is very unlikely to ever be achievable), then somehow their brilliance is tainted. Shouldn't happen.

He WAS a major influence in the lives of many people young & old alike. he changed the face of music completely and he's present in virtually every single dance act you see today, the likes of Diversity, George Sampson, Justin Timberlake - they all have their roots in Jackson's moves & music as do so many more.

I find it really distasteful that people who feel he was a huge part of their growing up and childhood are feeling like they have to justify why they feel sad today or why it's a big deal to them - it's all over forums/twitter etc. Just because the media make it a massive hype and ram it down everyone's throats isn't the fault of those who will genuinely feel sorrow that the guy has died - and I don't like that they're having to read people who don't care about it slating him and by proxy, them for feeling that way.

You know what - I didn't know Michael Jackson personally, I don't really have any real reason for being sad that the human being has passed away, other than it's always sad when that happens to someone. However, today people are grieving for not just MJ the man - if they are at all - more it seems it's a little bit more of their childhood - their inspiration -their formulative years that died yesterday - and I think they should be allowed to do it without all this attitude directed towards them and the man who changed the face of pop music & popular culture forever.

I agree with Kitten n Nokkon. There's never been another King of Pop. Theres been big artists since but never been another MJ. I remember seeing Bad being advertised on tv as a kid and that was my first real taste of music. The first time I ever wanted to own some music. My Dad bought the lp for me. I remember when he came to Aintree. That was *huge*!! MJ here. My cousins sat on their garage to see the screens and listen to the gig. I think one even had tickets.

By my teens it wasn't "cool" to be a fan but I still was. Music tastes change, things are fogotten. His biggest hit of recent years was his court case. Thats a pretty sad thing really. I remember being glad that Earth Song was the xmas number 1 and some stupid cheesey cashin wasn't.

Smooth Criminal has to be one of the best songs ever. Brilliant video. I remember being amazed at the dance moves. Still dunno if its Eddie or Anne though.

He was the King of Pop. Changed music. Changed people. RIP.

I'm in agreement with Stan, Kitten, Nokkon, petemc, and just about everyone else.

Thriller set the bar for everyone else, and at least purely in terms of numbers set it so high that no-one has, nor is ever likely to (assuming trends continue) top it. As far as MJ's career went, it was near perfection. How could he top that? Then his personal life went bonkers and that was that.

Personally, I was never a fan of MJ's music, but that doesn't detract from what he achieved - it was simply groundbreaking.

Agreed, and well said.

I've seen a lot of negative comments today on various other forums/twitter about Michael (I've also seen lot's of 'Rest in Piece' comments, my 10yr old would even get that right), I find it a shame that such a talented and kind man has become a complete joke to many people, sure he brought a fair bit of it on himself, but the talent this man had and the thoughtful things he has done for people in need in my eyes won't be matched. I haven't been a 'fan' of Michael since I was a child but I have utmost respect for the guy, as Mark said above, groundbreaking stuff.

Aww been listening to some CHOONS today!

Generally speaking, I really dislike covers, particularly of those of stupendous bands. There's one MAHOOSIVE exception to this rule though - Micky J's Come Together. It's the first song I heard that made me go "zomg bass guitar is wickedy woo!"

:D

Something UBER bothering me though, and due to silly crashing computer I canny search it without it freezing, what on earth is the song where he does a BRILLIANT dance routine in the middle of a darkened street with a bunch of dudes? They're all silhouetted and I think dancing for a sexy lady friend. I don't even think it's to music. Misty and everything.

I thought it was on the Moonwalker video but can only think of The Way You Make Me Feel and when googled it came up with an intro I know... but not the one I'm thinking of.

Unless there's two types...

Really irritating me now. I used to love the dance to it and being ickle I thought it was SUPER wude they all looked like they humped the floor at one point! I would giggle my socks off! :D

I just don't get it.

Growing up he was my hero. Posters on the wall, I loved the music. Then all that other stuff came along and it's quite clear what sort of a bloke he is. Not uncommon for abused kids to end up continuing the circle.

Yet for some unknown reason people just bat that away. Some of his fans are as nuts as he was. If you showed them a video caught in the act they wouldn't believe it.

I know women that get jumpy when a friendly old neighbour that lives alone gives their kids sweets, yet would happily queue for 3 months to go to one of jackos concerts.

Put it this way would you happily let one of your kids go and stay there on a play date?

Hopefully now in the coming years the police will realease more into the public eye what they had with wacko the first time because they were confident they had enough to go after him. Once the fuss has died down I'm sure we will be getting a better insight.

No man especially one with money would pay tens of millions to make this sort of problem go away. Pay hush money. I'd fight that in court to my dieing breath.

Such a shame, because the man was the best entertainer in the world. Not a fan of his music anymore but at the time I thought he was awesome. I feel bad for his kids, no age to lose your father.

Seeing some of the videos around the late 80's early 90's he didn't look too bad.

And no man worth a bean would accept such money if the said accused had REALLY abused his child. End of in my opinion. You'd want the bastard lynched. The minute Mr Chandler accepted that money was the minute his credibility disappeared and the truth came out.If someone messed with my kid, I'd fight that in court to my dying breath and he could stick his millions up his arse.

I got this link from a friend on facebook - I haven't seen it anywhere else yet, but if its accurate then it may start to appear (even if just as a sideline) in other news sites/papers

A friend of mine on Facebook also posted a link to a rather similar article with the exact same quotes on it a few days after MJ died. For whatever reason I tried to follow the trail of articles and every time ended up on some random blog that provided those quotes unsupported by any evidence. The blogger in question also didn't seem to be responding to any replies to that post.

Pretty much just seemed to be attention grabbing antics.

Given the lack of big splurge over news papers and sites I figured that as even further proof of it's dubious truth.
