Every week we have delays through people walking on the line. It's incredible to think that people do this without any thought to their own safety let alone every one else.

Some people are just utterly dense...or they just don't care at all.

It's mad isn't it. I'm a member of a cycle group, and we spoke to a guy from National Rail about a crossing that is fairly dangerous.

Us: "It takes a person 6 seconds to cross this crossing"
NR: "Well, it takes the train 5 seconds from the point you first see it to get to the crossing"
Us:

I have a few enginners in my family, and they've seen what can happen.

Yeap. You can't ride over it, and the proximty of the fencing and the style of the gates means you end up messing around with the bike with part of it still on the track.

Edit: Well, a bit quicker for us but the point really shouldn't be "only use this crossing if you are speedy". Imagine crossing it with a family, or a trailer, or with a disabled person....

To get to a pub nearby, you can go down a track to a train line crossing in the middle of the field (tis a proper place to cross... not just a random gap in the fence to slip through).

We walked down there the other day and I tell you what, it's not half scary as **** when a train comes past you at full pelt. We were well back waiting for it to go before we crossed but even so. Scared the living daylights out of me! Never really experienced a train going past at full speed. After that you can understand that no one would stand a hope in hell if they got hit. You'd be a goner in milliseconds.

I'm a bit of a nervous person though when it comes to train crossing. I think Picky and Briggy can vouch for this - sometimes when we drive to pick up Briggy for a night out we go on a route where you have to drive over the tracks. I tell everyone to look either way and then whizz over them in a panic ;D

She is probably from a country where that is the norm.
