I took one row of Tattys out & must have around 100 rows left. ;D
Rows meaning width ways along my plot that is.
I love stuff like this. Looks bonza - congrats :)
I've got a single tomato plant in the garden. Its not much, but to be fair, its all I can be trusted with.

Have only recently started digging as previously it's been to cold/hard.
I am aching like **** today from the last few days digging to be honest & I had to much to do this morning & ache to much to be bothered today.
Initially planting thoughts are 3 types of specialised tattys some Jacket spuds & some Courgettes as well as the normal Onions, Carrots, Peas & Beans. I do plan on doing some Strawberrys this year as well.

More digging today & I must say I am flying through it, Second year is So much easier.
My soil is Awesome, rich & easily worked with Untold worms steaming around. I should have taken some pics but at the moment it's just earth. :D
eek I know the feeling I have a lot of digging to do this weekend.
Well finally in and settled, got two herbs on the go and some mushrooms.
Pay day this Friday and house deposit is on it's way to the bank. So will start on the garden this weekend.

I found a mushroom grow box in asda and knew I had to have it
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/4784/71641749.jpg
Now the very overgrown plots and borders I'm going to have to dig out.

Don't think I'll be going up today as I'm having one of my can't be arsed days.
Next time up I'll get some pics of the Plot & my shiney new Stainless steel tools I bought myself tuther week.
Bought myself a Fork/Spade & rake All stainless & worth every penny, Using the fork is loads easier as mud doesn't stick to it at all so it slides in & when you lift it out you are only lifting the fork rather than a ton of wet mud.
Strawbs are looking happier now out on the balcony. Got 3 types: normal fat eating variety, pink flowering and wild. Our lettuces have sprouted now so should be ready in a few weeks. Mint has popped back up, parsley and chives are doing good. Tree onions have also popped back up but I think it's stifling the garlic so I might move it into its own pot. The lavendars and rosemary are taking their time but I think the rosemary needs replacing. Chamomile is about to get rampant and I notice it's made its way into everything else :p. Cherry toms are being slow as usual. Th eonly thing that hasn't done anything yet are the basil seeds in the kitchen. I think I'm just going to have to nurse it along and keep my fingers crossed.
I've got my strawberries in a hanging basket. They look very happy. Tomatoes will also be going in a hanging basket as they did really badly last year in a grow bag. My potato tops are just about to pop through the surface and my salad leaves are growing. Looking forward to not spending a fortune on bought rocket this year :) My rasperry bush that I bought last year has also grown tonnes, so I'm hoping for a bumper crop :D I have runner beans doing very well, which will be ready to go out next week and my peppers are finally coming through.
Herbwise, I cut the hell out of my rosemary & thyme because they were looking a bit ropey and they've sprouted some lovely fresh new shoots. Also have marjoram, chives, parsley, fennel (2 types) & doing very well and have planted dill, oregano & tarragon to add to my collection. The dill is unlikely to be back next year because it's not very hardy, but everything else should be :)
Jonny - cut the rosemary right back to its lowest shoots and it'll sprout again. Takes a while, but it'll happen :) My basil took about 3 weeks to come through. Thought it had failed.

Makes a difference having a nice fork/spade. Mine are my Mum's cast offs. The spade is very small and the fork is all bent. Could do with some new ones really... maybe next year :)
Very impressive stuff!
I've just planted some green squash seeds and carrot seeds, and I've got 9 chilli plants that are progressing nicely. The chive and rosemary plants are going okay, but my courgette got decimated by a slug / snail. Not sure if it's going to make it. :(
Red peppers seedlings are coming up :D Thought I'd killed them
Hows everyone getting on this year.. The weather down south has been very dry and a lot of my seeds have taken an age to come up if at all.
Parsnips are a little thin so I have sown some more... this will be the last chance so if these don't come up I'll be :'(
The beetroot this year has also been poor.. not sure if the seeds were not great (left over from last year), but there is plenty of time left for them so sowing them in succession.. another lot in tonight and the gaps filled.
Last section dug over ready for the brassicas to go in at the weekend.
I'm past 6 weeks now since I planted my pepper and chilli seeds and they are still not showing! Fingers crossed they will appear soon other wise I'll have to get some plants.
The little one is having a go at Pumpkin this year, wants to carve a home grown one this Halloween.
Another first for this year is Cantaloupe melon, seeds have germinated, which is great as they are not easy to germinate. Need to fix up some sort of cold frame to put over them when they go into the ground so that they get the heat required.
What's everyone growing this year?
AcidHell did you get your plots dug and sorted?
Kate how is your Raspberries this year... plenty more I'm sure, I moved mine a they were in a silly place on my plot.. think I may have left it too late though as they are not growing yet... they are Autumns so I might be surprised with some June/July growth. But I have resigned myself to not getting very much out of them this year.
Luckily I now have a great hedge of summer ones in the back garden, which have lots of flowers on so looks like it will be a good crop.
I was very late with planting stuff this year, but am getting there. Runner beans have gone in the ground as have the peas. I also planted carrots which have germinated now. I'll leave them for a few more weeks and then thin them out a bit.
The raspberries are coming on a treat and I have 4 little extra bushes which have self seeded that are growing. Really need to give them to new homes as 1 raspberry bush is quite enough for my garden!! It's just thinking about coming into flower, so I may have a crop by the time we get back off hols.
The strawberries are doing brilliantly too and there are a couple starting to grow already. I have one hanging basket which is the same plants from last year and a hanging basket of new plants which Mum gave me. She has an entire frame of strawberries now in her garden.
I'm growing salad leaves again this year because it was so worth it last year and have rocket, spinach & American land cress coming up.
Forgot about potatoes unfortunately. I loved growing those last year! Got some peppers and tomatoes coming from my Mum because mine didn't germinate.
Not bad for a 5ft square vegetable plot, haha :)
you could still do some potatoes Kate... They wont get as big, but would still be worth while.
Also you could do some Christmas ones, just think Christmas morning having a rummage for some potatoes and then having them for Lunch!
Apple tree is looking promising this year :D

I have been growing some potatoes this year. Checked them last night and they are like mini forests! Massive plants lol. Will have to take a pic tonight. I am tempted to do more next year, but what it pretty easy to look after other than potatoes?
what it pretty easy to look after other than potatoes?
mangetout (sugar snap peas) and french beans are pretty easy get a great crop too!
Not much is growing here unfortunately. We've got the regulars like the herbs and they are doing ok. The big cropping strawberries from last year got wiped out by vine weevil when we brought them in over the winter. The wild strawberries are struggling and they'll make it, but I don't think they'll fruit much. They also got the geraniums which are still looking very weak. We also lost one of the lavenders. Tree onions are doing ok but not great, but I think they don't like the pot they're in
Surprise growth is in one of the big pots which is an onion we put in last year, plus a load of lettuces are popping up round it, unexpectedly! We weren't sure what one of them was so we let it grow and it's now about 6ft tall and covered in yellow flowers which is attracting all the bumble bees up here! There's also the immortal chamomile sprouting, which I expect will be taking over downstairs' balcony like it did last year :D

Awesome, I will have a look at doing those next year :)
Here are the photos of my potatoe plants. There are two here

and this one has flowers :D

They are two different types, the one with the flowers will be white skinned potatoes and the one with purple stems will be purple skinned potatoes.
I was wondering if you had a balcony Jonny.
I saw this last month while browsing the various blogs I frequent:

Wow that is brilliant Lozza, never seen it before, but it is such a clever idea :)
That's a pretty cool way of doing it. We hook hanging baskets and planters round the top, big pots round the bottom and then a line against the flat. If we're clever we use the hanging baskets et al. to shade the weaker plants from the sun, because the balcony is south facing!
I like the pallet idea though. We don't have a wall so I'd make up pockets and staple them in so the plants can grow out both sides. Wicked idea :)

I have had a lovely little package arrive yesterday. Three little bags with some seeds and instructions. :D I think I know who it is, but not 100% sure. Thank you very much.:D Here is a picture of the little packages. 103
I have planted the beans and the beetroot, need to buy more compost before I can do the last one. Pictures to follow with progress :)
