Henry Surtees, the son of 1964 Formula 1 world champion John Surtees, has died following an accident in a Formula 2 race at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

During the second of the weekend's races, the 18-year-old was struck on the head by a wheel and tyre from the car of Jack Clarke, who had spun into the wall exiting Westfield Bend.

RIP :'(

With all the safety measures in modern motor sport and the relatively small number of deaths even compared to 15 years ago I tend to forget that it's still a dangerous sport. Desperately sad to hear of the death of an 18 year old but at least he went out doing something he loved.

My thoughts go out to his friends and family :(

:( What a horrible accident. RIP :(
Like you said, at least he died doing something he loved but such a shame it was at such a young age.

Like you say, there are so few injuries and deaths in motorsports these days, we tend to forget how dangerous it really is :(

And if he had half the talent of his father, we have probably just lost a potential British world champion :(
