View Full Version : Sore and swollen...

Earlier this afternoon me and Mrs Dym were strolling to the shops to top up our champagne and fois gras stocks (ed: steak and beer).

We were happily meandering along when an unidentified insect flew into my hair. Thinking that the hapless bug was one of the myriad flying ants which have been drunkenly flitting around all day, and crashing into things due to their poor piloting skills, I unthinkly brushed it out...

The ensuing jab, combined with the evil snigger uttered by the UFO, identified the creepy crawly.

"Gosh!" (ed: ****) I exclaimed, as the black and yellow assailant buzzed away,

"That smarts somewhat!" (ed: ****ing ******* ****)

Yes, you've guessed it, the little bugger was a wasp, which had succeeded in stinging me right between my third and fourth fingers...

I now have a swollen, aching and sore hand which is being treated with sting cream.

The moral of the story?

Never forget that wasps are ****s!

Holy crap, that's some swelling :(

As least it's not the hand you use to hold your pint.

It's my preferred drinking hand (pint in left, smoke in right ;))...

Luckily, I'm ambidexterous when it comes to pints :D

That's what vinegar is for, as soon as you get stung pour it on the sting and it should neutralise it. Of course, if you are out wandering around, then chances are you won't have access to any.

Is it natures way of telling you to get a haircut? :D

Looks bloody nasty though, there is some uber sting creme that you can get. See if you can get some of this in a local shop:-

My grandad is really allergic to their stings and this stops it.

All the advice has been taken on board.

Names have been written down ;)

Currently munching ibuprofen, however my 'Hellboy' hand is still present...

The makers of nurofen seem to have been watching The Matrix, shame they got the colour wrong :p

Have you had any piriton or similar medication? if not might be worth having some as it should bring swelling down a bit, well hopefully!!

Annoying, isn't it? Kinda has the reverse Jeremy Beadle effect :p

I've been usin an a-h cream... Has stopped much of the itching but not the swelling and stiffness :/

Looks nasty. I have a similar problem with gnat bites :( They swell to ridiculous sizes with me and take ages to heal, even caused some scarring on my leg.

Hope it gets better soon!

Unbelieveable. At 3pm yesterday I was gorge scrambling in the Brecon Beacons on a stag do. As I climbed over the fence to leave for the day I felt a sharp pain on the inside of my right ring finger. I thought I'd nicked it on something on the fence at first because it was actually bleeding, but within minutes I had One Big Hand® so I knew it was a sting - probably a wasp.

After a hayfever tablet the swelling went down, and by the time I was out on the beers again it was right as rain. I highly recommend an antihistamine if you have any. :)

Groovy conincidence though.

Looks like you're mildly allergic - poor bugger. The swelling tends to be more painful than the sting I find. I advise never to get stung by a hornet, cricket ball sized lump ensues - deadly ****ers.

a-h cream isn't that great at reduces swelling as you have noticed, if you have some a-h pills try them as they should bring swelling down a bit. It really does look nasty :(
I can remember being stung as a child and it swelled up huge then after piriton it was only a bit swollen, had to keep taking the piriton for a couple of days, love piriton its tastes of sweet mints. :D

I got stung on the ear by a wasp on the way to school when I was about 14, I looked daft with one big red ear. :(

I actually have a pair of women's hands... They were the ones using my iPhone to take the photo of my man's hands :p

The swelling isn't getting better and may even be getting worse! I'll be off to the doctor/pharmacist in the morning to get it sorted :)

Everything is exacserbated by Mrs Dym being diagnosed as potentially having pig flu (she has very bad asthma so is high risk!), took a trip to the hospital to pick up her tamiflu earlier and she's begun the meds...

So I am down to 50% dexterity and have an invalid to look after!

I know how to have fun :p

Aren't they bees which you have to piss off before you get stung?;)

True, but surely smashing their house and shaking them into a box and then from that box into another box counts as pissing them off?

Well I went down to see the Pharmacist this morning to get some tablets and was referred to the hospital

Was seen by a very nice nurse who has given me a course of antibiotics as my hand is infected in a most impressive manner! Seems that there is a very high population of angry wasps around at the moment as she'd seen lots of people for the same thing...

I've been advised to stay off work for at least two days (was working from home anyway, but am not going to be doing anything now), and longer if there isn't significant improvement...

Of course I may end up having to stay off even longer anyway if I get infected with pig flu by Mrs Dym!

Now if only there was nice weather it'd make having a week off good!

Does seem that you are in the wars at the mo. Get well soon to you and Mrs Dym.

It's not an infection, it's the start of a mutation, radioactive wasps and swine flu
