Why were whales in the competition pool? It just said that they were but gave no reason.
Glad the whale saved her - there's countless other stories of dolphins especially, showing a lot of altruism towards human beings.
It's an amazing story of animals and their intelligence and raw natural feelings but I must admit I was a bit disappointed to hear that the wales live in the pool and would be used to humans and their influences and suchlike. The story isn't quite so amazing as if it had happened in the wild.

Just another reason why I love whales and dolphins, they are such amazing creatures.

i would have guess it's more the competition is being held in the whales pool.

It's clearly worked out for the poor diver in question, but taking that aside it probably would have been better for both humans and animals to seperate them for a few hours?
it said in another article (that one's been edited now btw), that competitions are regularly held in the whale enclosure because it has a viewing window (where the pics were taken from) and the whales are used to human contact.
