Seems I might not be able to return my copy to Game :/
I was told, and have just confirmed, that hey have different barcode numbers so I assume that when Game take it back they'll scan it and it won't match their system. All I can do it try and blag it or sell it on?

Computer Exchange will buy it for £32 if you can't return it to Game, might be easier to do that if you have one handy :)
Shopto are joke when it comes to preorders, problem with being a niche market, once they get popular it fails, I dont bother with preorders online, all hail the supermarket.
Went to Asda at 10:30 and the place was rocking then, 100+ in the queue, when we left atleast 200-300 still waiting to buy it, got the copy at 00:20 so less than 2 hours waiting, at the front of the queue had waited for since 8 pointless really.
Spec ops is really good, been playing with a mate and doing a few levels, gunship one is lulz. SP looks good but feels short, MP is just COD MP same old.
Quite looking forward to trying spec ops. How many players is it for, just 2?
i can't stop playing online! played about 4 or 5 campaign missions and now just can't stay away from MP
I don't know how they've done it, but its actually better than what I thought couldn't get any better!
I might just camp outside Game on Saturday and get a passer by to buy it ;D
What and waste all that gaming time? :p
All sorted. Told my mate exactly what happened and does he want to split the difference and take a copy for £35? He said aye :)
I know our local Sainsburys has sold out so the cheap option isn't there and he's really not the type to go hunting around for a bargain (he still pays monthly for his gold sub) so he'll be more than happy with that.
So both got a copy for £35. Sorted.
Just had a delivery arrive . . . . . . for over the road :( Still no game to play :(

I had my review copy arrive today! :D I initially asked for one for the PS3 as another reviewer for the site wanted to do it, but it appears there's been a mix up and they sent the 360 version instead. Sucks for him, but I get to keep it as long as I review it, so I'll sell my Amazon copy for the same price I paid for it so that'll do me just fine :)
Turns out I probably could have returned my copy to Game for a refund but my mate deserves a cheapy so no worries :)
My copy has finally arrived :)
Thanks to ShopTo for upgrading me to a courier delivery if they hadn't I'd of probably had this yesterday. :(

I forgot how much fun the multiplayer on this can be. My first two games didn't go so well, ending up with a k:d ratio of 2:7 and 2:10 in those games. The next two were much better with a ratio of 16:7 and 9:5 (or close enough anyway). I can definitely see me sinking absolutely loads of time into this in the coming months. :)

It is me or is the single player campaign bloody hard, admitedly I started on Hardened because I thought it would be a challenge but I'm getting wiped out all the time! It might come from playing Borderlands for hours and being used to rushing into combat but even if I tuck myself away and snipe I'm getting swamped in the first South American mission. I'll drop down to Regular tonight and see if that helps.
I felt the early Airport mission was a bit unnessesary to be honest, I know you can skip it and I know there are a lot of warnings but it doesn't really add anything to the game, athough it does make me question my morals a bit, I found myself hanging back and only picking of the dying or actual threats, I couldn't bring myself to indescriminately pull the trigger :o

The SP is hard MB. I'm currently playing through on hardened and the Rio level is difficult. One thing I will say is when you drop down off the platform I ended up taking the left route because I just couldn't manage the right too many people high up shooting me.
Davey_Pitch
12-11-2009, 10:31
I got stuck on the exact same level on Hardened difficulty, got bored of dying so went into the MP instead. May either try a different route like Leo suggests or just drop down in difficulty and go back through it at a later date.
leowyatt
12-11-2009, 10:56
Don't drop it down just take the route on the left as it's easier because I got sick of dying. If you do decide to go right you have to keep moving otherwise if you duck behind cover it'll just give the enemy time to take the high ground
Personally found this to be the easiest of them all on Veteran difficulty.
the SP is a bit tough, but thats a good thing.
I've gone for Hardened first time round like i did with the last one and so far there have been a few tricky bits. first being at the end of the level on the rig, I think that bits taken me the most attempts so far!
Ha I played through on Regular as I'm just too pants for hardened yet :p

Been off work the last couple of days, loaded with the cold. The missus bought me MW2 yesterday while at Tesco. I only played the first 3 levels of SP but it's been good so far. Also tried Spec Ops which seems excellent and today, i've been playing MP all day. Mainly just Free For All mode. Rather enjoying it, can't believe i never played the first MW online. EVER! :o :D
Played and finished the SP storyline already, did it on regular though :) Will do it again on Veteran at some point for all the achievements. Just getting the hang of the MP maps atm :)

Spec Ops is awesome. Been playing with jingo tonight and totally lost track of the time ;D
tried spec ops on my own but not done much, really just want to get into it with a mate but they're all busy having lives. damn them.

Played some MP last night and got up to myself up to Level 10, its all coming back to me, I still suck but I went from one kill and 17 deaths to a roughly 1:1 ratio between to the two, even got a couple of streeks and got to guide in missiles \o/, haven't got to helo support yet but soon and if I get to play with some people who actually want to co-op rather than bounce around like pinballs I might do some real damage.
Tonight I have some free time so if anyone wants a game then let me know, I want to try out the throwing knife!

Completed the SP last night.
Really rather underwhelmed by it. Didn't particularly like the first third. Second third was great but then the end was very disappointing imo. Story was absolutely ridiculous too ;D
Think it suffered too much from desperately wanting to have a huge explosion every five minutes.
Single player wise: one of the weakest of the series imo (although did enjoy it more than CoD3!).
Looking forward to trying out multiplayer and spec ops though, but I am quite glad I didn't pay money for it as I'm not much of a multiplayer gamer anyway!

Charlie Brooker is a demigod of article writing. :D
If you get the chance have a look at the leaderboards on xbox. Select the accuracy one then change filter to get global ranks. Go to top of list. When I looked earlier there was a guy on there at lvl 27 with 100% accuracy 758 shots all hits. Even if he's sniping that's still very good going.
Oh and if you look on global rank for score there was someone with 4 days and 7 hours play time already

I think you guys are being way over critical; it's a goddamn Call of Duty game. I want big set pieces, I want it to be OTT, I want a ridiculous story  It's a popcorn action movie not fine french art.

Gimme a shout one night and we can go through some of the missions if you want :)
It's great fun but quite difficult to solo on the hardened/veteran levels... Desmo & I have racked up a few stars here and there, with a couple of hardened stars and a veteran on the snowmobile :D
We were quick to find out that charging in guns blazing is not the best way forward on most of these though... nor is our now classic tactic of "I'm going to knife the slag" :p

:D
Or I've got a different opinion to you? :p
I'm not saying it's bad, I just don't think it's as amazing as other people think it is :)
That's fair enough - I think a game with such huge anticipation is always going to be a 'disapointment' to some.
Also I think that people like Haly (who have much more extensive gaming experience) will have experienced most of what the gaming world has to offer, and so might not appreciate the 'upgraded experience' as much as me- someone who plays alot less and sees the updates and upgrades in large chunks rather than a gradient.
Abooie's played a hell of a lot of games too ;) And I wasn't anticipating MW2 much, went into it quite neutral really.
I just don't think it's really as great as all the reviews suggest it is. It's certainly enjoyable but to me it's not a game that anyone will remember for years to come, unlike the previous Modern Warfare game.
That's regarding the single player. I haven't played the multiplayer much yet and I wouldn't consider myself a good judge of it anyhow as I'm not a big multiplayer gamer. Much prefer games with strong single player narratives, something that MW2 lacks imo.
Sure it might all be about the MP these days but previous CoD games have managed to juggle a good, albeit short, storyline and a good multiplayer, so it's not much to expect the same of this one either.
Still don't have this game, I have no idea where the local Sainsbury's is as the store locator on the site is wrong and I very much doubt they'll have any copies in now. Was too late for the deal at Morrisons, as always, and I refuse to pay over £40 for this game. Gonna have to pray I get lucky and find it somewhere nice and cheap now :(
I'll keep my eyes peeled for you Wossi - if you promise to keep this thread strictly updated if you buy it, I'll pick you up a cheap copy if I see one and post it on. :)
Can't guarantee anything of course, but I'll keep an eye out as we're often in both morrisons and sainsbury :)
Thanks dude, since the cheapest I've found so far is Sainsbury,s as Morrisons have put the price up, I doubt I'll be buying it myself soon.
Just spent two hours playing spec ops at a mates and some of the SP campaign.
First thing - I wasn't aware STRAWBERRY JAM TO THE FACE was such a widely used warfare tactic but perhaps it should be as it's pretty effective at completely blinding you. I've never understood the blood effects on screen like that, though having never personally been shot I can't say for sure whether it does indeed cause your eyes to just fill with blood/jam. That was bordering on game ruining for me, so so so annoying.
Spec Ops was fun enough, ran through a few missions on Vet, got a decent number of kills. Fun enough, though having to do it split screen is a bit fail, it's already bad enough the 360 renders at barely above SD resolution so having only half of that makes spotting hidden enemies pretty damn hard.
The main campaign was ok though it kinda felt like 'set piece > run > shoot > run > set piece > run > shoot ....' and so on, it felt almost like the game was there just to link up the set pieces, rather than the set pieces were there to enhance the game.
Tried MP but it kept just saying 'Looking for Good Game... 0/50' until eventually it said 1/50 on one attempt but still never actually joined a game, so I gave up on that and went back to SS Spec Op.
Overall impression after 2 hours with the game - £10 purchase, nothing more. It's ok, I really don't see the hype though.

I've just completed the SP campaign and all was well until a certain mission and the whole game turned on it's head story wise, to the point it actually ******* me off!
I was buying in to the whole over the top storyline stuff. Then one level changed that and i was like "you've got to be ******* kidding me, right?...........right?!"

I know people moan about the length of the single player, but I actually don't think it's that short. It's probably because I'm playing on Hardened and dying a lot as I go, but I'm about 5 hours into it and I'm just near the end of Act 2. If I was going through it on Normal I'm sure I would have been close to finishing it by now, but by doing it on a more challenging level it's making it last longer for me.
The MP more than makes up for any problems with the SP though, it's definitely as awesome as COD4 was.
and now there's blood on the wall :(
I think the Spec Ops section adds a lot to the game :) I'm finding it difficult to compare to COD4 at the moment as I wasn't on the COD4 release bandwagon etc.
I prefer MW2 at the moment but I'm still very new to both games :)

Leo a good way for a good Pit time is to ensure you only use the minimum amount of bullets (I believe there is an occassion where you can shoot two enemies with a single bullet also) then having a 100%, or indeed above 100% accuracy score bonus, knocks seconds off your time at the end :)
Over on the those blue forums someone has given a guide to how they hit 29 seconds or something equally impressive/daft however you want to look at it! :p
I've ran through it a couple of times, got 2 stars and thought 'that'll do me! Onward!' ;D

That knife throw is INSANE, I can hit anyone from 6 INCHES with the knife let alone 60 yards!
Howcome that guy is getting +500 for a kill?

The original video of that knife kill said he thought he had a grenade equipped when he made the throw, I bet he was glad afterwards that it was actually a knife! :p
How are people doing with the pit? My best time so far is 35.4 seconds. I'm just not aiming quickly enough so will up the sensitivity to see if that helps.
EDIT: Jesus Desmo, that man needs help!
I just got 29.1 seconds.
My 3 tips are
1) choose the pistol in the weapon box closest to the gate.
2) 1 shot each enemy and try and move so that occasically 1 shot will hit 2 of them.
3) Don't stop moving forward but don't miss any out.
Also... with that pistol you should only need to reload once. Do it while you climb the stairs.
I also just finished the campaign on Veteran and for the most part it was the easiest and most enjoyable COD Vet experience so far; not saying it was the best COD but the best one on Veteran. I finished in 9 hours and throughly enjoyed the whole experience; in fact I'm quite buzzy now :D

Isn't that the M9? I've been trying to use that and generally re-load when jumping off the roof.
Which was your favourite level?
I found I was sometimes 1 shot short on the room before the jump and it I was forced to reload it was game over so I got into the habbit of realoading earlier.
It's really hard to pick a standout level though I really enjoyed 'Takedown' and 'Just Like Old Times'. You?
The toughest bit by far on Veteran was the final assault on the oil rig where all the special ops throw smoke and everything at you. Nasty, nasty stuff with constant flanking.
I'm really looking forward to an easy run now, getting all the intel and picking up loose achievements. Then we move onto Special Ops :)
That knife throw is INSANE, I can hit anyone from 6 INCHES with the knife let alone 60 yards!

Talking about WoW like monthly fee's and CoD online!?
:/
That had been kicking around as a rumour for a while before release (one of the strongest suggested reasons as to the creation of IWNet in the first place, so as to provide a platform for this on PC as well as Live and PSN).
There were some screenshots of a 'leak' back in June/July (I think it was) as well of a survey asking what people would want to pay for in a future 'pay to play' CoD title.

I'm not 6 years old, I don't need rewarding every time I do something correctly.
Had an amusing moment when I got dumped into a game with a load of Russians though and the entire opposite team broke out riot shields and ran down a hill at me.

Tip... don't fight or get spotted.
Crouch next to the jeep and let McTavish snipe the guy ahead. Slowly move round the jeep and face the 2nd guy who's just the other side of it and again he'll be sniped.
Head left along the fance and stop on the right close to the crates and Mctavish will snipe the guy directly ahead then go prone and slowly strafe left to face the last guy who's down the gap next to where that last guy was sniped.
Now head along the fence and towards the crates until you're told to hold still while a patrol vehicle moves past. Once it's past you've a clear run to plant the explosives.

my goodness MP is intensive!
Had a few more games on Live this evening at my mates, stuck the headset on this time.
Every 3rd or 4th person seems to be able to talk normally, everyone else sounds like they're dying of swine flu, falling out a plane and having a heart attack all at once. Very confusing.
Games were fun though, managed to finally start getting a positive K/D ratio again, been a while since i've done that on a console :p
Managed to get 4 kills in one shot with the grenade attachment on one of the assault rifles, was quite amused by that.
On the whole i'm finding the maps a bit big for 6v6 though, if there isn't a UAV up then it often seems everyone is chasing each other round in a circle looking for the other team. I'm enjoying Terminal a fair bit though along with a snowy one I can't remember the name of.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do......until I saw one guy standing in the distance with his hands on his head. Silly boy stood out like a sore thumb so I shot him in the head ;D
Then I just randomly took pot shots if I felt like it and picked off some of the injured. Also lobbed a couple of grenades in for good measure.

I was taking out those that were helping the injured people. I also slashed somebody's neck with a knife when they were trying to hide :o

I didn't see it as a moral dilemma, I just saw it as an excuse to kill people without having to worry about them shooting back at me :D
without expecting it i did experience a bit of a moral dilemma... i don't consider myself the 'moral dilemma' type, but found myself simply 'putting people out of their misery' as you might call it... :(
I thought there might be some kind of achievement for either killing everyone or nobody at all...
Booo - people in COD aren't like chickens in COD ;)
Veteran done tonight, significantly easier than COD:4 was, but then I guess there's special ops to deal with.
Want to 1K this like I did 4, so if anyone is up for 3*ing some Spec Ops missions shout up, want to take advantage of the co-op :)
I came in to post something for Mr Leo but that last sentence scared me off.

With the constant flanking I found that the most frustrating part of the campaign and it's easy to get swamped.
One way I did try it successfully was after the smoke is dropped run straight back down the stairs and lie prone targeting the top of them. You'll shoot 20 odd soldiers until it eventually goes quiet as they're are no respawns. Then move quick, up, right, be careful and take out any static guys you need to then leg it to the door and you'll get a check point.

Sniper Fi
Evasion

Bravo:
Overwatch
Delta:
Wardriving
Wreckage
Terminal
I think that's all we did.

I absolutely love Sniper Fi, I had so much fun doing that on Veteran. I can imagine it being pretty easy in co-op as it only took me two attempts on my own on Veteran.
We did Big Brother too :) Little fiddly that one, but once we got out of the street we went all the way through, though not without hairy moments :D

oh yeah forgot that one too :o
We up for finishing the rest next week Daz?
Had no problem with the airport level, just treated them like any other targets and anything in range that wasn't already being shot at got filled with lead.
I can obviously understand why it's not pleasant viewing, it's civilians being murdered rather than KIA like all your other targets are. However, I saw it no more controversial than film scenes where mass-murder occurs, the only difference is that you take on the role yourself, rather than watching it in third-person. The story and script is set in stone, whether you kill nobody or kill loads, the Makarov-Allen story arc unfolds the same way, so it's very much like a film in that regard you're just part of the story rather than purely watching it.
Make it viewer discretion sure, but the people calling for it to be banned are idiots.

Overwatch is at night, in the AC-130 from COD:4 :) We did that first time I think :o Lucky at the end though, only a couple of seconds left as Leo said, so just legged the last bit. Many people no doubt will be anyway, but make sure you play MW2 online this weekend if you're a 360 owner :)
From: http://www.game.co.uk/gameforgood/?cm_mmc=BMM-G-_-Game%20for%20Good-_-Game%20for%20Good-_-game%20for%20good
Be a part of something special on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December! Take part in GAME For Good and log on to Xbox Live to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as we attempt to set a new world record for the number of players on Xbox Live - AND help a very worthy cause at the same time.
The more you play, the more we pay!
The more UK-based users playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox Live during GAME For Good weekend, the more money Activision will be donating money to the War Child Charity, up to a quarter of a million pounds - meaning you can literally game for good!
How to take part
All you have to do to take part in GAME For Good is insert your Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game disc into your system, log in to your Xbox Live Gold Account and join an online game.
Although ignore the bit at the end of the site (I haven't cut and pasted it) about Gold being free this weekend, as it's not according to AceyBongos.
hurrah \o/
oh, and i'm back online btw, just paid my £4.99 for a months Gold. The Show 123.
and on more of an MW2 related matter... last night was nuts. Started Spec-Ops with my brother and we lost hours of our lives to that AC-130 mission! we were up till about 5.30 trying to do that on Vet!! Now both working through the early levels of MP on our respective GTs.
(it annoys me I have a level 50 something account on my PS3, and now i've got to start again... :/ )

That was awesome fun! Leo and I have just been working through some of the Spec Ops missions together on Vet. Some of them were quite easy for two people, but Overwatch (the one in the AC-130) was proving to be a pain. After several attempts, I found myself on the ground right near the final building when enemies came pouring out. Leo fired down a few 40mm shots, I picked a couple off and ran for my life - we finished the mission with 0.6 seconds to go! Unbelievable stuff, we couldn't cut it that close again if we tried, though we did finish Bomb Squad with only 5.5 seconds left!
Great stuff

Well what do you expect? It's a game with guns 'n' stuff.
yay - just finished the campaign on my xbox. on vet. \o/
some annoying bits at the end with checkpoints right at points where you keep getting killed, but i got through it again :D
I'm currently playing it through on Hardened (started on Vet but found myself dying without even knowing what was going on! :p) and enjoying it as much as my release day play through on regular.
Also nabbed Borderlands for £23 so enjoying that - looking forward to co-oping it with a chum also :)
I'm diving on mulitplayer mw2 a fair bit also - I like how I can pop on for a game or two and then leave it whilst still feeling entertained :D 'clan' evenings are a great laugh too chaps :D
I'm playing the multiplayer quite a lot as well. Or at least, a lot more than I played COD4 online!
Kinda stalled level wise around 20, but then changed the primary weapon on my main class (Scar -> Tar) and went up to 24 very quickly. Just changed to the P90 and seem to be maintaining momentum :)
Also have a useful sniper class (even if I'm not a useful sniper myself!). Marathon/Cold Blooded/Tactical Insertion/Silencer = very annoying to the other team :D Had a particularly successful CTF game where I was constantly picking off flag carriers.
Want to go back to spec ops though :) had a go on Breach and Clear on vet last night, bloody hard.
I have a week off work this week, will be playing a lot of Spec Ops I think!
Just been playing some HQ and there was an annoying kid who wouldn't shut up about campers on the other team. After getting a verbal bashing from a couple of others I joined in as he was annoying the snot out of me. He then told me to shut up as he is a higher level than me so I must be crap. I told I had a life outside of playing MW2 and told him to grow up.
If I could have reached through the tv I would have throttled him
Mute button is your friend :)
Turned the xbox on earlier and it appears he has sent me a voice message. But with him sounding like a 6 year old girl, I can understand the words "invite" and "better join" Stupid kid.
Oh Wossi no!!! ;D You've been provoked into a flame war! ;D
I often find myself muting many a player as soon as they indicate traits of ahh-sol-ism; saves any potentials of getting wound up.
I find the best way to extract revenge is to undertake a throwing knife kill on them - the ULTIMATE HUMILIATION! :p

Leo and I managed to do that on Vet after about 20 attempts, only took us around 35 seconds when we did it though. Breach through the wall, clear first section. Throw staggered flashbangs into the second section to stagger the riot shield guys, switch to noob tube to clear the way, sprint for the hole. Worked well in the end :)
I think I may fare better with the slower approach - actually clearing the rooms. Not attempting it on my own though :D

I hesitate to say this but after 3 days game time of MW2 I think I'm getting a bit better.
I have gone over to sniper rifle (last one you unlock) and shotgun (graduated from the ranger to the tactical shotgun, the second to last one).
I play a lot of Headquaters Pro, not only do you spend very little time on the bench (only when you have capped the HQ and die) but it brings in the points and you can start to develop map tactics as the HQ locations are changing but rotate through set points.
I'm still not good, only competent and I need to learn how to position myself better so I'm hidden, using the sniper gives you a Gillie suit which is good on maps with plenty of space but not that great on urban levels even when you unlock the urban gillie, (the snow one is really good!)
I've stopped using the Bling perk now I've maxed it out for rewards and I don't really miss it now, the shotgun I have has good sights and get me fired from the hip. I always try to swap to the shotgun the moment I enter a building which I think is a good tip. I'm looking foward to getting the last shot gun, it works will Akimbo.
Anyone playing tonight?
MB
Unsure yet, I feel a pub trip coming on :)
Been playing CTF for a few days, and enjoyed it. Had an awesome HQ game last night though - got ~40 kills (as did many others), team was working well together, good spread of killstreak rewards between us. Other team were working just as well though - we ran out of time in the end, finished 175 - 175 :D Nobody could capture the last HQ, was very frantic. Got loads of exp for that.
Think I'm going to go back to the SCAR - I'm ~30 kills off 10000 exp and whatever the last attachment is. Loving the P90, really should change for exp's sake, but I'm getting on really well with it and dont want to ;D

Last attachment is Extended Mags and you need about 80 penetration kills, thats a tall order! One before that is FMJ I think.

Last attachment for kill unlocks I mean, and yeah, it's FMJ, and extended mags after however many kills with that :)
Also tried a game of hardcore team deathmatch. Very different game that, was very stealthy and jumpy. Lots of snipers.

We should all have a crack at hardcore some time. I remember from playing COD4 that your classes change a lot and a fair few perks become redundant :)
Hardcore is...well.....pretty hardcore. Played it a couple of times and get utterly wasted :D
I quite like the idea that friendly fire is reflected back upon the plonker shooter :)

Had a couple of awesome games of MP tonight. Finished a match on Wasteland with a score of 15-0, spent the whole game sniping from various positions, moving around a bit so they couldn't pin point me. Then had a great match on Scrapyard, with a score of 25-5 and a kill streak of 19! Was absolutely gutted I didn't get to 20 kills, as 19 was my biggest kill streak on CoD4 as well, and I was hoping to get 20 or more. Still, more than happy with the result and over the past couple of weeks have taken my K:D ratio from 0.76 up to 0.90, which I can hopefully get to 1:1 or better in the future :)

Had a few games today but got pi**ed off with all the gits running around with the twin 1887 shotguns. Had a least 2 in every single game no matter that I switched lobbies several times :(
I think that setup may put me off playing. :(
I had a really bad weekend of gaming. Just couldn't seem to hit a thing and sure it was due to lag. I know it's an easy excuse but I'm not THAT bad. Some games I was getting 2 kills to 19 deaths and it was just pointless. Got to the stage of just turning it off.
Finished off with a few goes through Spec-Ops with Daz (he's such a SO whore). Took a few goes on one mission but we didn't finish it. Swapped on to another one and picked up the three stars :D
He's quite good at it though that Daz - although to be a good partner to me one has to be continuously aware of my position and be able to hold down X ;D
A whore I may be but I only have 6 ops left :D grab me if you see me!
Had a wicked TD game earlier. Got an emergency air drop and care package together. Called them all in, got 2 harrier strikes, one precision strike, an attack chopper and a predator missile ;D
I love the attack choppers- great fun! :D
I like shooting them down :)

Sounds like one of the glitched games. People set up a private match, change a load of settings and then somehow make it a public match for mega XP earnage. You ended up joining it.
