Found out this morning about Orange changing their T&C's so spoke to my sister who has a contract phone with Orange as her phone is useless. She was quite happy to say the least as it means she can upgrade. Now, I think I've managed to convince her to get a deal where she gets a free PS3 :D but don't know where to start looking, she'd prefer to go to O2 now and not spend more than £30 a month on the actual contract. Plus she'd like the phone to be lightweight and half decent.

Anyone got any suggestions? She's not fussed that it will most probably be a 24 month contract either.

Buymobilephones.net was where Sam and I both got our phones last year. She got a free Xbox 360 elite and I got a free Wii.
(only did it that way round as it worked out cheaper :) )
Had no problems with getting hold of the free gifts.

I got my phone and iPod Touch through Buymobilephones, had absolutely no problems myself and it's even easier now as they simply send the free gift with the phone instead of you having to send off a voucher for it.

Alternatively, go cashback and use the money to buy a PS3.

For example, you can get a Nokia 6500 on a 24-month O2 contract at £25 per month with £350 cashback, claimed in five lots of £70. That works out at a total of £250 over the course of two years. That contract comes with 600 mins and unlimited texts too.

Compared to a £30 per month contract, that's a saving of £470 quid. Even if the £30 contract came with a free PS3, you'd still be far better off taking the £470 saving a buying your own console.

That actually sounds quite interesting, could do with the money more than a PS3.

Vertigo's talking sense, contracts that come with consoles aren't as good as they seem, they either end up proving as or more expensive than their standard contracts. Cashback contracts however rely on you to send off relevant documents within a small timeframe in order to get the cashback; many people forget so they end up reaping the benefits. Because of this they do work out cheaper assuming you actually remember to send off the documents when you're supposed to.

With the cashback ones I'd suggest setting an alarm on your phone as soon as you get it for the days that are relevant :) And keeping every bill so that you get into the habit of keeping them, no chance of accidentally throwing the useful one out then ;)

They definitely work out better in the long run than the free console ones though.

The link is here if you're interested, loads more cashback deals on there to peruse:

Haly & Streeteh are quite right - cashback deals rely on you being very diligent about submitting the correct paperwork inside the specified time window but, providing you can do this, they are very attractive. I'm currently paying £3.33 a month after cashback on an 18-month O2 400m/500txt contract.

OneStopPhoneShop (or e2Save as they're also known) have been doing these deals for ages and, IMHO, are reputable. I've not really had any problems claiming from them apart from one issue with my current contract where they changed the rules on claims but sent me the old terms so I ended up sending in the wrong bill and they rejected the claim. Once I explained that I'd adhered to the terms I'd been sent (the old ones) they honoured the claim anyway which I thought was fair.

Looks like we are going through mobiles.co.uk and getting the £230 cashback deal and going through quidco for a further £40. This way we'll have £230 in a few days so can get a washing machine and tumble dryer :D the £40 from quidco is an added bonus.

Found out this morning about Orange changing their T&C's
Am I glad I've just seen this. Been waiting to cancel with Orange for a while now so will get on to them and get this done :D

Is there any timescale with the cancellation of orange? I've been with them for ~18 months are would greatly prefer a change of contract with less going out each month- I use no where near the minutes I have etc.

Plus I also need a new phone and could use some goodies the same as the next person.

If you've been with them that long you're probably out of contract anyway (unless you got a 24-month deal). Either way, you have 30 days from the time you were notified of the T&C change (probably by text), and most contracts (probably all 'Animal' contracts) taken out up to May this year are affected and thus eligible.

Hmmmm I don't recall receiving a text - might of deleted it in a sleepy state!

I'm sure it is up for renewal in the next month or two; my original K850i is on it's last legs and I certainly want to lower the monthly outgoings.

I'm tempted to go onto Pay as you Go, but I know it will always probably reach around the £15/20 anyway so might as well get a new phone & hopefully some goodies!

What's the process for transferring your number? I've had the same one for ~6 years and to have to change that will be most hassling.

Even more interesting is the news of a possible, significant price drop on the existing 80GB model.
