Been waiting for a time to get out of your Orange contract? I have, and thanks to Wossi's thread I noticed they'd changed their T&C's meaning you can now cancel your contract.

You should receive a text where they "claim" you are eligible. But from what I've read, EVERYONE is eligible whether or not you receive this text.

I tried to phone to cancel this morning but was informed I hadn't received my text yet but I should have one next week. If I don't get one by then, I'll be on the phone pushing harder to cancel. I'd do it today but I just don't have the time to fight.

Good link here...

Cheers Desmo, will move over to O2 simplicity and wait for the Pre :)

I've had a brief read but not sure if I will be effected. Is it for all Orange contracts, ones signed recently or old ones? I signed up for another 18 months on 6th March and was thinking of buying my way out of it as I hate the Nokia 8800 I've got and will quite likely need a proper smart phone in a couple of months.

From what i've read, I think you'd be able to cancel - you may have to give the phone back though, with it being so soon.

The impression I got from that is that anyone can cancel and it doesn't matter if it's a new contract, they can't claim the phone back.

You’re told you can cancel, but you have to return your handset

Again, utter bollocks:

14.1 your Device is not a part of your Contract
Your Device and Accessories are acquired by you outside the terms of your Contract.

It’s as simple as that, really.

Action to take

If you are told this, read clause 14.1 to the operator.

What happens if you get an orange contract now before they change there T&C's? Or will new customers be given the new stuff to sign? Hoping i can make a quick phone purchase ;D?

Any contract since June has the new terms. Ergo you can't pull a fast one. :p

Yeah kinda expected that, bummer, Debbie can cancel though think she took a contract out at the end of may! For 2 years, with a **** phone at best, so she deserves to be able to cancel she won't really be gaining at all... Means i can make her use her iPhone now though. Off topic, but if she buys a rolling monthly o2 sim that'll work in any iPhone right? What do you have to do to reregister or reactivate iPhones, since she "found" hers and the guy hasn't got in touch to have it back...

Phoned again and still no joy. Was told everyone should have their text by the 14th. I can't be bothered to argue it out as I don't have the time so I'll wait another week and should be good to go.

It was taking some people up to 4 calls depends on what customer services person they got through to it seems, so maybe worth another go (especially if its free!).

Awesome news, Lynnie and I are waiting to hop to O2 so this is just the news we needed :)

Looks like Orange & t-Mobile are formally getting the iPhone 3G but not the 3Gs. Unless you are desperate it could be worth holding off as it will give you the option of a cheaper 3G which should force O2 to drop the price slightly of the 3Gs or provide more competitive contracts.

Already got my iPhone and O2 PAYG SIM :)

Using my Orange SIM in it until I can dump them.....which is sooner than I thought :D

15.1 If you do not give notice within one month of our notifying you of any change(s), you will be taken to have accepted the change(s).

So probably need to get it done asap as every seems to be getting notified at different times.

I actually got the text in the pub last friday but as my contract ran out 6th I didn't see the point :p I'm probably going to be staying with orange for another term anyway.

Came through last night. Phoned thus morning and PAC is in the post :)

Make sure you ask for your PAC otherwise the account is cancelled and you just lose your number.

Apparently this is due to O2 not fulfilling the obligations they agreed with Apple in order to maintain an exclusivity contract.

I'd heard the same. One (or maybe both) of the operators think the iPhone won't be a major player on their network.

Still no text. Rumour mill says that we all should have them by the 12th.

Fingers crossed!

Oooh, I might take to opportunity to cancel my contract. I re-newed my 12 month contract last June and they put me on an 18 month one without telling me. I didn't realise until I rang them up this June and they said "oh you can't have a new phone until December". What's annoying is that I broke my phone a couple of months after I had it by leaving it on the draining board and then covering it with water :( Currently stuck with a K800i that works when it feels like it.

Might have a look around and see what else is on offer. Not arsed about a posh phone. I use the internet too much as it is and it's against my religion to pay for a phone anyway.

Same here really regards to the phone - I prefer if it has a camera that can take a few decent snaps, but apart from that I use it for sms, phone calls and the radio! ;D

An Iphone would be wasted on me :) Fortunately I believe I am now approaching the end of my contract and as orange arent willing to let me 'downsize' my package to a smaller monthly outgoings, I think I might be going to a new contract.

Must get that PAC (or whatever it's called) code.

Port Authorisation Code - PAC :)

As for Orange, they text me this morning saying I can change my plan on their bestplan deal ;D

still no text :(

The text is b******s anyway. If you've been on an Animal contract since May the changes apply to you. Period. They can't hold you to ransom over a text for one simple reason - delivery of text messages is not guaranteed.

We've been on a contract since april. So just phone up anyway?

Mark

Yes. Have the website Desmo linked in the OP to hand and it may take a few attempts.

Obviously it's far, far easier with the text though. That's clear.

Mark
11-08-2009, 16:19
I won't deny that, but it's still not a reason to deny their own contract terms.

Kitten
11-08-2009, 16:20
no, we know this, however I haven't really got time to make one call, let alone 5, so waiting for the text until the last day they've said texts will come out (i.e. Friday) doesn't seem like much of a hardship when compared to going through hoops. If it doesn't come by Friday then I'll have to do it anyway, however waiting might just save me some time and hassle.

Desmo
11-08-2009, 18:42
That's what I did Kitten. Didn't have time to sit around at work making umpteen phone calls so decided it was easier to just wait for the text and get it done easier and quicker.

My PAC arrived today. Phoned O2 and my transfer should happen on Thursday so all sorted :D

Times have clearly changed.
I had no problems at all during my time with Orange. 6 years, and the only reasons I could fault them were they were more expensive than their rivals and their selection of handsets was small (although they say this is because their quality control system is more in depth than their rivals so fewer handsets pass).

I've been all T mobile for about 3 years now and no complaints whatsoever.

Desmo

My only problem with Orange has been their signal. It's the only reason I want to leave and the only reason I'll probably never go back.

Kitten

^^ this. After 18 months of 'no service' in my house, I've escaped. Hopefully Leo can do the same!

Desmo
12-08-2009, 09:25
I get perfect signal in my house....it's just when I walk 200 yards in to the town centre it goes to pot. And centre parcs, cottages, blah, blah, blah. Everywhere I've not had a signal, Sinead has had one with O2.

Jhadur
12-08-2009, 14:07
On the flip side of this I can't get a signal on O2 at my mums house but get full signal on orange.

UPDATE: Bitterwallet readers force Orange to scrap new call charges (http://www.bitterwallet.com/bitterwallet-readers-force-orange-to-scrap-new-call-charges/16612)

In the last hour, we’ve received information from two individual sources that Orange has decided not to push through the proposed changes to its Terms of Service. If this is the case, then the new charges due to begin in September will not be introduced, and customers will no longer have grounds (as Orange’s current terms and conditions suggest) to cancel their contracts.

We’re letting you know because this information has been passed on from two different sources, although it is yet to be confirmed by Orange themselves; we’ll now attempt to verify this with their press office. In the meantime, if you have been told similar by an Orange representative in the past hour or can provide a source of official information, please get in touch at bitterwallet@gmail.com.

I'll be very very annoyed if that's the case, I'm still in the US and can't call them to cancel until the 18th. I'm still going to cancel, it's just whether I have to pay for the remaining months of my contract or not.

Davey_Pitch
13-08-2009, 01:10
Yup, it's definitely true, anyone who hasn't cancelled their Orange contracts now no longer will be able to do so for free. Bollocks.

No no I meant my one, not yours.
Mine works when it feels like it, so I've had to resort to borrowing one from a friend. Fandabbydoozie!!

Oh well, looks like I'll have to put up with it until December. I have had no issues whatsoever with Orange since I've been with them (around 5 yrs). I swapped from O2 because the coverage where I live was so bad.

Is this correct? After having cancelled my contract with Orange, I've since been charged £34.27. I've not had a bill through the post and my normal monthly charge was only £30. Have I been charged for the cancellation period of 30 days?

Burble
19-08-2009, 09:30
It does look like it. Vodafone did the same thing to me but apologised for an 'administrative error' when I called to query it.

Desmo
19-08-2009, 09:33
So it's worth giving them a buzz to get it back? Or at least get an explanation. Normally you pay a contract in advance don't you? So I would have already paid the cancellation period last month.

Burble
19-08-2009, 09:36
Yep, definitely worth giving them a call.

Mark
19-08-2009, 10:12
If you were near the end of the billing month when you cancelled, that would do it.

Desmo
19-08-2009, 10:26
Well I cancelled on the 8th and I remember my contract was going to end on 24th January so I guess my billing date was the 24th?

leowyatt
19-08-2009, 11:05
You have, you need to cancel just before your billing date. They tried to sting me for a port charge, but got that back.
