Every time I wath a Nicholas cage film, i always left feeling like I want to learn some history or geography! :s don't ask!

So, what are some of your favourites?
I've seen Planet Earth and March of the Penguins and loved them both!

It's not (old) history or geography, but I thought 102 Minutes That Changed America was a fantastic, powerful programme. It's a look at the September 11 attacks in New York entirely from home video cameras. Well worth a look if you can find it somewhere.

Watch the doc that Clarkson made about the first commando raid on the docks at St.Nazaire in WW2, also known as Operation Chariot. The usual irritating presenting style, over indulgent to the last, but even he cannot contain his admiration for the men that were there.

Louis Theroux has done some good ones, and also some rubbish ones. It's very POV, and it's up to you to make your own perception of what you're seeing. It's pretty much all interviews from people involved rather than a broad factual analysis. Basically Louis goes straight to the horses mouth every time.

Horizon have done some fantastic documentaries such as the recent ones on particle physics and the elusive higgs boson and the big bang/unified theory.

If you like a sprinkle of humour, then Richard Hammond's recent series of Engineering Connections goes over some interesting topics but in a light way, so you don't need to watch it like a hawk to understand it.

He manages to retain some of the Monty Python esque humour in a very very subtle way whilst opening your eyes to the real people living off the beaten track in some of these places. I love his stuff
