Righty ho ho! Drinking Bacardi Berry and Pepsi Max but stumbled upon a stupid thing that is bugging me now.
If I pour pepsi max straight into the glass it froths up like crazy and I spill it everywhere. However when I put the rum in first the fizzzzz dies down instantly and I have a hard time making a mess?
Whats going on? :(
It's like the Mentos and coke thing, I think coke/pepsi has something in it that holds bubbles together for longer (like anti-antifoam). Putting the Bacardi in first "waters it down" for want of a better phrase
Two things I reckon. In a dry glass the surface isn't perfectly smooth, under a microscope it's all jaggedy and full of pits and when the soda hits this surface it releases all the bubbles. Once it's wet this effect is reduced, so first time it will froth up like mad, second time round it won't be so bad.
The rum may do one of two things; it could provide a cushion at the bottom of the glass so the bubbles aren't knocked out of the solution and it might also be a bit of a natural anti foaming agent, so the bubbles come out but the drink doesn't foam up.
That drink sounds disgusting by the way. Pepsi max tastes like chemical sweetener and I don't even know what Bacardi Berry is, but it can't compliment it.
