Ray they're somewhat stunning my friend, captured some fine moments there, and set up some lovely shots as well, the sun in the corner of one of them through the trees is just truly lovely :)

Wow, absolutely beautiful shots Raymond and some fantastic compositions! I like the way you've processed them too. The only slight critisism I'd have is that you should have used a flash in photo #4 to get rid of the shadows on the bride/father's faces.

The shots look amazingly well setup and the colour is so rich! I'm not an expert at all, but they look like photos you'd see in magazines or brochures (I mean that as a compliment btw!!).

Oh and the bridesmaid in pic 3 has fantastic norks!

Thanks guys, thanks very much.

I know kate, i was paying attention to the sun all day, notice how the posed shots are are all back to the sun? :) It was intended that way. The one where she got out of the car, it was drizzling 2 mins before that and then she turned up ! no time to grab my flash and just had to shoot it, and then the sun came out !

I really like those. They are a lot better than I've seen from a lot of 'professional' wedding photographers.

Quick question. On some of the photos they are dark in the corners. Is this a filter you use or a Photoshop effect?

Thanks Jonny. :)

It's not a filter, its a feature in lightroom, you can adjust how much you want. I normally add a little bit on each one, not every photo. It depends on the photo and I play with it until i am happy.

This!!

Shouldn't really show you this before I show it to the bride......

You guys remember this shot from a year ago?

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/6158/img6989qb5.jpg

On saturday night, I gave a friend of the bride my card with that photo on the back, in which she says "this photo got you the job"

Because of the dress this bride was wearing, that shot is impossible to recreate, but i did get this (she is off the ground there as you may have noticed how much shorter she is compared to the groom), which is not perfect yet, something bugs me.....

removed coz i rather not show people unfinished work that i am not happy with. Will put it back when its done :)

BBx

Coool Mondo :)

I don't know, I would suggest making the bride and groom stand out a bit more, or making the background more noisy in order to create 'their moment'?

If I ever find some poor bloke to marry me, I am sooo having this type of shot for my wedding, but can I ask how you get the shots, do you get them to pose not posing (if that makes sense :p ) or do you just stalk people and take random shots. What I mean is, some of them you are obviously stood just a few feet away, but they dont look like they know they are having their picture taken at all.

Er, generally the posed one you can tell. Like the one in front of the car, the arch and the lake. They stood there for the shot, I just asked them to kiss and nothing else but they never hold a pose so their muscles don't tense up.

Shots like the girls in the doorway is a candid, not posed, same with the one in the car, and with 23 & 27 for example, they are caught in the moment. I generally just follow the bride all day, because it is her day. There are moments where i go off around the venue by myself looking for shots. If they see me taking a photo, i thank them afterwards and show it to them on the screen, people like that a lot.

Sorry I should have made myself clearer, I knew the posed ones were posed, even though they are lots better than the usual "smile for the camera" type. I get it now, just I know myself I hate it when someone tries to get me to smile, the better picture of me is when I dont know someones taking a pic.

Thanks for clearing that up, you really do have a brilliant talent :)

Apparently a good tip for photos is to put your tongue behind your teeth and smile. It relaxes your face and makes the smile more natural. Not tried it myself yet tho.

What's Lens Flare?

Looks like a brilliant photo to me! :D

Mondo

At the bottom of the dress is this green tint and on the word "Photography", it is caused by light refracting off the front lens element. It can be reduced by using a lens hood (which i have) but it's a risk you get when shooting into the sun, as you get light landing direct from the sun into the lens, which the lens hood can't prevent. But that's quite minimal considering i shot directly into it :)

BBx
23-08-2009, 14:22
Oh yeah! Its on her dress too? I'm such a photography noob. I think I am fortunate to be on here to learn from you guys what to look out for!

BB x

Mondo

Its quite simple really, lens flare is usually a taboo as they are either distracting and when land on an important part of a photo (ie, the face), it ruins a photo Luckily in this shot, its hard to spot and its on the corner, and i actually quite like it.

If you draw a straight line from where that green tint is at the bottom to the sun, you can see the other flares, one of which is a circle green ring at the bottom of the dress.

Lens flare is a natural thing when filming, and in fact, sometimes people go for that effect, like a lot of Sci-Fi movies, its not a bad thing when under control, you just don't want that flare to land on somewhere important thats all. If it had appeared in the middle of the image, it would've ruined it.

LOL, erm, i have thought about that, but i guess i'll cross that bridge when i come to it lol, There are some photographers' work I admire, but that's not the same I want them to photograph the way i want to them. The ones that i really like are based in the States ! The closest one i like is in Norfolk, which isn't that far but I will need to start saving to hire him !
