Hey guys does anyone know any cheap or names of trailers that can hold the charger 5.2mx1.96m and say min 2 tons although 2.5tons would be better.

What license do I need and what car would you need to pull it?

Planning on moving house and going to see if I can get something with at least a drive and maybe a garage.

Something that size won't be cheap.
Place I've used before PRG Trailers, doesn't even have one that size as standard - in fact, they don't even produce one long enough.

But to give you an idea... 16' by 6'4" with a load capacity of 1980kg - Yours for £2200

May be worth making friends with someone with a low loader.

Would soemthing like this be suitable?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Trailer-Flat-Bed-Trailer-17-4-wheel-trailer_W0QQitemZ180397284693QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH _DefaultDomain_3?hash=item2a00841d55&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Or even better this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-trailer-transporter-Twin-axle_W0QQitemZ320412894671QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_3?hash=item4a9a18c5cf&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

and there's a load at 14foot, are you allowed over hang?

Main thing is, can you tow it with any car(for example my carisma) if you have a C+E license. Anyone got any rough idea how much the +E training and test is. Is it hard?
Or does the towing car have to be x% of the tow weight.

When did you pass your car test?

When did you pass your car test?

2002 so I would need the test.

How about pre 1997. Could I get my dad to tow? passed 40odd years ago.

Pre '97 you can drive almost anything upto 7.5 tonnes and your license also gives you provisional entitlement for everything bar HGV/PCV vehicles IIRC.

And remember that whatever the tow vehicle is it has to be able to handle a panic stop with the towed weight pushing on it. My general rule of thumb is the towing vehicle is 1.5 times the weight of the entire towed load (trailer +load).

Your best bet would be a tow dolly that you park the front tyres on it and strap the car to it, drop the Charger into neutral and then have a truck tow the dolly. Cheapest and easiest solution.

I have no idea the proximity to each other, but Justsomebloke would have no trouble with his Landy with your Charger on a dolly behind him. I really wouldn't recommend anything smaller than a Landy Discovery (not Disco II) towing that car. And even at that point stay away from the dual carriageways. Nothing over 50mph.

You can hire a bloke in a lorry to transport it for you. Leon used a guy from Birmingham who he found via Ebay for the 205 to fetch it from Wales when we bought our house.

It's going to be a lot less hassle and probably less expensive than doing your test, hiring something and finding a suitable towing vehicle. I'm sure Leon paid less than £100 for it. The guy has converted it to gas, so he's not expensive.

Will try and get his name

For the Charger and trailer your going to need a BIG car!!
As per Lostkat I would look for someone who could do it for you, there are a few on the NSRA and Rodsnsods forum who most people use....though I used someone from E-Bay to bring a W202 Merc up from the south coast a couple of years back (or actually....did I use Leons bloke...cant remember!!)

Yeah that's how I got it back from Scunthorpe. Wasn't to pricey, but it adds up especially if a garage wont come out and give a quote for work. As If I can find a place in price with a garage. I want to strip it down to the shell. Then get it sand blasted, then get it welded and eventually painted. That's a lot of moving it about by paying someone. But does seem to be the only way at the moment. Although after the first tow it wouldn't way nearly as much with everything out of it.

Unfortunately Darrin can't use a dolly as all 4 wheels have to be off the road. As no mot/tax/insurance.

Think you did. I know you at least got a quote from him.

Well, if you're planning on stripping it anyways, is there any way to get the engine and transmission out before the move?

That would be one hell of a lot of the weight gone and then the rest would be quite easy to move.

Plus the advantage of the engine and transmission being out could go on a small trailer by themselves. And already be out to do cleanup and upgrades with ease...

Wish I lived on that side of the pond. My Jeep would have no problem moving it so long as the trailer had brakes of its own. My Jeep has a full class 3 hitch and is already wired with a brake controller.

I wish I lived in the states. All that empty land and less PC bull crap.

Couldn't think of anything better than have a large plot of land. Being able to go hunting and off road biking.

Not very practical removing engine where it is. But not a bad idea, paid to get it moved. Then when it's stripping down have a good look at trailers and stuff.

Heh, I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with one assigned parking space. LOL

I had to wait until Sunday to do the brakes on my Jeep as one of the apartment complex's rules is no working on cars. But there was no way I was taking the Jeep over to someone else to have $30 worth of parts installed for $300 when I could do the work myself...

Man you last place was awesome. The wood burner the size of land, your moved cheap 2nd house attachment thingy. How's the new place working out?

Darrin

It sucks. $1200 a month on a 2 bedroom apartment plus full utilities and unreliable internet.

All in an area that the job market in Baghdad for a Republican Guard has better opportunities.

Right well I didn't get the sponsored masters place :( *sobs*. So now it's time to move this beast.

Got a mate with a 4x4 and trailer license. But only a small car trailer which it wont fit on.
Anyone any ideas where I can hire a trailer from and what exactly I need?

Would this do?

http://www.honeyfieldtrailers.co.uk/car-transporter.htm

However it's not long enough. Are you allowed overhang? cars 5.2 long and that trailer load capacity is 4.8.

Glaucus

Well that didn't happen when we worked out the weights it was about 500kilos over the cars towing weight.

The mr2 people don't appear to be able to do it, same as the other people I have contacted. It's just too big.

So any others people can think off? I'm sure when I got it from Scunthorpe, that I used a website that emailed a ton of companies and they all replied with quotes.
Wish I could remember what it was and who I used.

Man, I wish I could do something to help!! If it was over here I could do it in a heartbeat. Flatbed trailer from U-haul and a 2" receiver to put in my hitch. Or a 26 foot U-haul truck and a loading dock. Or get a hold of my old neighbor who drove semi truck...

Don't we have an arctic driver on here? A pair of 2X6's on edge and a come-along and you could roll it into a trailer.

do you still need this moving?

If you do, i may know someone who I could borrow a car trailer from, and have a range rover so should be able to manage to tow it!
will make a few calls this week

Thanks for the offer fakesnake, but I think I have it sorted. Found a comparison site and got some great quotes. under the 100 mark. will have to get back to parents and get it ready for moving. put some wheels and stuff back on it and double check it will fit on the drive.

Who did you end up using?
I think mine needs to go from the Luton area all the way up to the Glasgow area, not looking forward to this in any shape or form!!

Haven't used anyone yet, need to get it into a rolling state and a bit skint from spain.

But got quotes through
www.cartransportbroker.co.uk
But it seems to be down.

IIRC it only cost me a little more when I got it from Scunthorpe think it was around teh £150 mark.
