Got some new toys this morning :D

A normal DS...
http://www.desmo.plus.com/ds/dsclosed.jpg

Open it up just to check...
http://www.desmo.plus.com/ds/dsopen.jpg

Add some parts...
http://www.desmo.plus.com/ds/dsparts.jpg

And you've got yourself a SuperCard DS :D
http://www.desmo.plus.com/ds/dssupercard.jpg

Now I can "aquire" some games, pop them onto the 1GB microSD card, pop it in the SuperCard and away I play :)

Burble
22-09-2006, 10:32
What a fantastic idea. I'll have to do the same ;D

Desmo
22-09-2006, 10:45
Well I can show you where to het the stuff :p lol.
It really is cool though as the SuperCard Lite doesn't show one bit, it looks just like the GBA cover piece :D

It's also the first time I've seen a microSD card  My god they're tiny.

Burble

I think my google skills (or looking in my sent PM folder) may help me find the relevant URL ;)

The SuperCard lite wasn't even on the site when I bought my stuff so I have an ugly blue card sticking out the bottom of the DS, but I can cope with that for the 'discounted' games I'm playing.

I've got most of the stuff I need for this now, just not the SD Card reader. Have to get that sorted sometime next week I think.

I didn't realise you could do that, spent loads on Jodie's DS Lite over the last couple of days. So as i understand it, you buy that Supercard thingy and a memory card then you can aquire games and stick them on the memory card and play them? Where do i get a supercard?

Desmo

That was the one I ordered by mistae the other week. My bro-in-law is having that though so no need to send it back :)

Basically, yep :)

You need to run the DS ROM's through some software on the PC first to make the SuperCard compatible but it takes seconds. Then pop them onto the microSD card (sorted into folders if you wish) and then pop the microSD in the SupeCard. Turn on the DS and a menu comes up with the games listed. Select one and it loads within seconds and is playing as normal :)

You also need to add a PassKey (looks like a nomal game card on my pic) which slots into the game card slot. This makes the DS look at the SuperCard to launch games.

Approx Prices:
PassKey = £16
SuperCard Lite = £38
microSD 1GB = £23

Very nice, think i'll cancel a pre-order i have and get one of those instead. Where can i buy them from? Also, how many games fit on a 1GB card?

www.cheapmod.net :)

Thanks.

Burble
22-09-2006, 11:19
The number of games you get on a card varies - the ROMs aren't all the same size. The smallest ROMs are about 8Mb with the largest being 128Mb. On average, they're about 32Mb plus a 256K save file that allows you to save at any time back onto the SD card.

CliffyG
22-09-2006, 11:36
Great, 1gb should be plenty then. I've ordered it all now :). Got a good deal on the SD card http://www.memorybits.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4299.

Desmo

I got my microSD card from www.mobymemory.com
Used them loads of times for various phone memory cards.

Got my DS stuff from CheapMods as Paul said. I got the Pass We 3 PassKey and the SuperCard Lite :)
Give us a shout if you need any help.

Burble

That's a Mini SD card.. the SuperCard uses Micro SD. http://www.mobymemory.com/SanDisk_Kingmax_512MB_1GB_microSD_micro_SD_Tflash_ Transflash_Memory_Cards.asp may be of interest to you.

Got one for my GBA.
Came with a passkey. :D

It's a compact flash one though so it sticks out the bottom a bit - but works lovely.

Plus with a 2gb CF card in it it's great to use.

Slowass :D

It's worth mentioning that you can also use GBA ROMs on the DS SuperCard. Just like DS ROMs they need patching. Mt 10Gb job lot of GBA ROMs finished downloading during the night :D

I got about 1GB of DS stuff last night but haven't had time to trawl though it all picking out the best bits.
Might get another load going over the weekend :D

I was lucky, I got the DS from Sinead on my birthday and then my mum buys me a game and gives me £60
I'm 31 for christ sake, I'm getting toys like a 14 year old :D

Anyhow, that £60 got spent on the SuperCard stuff, although I think she was expecting me to buy some clothes or something, lol.

CliffyG
25-09-2006, 18:59
OK the mario one works fine but i downloaded the Brain Age one and Space invaders and i can't get them working. I installed setupmicrosdV255Cen.exe and then opened the 2 files i downloaded and created dsq and sav files for both of them but the games don't show in my list. I can see the save games though which is odd.

I've formatted the card as FAT-16 instead of FAT-32, is that right?

Burble
25-09-2006, 19:51
It sounds like you're doing everything right so I don't understand why it isn't working.

One difference I see is that as I don't have the MicroSD card (I've got the SD) version I used the software in setupsdV255Cen.rar to patch it.

CliffyG
25-09-2006, 20:08
Tried that version and it still does the same. Very odd, will do some googling in a bit.

CliffyG
25-09-2006, 20:44
OK got it working, reformatted my sd card and all was well. Just out of interest were the files you are sending me already patched?

Burble
25-09-2006, 20:53
Yep. Unpatched downloads will just have a .nds file. You need at least the .nds.dsq to make it work.

CliffyG
25-09-2006, 20:56
It's just that i read that any that were patched for normal / minisd need to be repatched for micro sd due to performance and problems with saves.

Burble
25-09-2006, 20:57
Nah. I gave a mate of mine the same DVD I'm posting off to you tomorrow and he's had no problems using any of them with his Supercard Lite.

I seem to be having trouble with this :/
Got everything, Supercard (Mini SD version), Passkey, 1gb Mini SD card and the software (version 255), patching up presumably fine, but when I load up a game from the menu, the screen goes white then black and nothing happens although the DS is still powered on.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

11-10-2006, 19:25

Burble
11-10-2006, 19:27

bought my DS yesterday and had no idea you could hax them so easy! now it seems like a much better buy.

Just trying to track down a 2gb microSD card for less than £15inc and then i just hope that Tesco will give me a refund on my broken 360 if i take it in tonight...if all goes well i might have my DS haxd by the end of the week ;D

BTW - whats the difference between the SuperCard Lite (http://www.cheapmod.com/item--SuperCard-Lite-Black--supercardlitebk) and the SuperCard Lite (Rumble) (http://www.cheapmod.com/item--SuperCard-Lite-Black-Rumble--supercardlitebkrum)

I've seen those, but I wanted something that I can use to browse a catalogue of releases and download them - I guess that doesn't exist unless I want to use emule or similar :(
thank you!
no worries - I saw your thread and felt less guilty about the huge resurrection! fnar

from what I've read, the SuperCard's support isn't as varied as the CycloDS Evo, and you need to patch your Roms to get them to work so if you're prepared to fork over the extra dough, then it seems to be worth it.

Sic, NDS Release Lister (http://ndslister.emubase.de/show_nds5.en.html) is a good source for whats out but seems to be a little slow on the newer releases, and Frozen Roms (http://www.frozen-roms.net/index.php?show=news&lang=en) is a good place for most Nintendo roms.

just found that CycloDS - http://www.mrmodchips.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=461

looks good (although i seem only to be able to find white ones and my DS is black!) - does that also require a 'passkey'? didn't mention it in the description.

and a link to that SD card would be nice :) thx

Jasper
04-09-2007, 12:22
they only do a white one - my DS is black too! it's a slot 1 solution, so it doesn't require a passkey.

yeah, the microSD goes in the CycloDS, which goes in the regular DS slot. only annoyance I have with that CycloDS is that the microSD is a bit fiddly to get out, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. can't wait to get home and stock up on games - that Mario Minis game is awesome, btw! :D

I don't think there is one - you actually need the memory expansion.

I got a great one from Demonoid yesterday - all US releases up to 1200ish. Tried the new Zelda as well, but that was in Japanese so it was really only gameplay I was looking at - I can't wait for the US version to come out
