View Full Version : My DS
Got some new toys this morning :D
A normal DS...
http://www.desmo.plus.com/ds/dsclosed.jpg
Open it up just to check...
http://www.desmo.plus.com/ds/dsopen.jpg
Add some parts...
http://www.desmo.plus.com/ds/dsparts.jpg
And you've got yourself a SuperCard DS :D
http://www.desmo.plus.com/ds/dssupercard.jpg
Now I can "aquire" some games, pop them onto the 1GB microSD card, pop it in the SuperCard and away I play :)
What a fantastic idea. I'll have to do the same ;D
Well I can show you where to het the stuff :p lol.
It really is cool though as the SuperCard Lite doesn't show one bit, it looks just like the GBA cover piece :D
It's also the first time I've seen a microSD card  My god they're tiny.
I think my google skills (or looking in my sent PM folder) may help me find the relevant URL ;)
The SuperCard lite wasn't even on the site when I bought my stuff so I have an ugly blue card sticking out the bottom of the DS, but I can cope with that for the 'discounted' games I'm playing.
I've got most of the stuff I need for this now, just not the SD Card reader. Have to get that sorted sometime next week I think.
I didn't realise you could do that, spent loads on Jodie's DS Lite over the last couple of days. So as i understand it, you buy that Supercard thingy and a memory card then you can aquire games and stick them on the memory card and play them? Where do i get a supercard?

That was the one I ordered by mistae the other week. My bro-in-law is having that though so no need to send it back :)

Basically, yep :)
You need to run the DS ROM's through some software on the PC first to make the SuperCard compatible but it takes seconds. Then pop them onto the microSD card (sorted into folders if you wish) and then pop the microSD in the SupeCard. Turn on the DS and a menu comes up with the games listed. Select one and it loads within seconds and is playing as normal :)
You also need to add a PassKey (looks like a nomal game card on my pic) which slots into the game card slot. This makes the DS look at the SuperCard to launch games.
Approx Prices:
PassKey = £16
SuperCard Lite = £38
microSD 1GB = £23
Where do i get a supercard?
www.cheapmod.net :)
Very nice, think i'll cancel a pre-order i have and get one of those instead. Where can i buy them from? Also, how many games fit on a 1GB card?
www.cheapmod.net :)
Thanks.
The number of games you get on a card varies - the ROMs aren't all the same size. The smallest ROMs are about 8Mb with the largest being 128Mb. On average, they're about 32Mb plus a 256K save file that allows you to save at any time back onto the SD card.
Great, 1gb should be plenty then. I've ordered it all now :). Got a good deal on the SD card http://www.memorybits.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4299.
I got my microSD card from www.mobymemory.com
Used them loads of times for various phone memory cards.
Got my DS stuff from CheapMods as Paul said. I got the Pass We 3 PassKey and the SuperCard Lite :)
Give us a shout if you need any help.
That's a Mini SD card.. the SuperCard uses Micro SD. http://www.mobymemory.com/SanDisk_Kingmax_512MB_1GB_microSD_micro_SD_Tflash_ Transflash_Memory_Cards.asp may be of interest to you.

Got one for my GBA.
Came with a passkey. :D
It's a compact flash one though so it sticks out the bottom a bit - but works lovely.
Plus with a 2gb CF card in it it's great to use.
Simon/~Flibster
lol, you keep beating me :p
Slowass :D
It's worth mentioning that you can also use GBA ROMs on the DS SuperCard. Just like DS ROMs they need patching. Mt 10Gb job lot of GBA ROMs finished downloading during the night :D
Oh lol, good job i checked this before i confirmed. Amending order now :D. I went for the SuperCard Lite - White with the Super Key.
I got about 1GB of DS stuff last night but haven't had time to trawl though it all picking out the best bits.
Might get another load going over the weekend :D
Oh, if you want any other help, I found these forums yesterday with a dedicated NDS area :)

Hmmmm, interesting. If my funds are good after I get paid I think I may have to invest in one of those, beats buying games any day.
I was lucky, I got the DS from Sinead on my birthday and then my mum buys me a game and gives me £60
I'm 31 for christ sake, I'm getting toys like a 14 year old :D
Anyhow, that £60 got spent on the SuperCard stuff, although I think she was expecting me to buy some clothes or something, lol.
D'oh, sorry Davey, I meant to PM you about this stuff as I figured you'd be interested.

No probs Paul :)
oh man i really want that...loving that it supports saves now too!!
All the bits have arrived today so i'm going to have a play tonight. What sort of files should i look to download. Are they classed as ROMs?
www.nintendo-ds-roms.com may be of interest :)
The DVD I mentioned will go in the post tomorrow.

Thanks, i just wanted something to test it out tonight.
And thanks again for that :).
EDIT
Bloody site needs emule installing to download. Got any which allow normal downloads?
You can grab them from usenet too.
You can grab them from usenet too.
For some reason i've never looked at newsgroups. I'll try out my usual torrent sources and see if i can find some.
www.torrentz.com had a few when i checked earlier :)

Cliffy, if you just want to test something, I can probably put one on some webspace later and PM you the details :)
Good thinking Desmo. CliffyG.. you have a new PM.
OK the mario one works fine but i downloaded the Brain Age one and Space invaders and i can't get them working. I installed setupmicrosdV255Cen.exe and then opened the 2 files i downloaded and created dsq and sav files for both of them but the games don't show in my list. I can see the save games though which is odd.
I've formatted the card as FAT-16 instead of FAT-32, is that right?
It sounds like you're doing everything right so I don't understand why it isn't working.
One difference I see is that as I don't have the MicroSD card (I've got the SD) version I used the software in setupsdV255Cen.rar to patch it.
Tried that version and it still does the same. Very odd, will do some googling in a bit.
OK got it working, reformatted my sd card and all was well. Just out of interest were the files you are sending me already patched?
Yep. Unpatched downloads will just have a .nds file. You need at least the .nds.dsq to make it work.
It's just that i read that any that were patched for normal / minisd need to be repatched for micro sd due to performance and problems with saves.
Nah. I gave a mate of mine the same DVD I'm posting off to you tomorrow and he's had no problems using any of them with his Supercard Lite.
Strange, I've also read that they need to e re-patched for the SCL :/

CD has arrived today thanks, should keep me busy tonight :).
I get all my ds roms from http://www.emuparadise.org/
That has most if not all nds roms. Its also got something like 5000 gameboy ones so that'll keep you busy for a while.
These supercards are superb lol, 25 games on it so far with a bit left over for any extras i fancy. Downloaded Harvest Moon too which will keep the missus happy :D.
Now aren't you just glad I started this thread ;)
Harvest Moon's quite good :D Just got it.
Now aren't you just glad I started this thread ;)
Now aren't you glad I PM'd you? ;)
I shall be jumping onboard this hyah wagon next week. Paid on Friday
You know it makes sense :)
I'm waiting till I get a card reader that works, which is probably a week Saturday.

Well I was going to PM you anyway but you beat me to it, lol
Anyone know a good place to get manuals? Am struggling in a couple cos im not sure exactly what to do.

Good for many formats. However - only got 17 DS manuals at the moment.

And proud of it :D.
They got a Harvest Moon manual on there?
The Harvest Moon manual's pretty crap.
http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/harvest_moon_ds.txt would be a better guide imo :)
Not certain if this will be handy to anyone but I was given this site at work
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/default.php?cat=6&type=6020&man=0&filterwords=&go=SEARCH&comp=
1gb micro sd card for £16

O Rly? :p
Aye Jodie and the kids are just an elaborate smokescreen ;).
I seem to be having trouble with this :/
Got everything, Supercard (Mini SD version), Passkey, 1gb Mini SD card and the software (version 255), patching up presumably fine, but when I load up a game from the menu, the screen goes white then black and nothing happens although the DS is still powered on.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Have you got the latest firmware on the Supercard?
Er, how do I do that? :embarassed:
If you look in the file you downloaded for the Supercard there should be a .bin file. Whack that onto your SD card, fire up the DS and load the .bin file.
Ahh ty :D
How annoyingly simple :D Yay, no more buying DS games

yup these come in nice and handy ;)
also keep an eye out on the homebrew scene too, there were all sorts released for the GBA (and pretty much every other hacked console :p)
Movieplayers, mp3 players, OS, random programs.
There will be some tosh released but also some gems :)
Oh man, more money im going to have to spend! :(
how much does the whole kit come to? (including a ds :D)
Approx Prices:
DS Lite = £99
PassKey = £16
SuperCard Lite = £38
microSD 1GB = £23
Total = £176

Don't work out how much it costs, it's depressing to read when you realise how much you've spent ;D
I was lucky. Piggy got me the DS for my birthday and then spent birthday money from my mum on the other bits, hehe. You'd never think I was 31 :/

Thats what i did too. Spent around £100 on games before getting the supercard.
whoa! holy thread resurrection!! :o
I just took delivery of a cyclods evolution! go me! now I need some roms - is there a decent site around that doesn't require edonkey?
There are plenty on newsgroups if you have access. I also believe that somebody here (might be Leo) has a DVD full of them.
ah, I never got into newsgroups. I'll give Leo a nudge later, seems like the sort of thing he'd have!
There's usually a fair amount of torrents around for bundles of DS games too.
whoa! holy thread resurrection!!
thank you!
bought my DS yesterday and had no idea you could hax them so easy! now it seems like a much better buy.
Just trying to track down a 2gb microSD card for less than £15inc and then i just hope that Tesco will give me a refund on my broken 360 if i take it in tonight...if all goes well i might have my DS haxd by the end of the week ;D
BTW - whats the difference between the SuperCard Lite (http://www.cheapmod.com/item--SuperCard-Lite-Black--supercardlitebk) and the SuperCard Lite (Rumble) (http://www.cheapmod.com/item--SuperCard-Lite-Black-Rumble--supercardlitebkrum)
is it as simple as the cheaper, rumble version, offers more in that it has added rumble to the already vast functionality?
There's usually a fair amount of torrents around for bundles of DS games too.
I've seen those, but I wanted something that I can use to browse a catalogue of releases and download them - I guess that doesn't exist unless I want to use emule or similar :(
thank you!
no worries - I saw your thread and felt less guilty about the huge resurrection! fnar
from what I've read, the SuperCard's support isn't as varied as the CycloDS Evo, and you need to patch your Roms to get them to work so if you're prepared to fork over the extra dough, then it seems to be worth it.
I found a 4GB one for £21 if that's any good to you. not sure if it's inc postage though
Burble gave me a great link a while back, but I can't find it now :( It was a site that did pretty much what you want.

yu i've been looking on that site :) lovin the free shipping as well :) tried to add them to my MSN but they havent responded yet - anybody know how long the shipping takes?
Sic, NDS Release Lister (http://ndslister.emubase.de/show_nds5.en.html) is a good source for whats out but seems to be a little slow on the newer releases, and Frozen Roms (http://www.frozen-roms.net/index.php?show=news&lang=en) is a good place for most Nintendo roms.
thank you Priest - much appreciated

just found that CycloDS - http://www.mrmodchips.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=461
looks good (although i seem only to be able to find white ones and my DS is black!) - does that also require a 'passkey'? didn't mention it in the description.
and a link to that SD card would be nice :) thx
they only do a white one - my DS is black too! it's a slot 1 solution, so it doesn't require a passkey.
also, it's £23, but: http://www.computerwebstore.co.uk/productinfo.asp?ProductID=19929&Referrer=Froogle
oh, so slot 1 is the top slot where the games go i guess?
and the microSD fits within it despite it being slot 1 then? damn that sounds like good value :D
*edit*
wow that site is cheap - 2gb for £10.25 - think imma pick that up - 4gb seems like overkill :)

yeah, the microSD goes in the CycloDS, which goes in the regular DS slot. only annoyance I have with that CycloDS is that the microSD is a bit fiddly to get out, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. can't wait to get home and stock up on games - that Mario Minis game is awesome, btw! :D
yeah fantastic - that should work out a fair bit cheaper than the older option with other stuff :)
and www.nintendo-ds-roms.com looks like a decent site !!
oh btw, was reading on the CycloDS forums before that they've recently started shipping again or something - does that mean it'd be worth waiting a couple of weeks until there might be a new version out?
maybe - I only ordered mine yesterday, I don't really like waiting for things :D
I doubt there'll be a new hardware version, but the OS is incredibly easy to update so, I'd say no point waiting (with a disclaimer!)
Look on my facebook page - I did a note about it with all the sites you need and so on... :)
 you're on facebook
thought it was just full of students and uni staff like me!
btw, quick question - why are these eMule downloads from NDS roms so hard to get going!

Got the first 1200 NDS roms on multiple DVDs here. Trying to keep up with them though.
Any requests? ;)

i'm just getting random sets - didn't really choose specifics...managed to find some individual files though so what really as long as its good :)
anybody know if there is a 'work around' to get the DS broswer rom working?
keeps asking for the memory expansion that 'came with it' but its got plenty of memory :D

I don't think there is one - you actually need the memory expansion.
I got a great one from Demonoid yesterday - all US releases up to 1200ish. Tried the new Zelda as well, but that was in Japanese so it was really only gameplay I was looking at - I can't wait for the US version to come out

For those people using a supercard and having problems - this list (http://www.dualscene.net/lists/index.php?listname=Supercard) may be useful for settings to try to get games working.
Helped me. :D
