View Full Version : What is your Chinese of choice?
Following on from the curry thread...how about Chinese?
I love:
Sweet and Sour anything, though normally chicken
Crispy Chilli Beef
Chicken in Yellow Bean Sauce
Special Fried Rice
DUCK, DUCK DUCK DUCK though mainly because of the Hoi Sin Sauce
Oooh, there's so much to choose from :o

Pretty much anything. It's all good.
But gooder than the rest:
Sweet and sour pork (Cantonese-style is best)
Duck in anything
Kung pao pork
Crispy beef
House special fried rice
Won ton
Foo young
I live on vegetable stir fry.
Anything that involves duck!

Hot & Sour soup
Salt & Pepper spare ribs
Sweet & Sour chicken
anything curry-wise (beef, mushroom)
young chow fried rice
oh and chips :D
chinese menus annoy me, its always so hard to decide.
This is why you can't beat a good all you can eat buffet ;D
if i had to choose though it'd be something like spare ribs, singapore noodles, prawn toast, anything with beef and prawns \o/
hungry now!

Oh I missed out chicken and sweetcorn soup if im in a restaurant.
Not all at once as I vary the starters but:
Won Ton Soup or Curry Triangles or Prawn Toast
Quarter Duck with Pancakes
Kung Po or Smoked Chicken
Soft Fried Noodles
Duck.
Dumplings.
Chow mein of some type.
Cashew nut chicken thing.
Soft fried noodles.
Don't like the sweet and sour stuff as it's never fresh or particularly good.

then again if I'm ever in Philly airport I find the place selling Orange chicken, it's immense :D
Fried Chicken with Garlic Sauce or Chicken Chow Mein
Egg Fried Rice
Chips
That does me just fine. Although I could quite happily eat egg fried rice, garlic sauce and chips all the time :D Not too fussed about the chicken part.

I had orange chicken in a mall in Miami once, and it was divine. Every time I've had it anywhere since it's been rank. But I have to keep trying them to see if I can find another good one :)

I think the main failing is because over there it's essentially sweet & sour but with orange instead. Most places do make it far too citrusy :/

it's both when we make it :)

Chicken Satay
Crispy chilli beef
Aromatic duck pancakes
Chicken Chow Mein
The starters are what makes chinese ace. Best bet is to find one that lets you order as many as you want for free like this :D

But I find Chinese even worse than Indian takeaways. Probably only 1 in 8 is decent. where Indians is probably 1 in 4. Why do people keep rubbish places in business.

Why do people keep rubbish places in business.
In Warrington there is a chinese take-away called the blue dragon in Bewsey which in the 5 years I've been driving past I have never seen anyone in there. I've been joking to my mate we need to go in one day and order something ;D

Most people just go to the shop nearest them and don't really try anywhere else. Must admit that if a shop the other side of town was a touch nicer than our local, I'd still just walk around the corner. Takeaways are generally for convenience food so people don't want to travel. Luckily for us the nearest shop is also one of the best. Everyone who has eaten from there has commented on the food being nice so I guess we're just lucky :)
Singapore fried noodles - not hot, no prawns.
Sweet Chilli fried crispy Beef (first tried with Pigmos - now love!)
Duck and P cakes
Lemon chicken...
EVERYTHING!!! :D
Another Aroma meet anyone?!
:D

There's plenty around me, That I wouldn't even go to if I lived upstairs. As they are truly foul. I can understand going to closest one if it's ok. But there's just so many that just can't cook for ****
I should photograph some of the food when they are fresh off the wok into the tin container before it is closed and bagged, just to show you guys how much nicer it is when fresh. It is still nice when you get home but i can't help but feel a bit sad that i have to close the lid "suffocate" them, especially the vegetables.
Don't mind acrobatic duck and wan ton soup but generally find chinese food quite boring

Oh aye, some can be really bad and really shouldn't be open. I've delivered to some right dives in my time and wonder how they manage to stay in business. But some people just really don't care ::/:

We're like that, the one local to us is passable, the one further away in town is nicer so we'll go there is we're passing, and when we want a treat we'll go to the one near where we used to live, which is too much hassle to get to on a whim.
THL!
That's a number ten, hot and large.
The house special fried rice, large portion with chillis
Perfect for lunchtime at work. We do it every couple of weeks. ish!

Hmm..well this is crap and bland.
Come to think of it, I don't actually know why I even like Chinese food. Having it occasionally as something different is fine, but anything I eat is really neutral and just filled with stock. :/
Szechuan Beef and Special rice.
Szechuan Beef and Special rice.
Wrong answer!
Mum's Chinese banquet which she served us at the weekend has to be winner :p

Mum's Chinese banquet
:D Oh me wants!!! :D
The word 'Mum' when used in reference to cooking should be a legally recognised term indicating quality! ;D
The only really good Chinese food I've ever had was in China. Absolutely everything I tried I loved, especially the dumplings (both the steamed pastry ones and the doughy ones which have a soup & meat filling).
I bet your Mum does a cracking Chinese meal MeiMei :)
