View Full Version : Child Cruelty ?

OH has two young kids from her first marriage.

Long story short, I have inadvertantly discovered that the TV remote from a small portable TV is compatible with the main TV and when the kids are naughty I hide the portable remote in my pocket and press the off switch while clicking my fingers at the same time.

The children thus believe I have magical powers and when they are naughty and the wrestling is on or perhaps Me Too on CBeebies I start clicking my fingers and saying ' Magic. Magic '

The kids then have the fear of whatever in them and behave impeccably as they think I have magical TV switching off powers.

Is this child cruelty, reasonable chastisement or downright genius ?

It's genius and you know it. So genius in fact than when we have kids, I'm going to get a second remote and do the same myself.

Don't forget to tell them that the little red sensor on alarm boxes is Father Christmas's webcam and when the light goes on it means he's watching. That gets the buggers behaving pronto :D

A bit of all the above :)

My favoured method of child control is to play classical music.

It's absolute genius, Von. Keep it going as long as possible. My son figured it out in about four or five happenings, so it didn't last long for me. ;)

I came home from school one day around xmas and was really upset cus a big kid had told me santa wasnt real and to try and convince me that he was my dad had an idea...
When xmas eve came around Dad set up a video camera focussed on the tree to try and catch santa in the act so we could prove he existed...
When we came downstairs xmas morning *quel surprise* the presents were all there under the tree!
So we hooked up the camera to the TV to see if we caught santa or not.....
all the kids were leaning in close as the seconds ticked towards midnight on the clock....
then POP the presents were all there and the mince pie and milk eaten!!!
No santa but apparently thats cuz he moves so fast to cover everyones house in one night...
That had me convinced for another few years :D
Took me years to figure out how he did it...forgot you could pause filming lol
Dads are magical!

I've heard of people being told that when the ice cream van plays music, they've run out of ice cream.

Cruel....

I would use this trick, but both my older 2 can either circumvent the remote by going straight to the Sky box or turn the laptop on and get onto Cbeebies. :(

Please don't take this the wrong way but how on earth does that teach children to behave?
Maybe to calm them down when having time out but in Von's case two kids playing up together?

Von I like your style :D must try that :D bwuhahaha!!!!

You would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids.

Good one Shaggy.

My Dad told me that spicy food i.e. Indian/Chinese could be really dangerous for children to eat due to their developing taste buds!

Therefore, I had no indian or oriental delights until I was nearly mid-teens!!

No wonder I seem to be making up for it now though... :p

Used to do the remote trick to my Dad, can't remember why we had 2 remotes, but was great fun. Don't think he ever worked it out. Either that or he hid it well

haha that's why kids are so much fun because they are so gullible. I used to tease and wind up my kids rotten.. Still do but they give me just as good back now. Remember karma.. one day they will get you Mr. Von ;)

Cruel....

Only the best parents use this ruse.....I've also heard of kids being told to put their coats on and being hung off the corner of doors by their hoods. *strokes beard*

Cruelist thing I ever did was to Leanne. At 3 months old I was bouncing here in one of those spring chairs.. Then I decided to pull the whole back down to the floor and let go.. Done this many a time but this time I forgot to strap her in.. Poor cow catapulted right across the living room into the kitchen.. She's never been the same since.
