Just a heads up for anyone else who's still playing this (thanks for getting me back in, Pickers, tis great!). The 1.50 patch for BF2 is finally being released next Tuesday and with it they're giving away the Euro Force and Armored Fury expansion packs for free! Mint.

Really impressed with the immense amount of support EA have given BF2.
Its still a massively popular game. im glad they've kept it going for so long instead of just pulling the plug
sweet, I installed it a few months back to try and get into it again, but it wasn't the same without a clan.
will have to install this patch - especially given the free expansion packs! the only one i got was the first one (whatever it was called, all I remember is it had zip lines and nightvision!!)

Sadly they'll never get the credit for it. EA are still a company PC gamers love to hate. If they stood back they'd probably realise they're the only publisher offering new and exciting projects for them to play!

For once we're agreed on something :p
EA are one of the few big developers left that are taking chances by offering new, interesting IPs. People always seem to forget they were responsible for Mirrors Edge and Dead Space, two of the most promising IPs to enter gaming in the past year.
Bearing in mind they *did* have a knack of buying any small developer group that offered new, interesting stuff and used to milk the games for as much as possible, it's fairly reasonable for people to still dislike them. I'm not going to get into any arguments about this though!
Still, I can't knock them for the update. I might reinstall BF2 when I get home...

Battlefield Vietnam
Battlefield 2
Battlefield 2142
Battlefield 1943
....
They do come out with the occasional new idea, but mostly it's sequels, expansion packs, and expansion packs to sequels. Same everywhere else though.
They had to do something nice with this patch as they've pissed off a lot of people having taken so long releasing it.
Another forum I use when someone posted news of 1943, most of the replies consisted of 'dont care still waiting for BF2 1.5' :S
I never really got into BF2 but this seems to be a well needed patch and one that has been waited for for a long time.

Can't say as I agree with that Nokkon. The problem with EA is that when they released BF2 it was buggy as hell and buggy for the first few patches. I thank them for launching one of the finest games in the genre on any platform and for squad based shooters its up there with anything else. However they were far too concerned with the development of the Battelfield franchise to actually listen to anything that the community wanted. On it's own merits a great game but the server browser was gash. Many Many threads on the official EA BF1942 forums were trashed and deleted time and time again.
BF2 was a cash cow nothing more for EA. Moreso for the fact that I was knew some of the top server providers at the time who were completely isolated from selling ranked servers. It was a closed shop in terms of who could offer game servers and I am not talking about some fly by nights either. E-Frag & Game2XS were both told not to bother in applying because the answer would be no.
So yes EA were a company that PC gamers loved to hate and quite rightly so.
If they stood back they'd probably realise they're the only publisher offering new and exciting projects for them to play!
Given your knowledge of the gaming industry I would have expected you to know better than that. Many Many companies from the size of Blizzard throught to Interoversion through to small independents have offered new and exciting franchises on par or if not better than EA.

I'm with Loki right now, I tend to associate EA with very big, but not special titles. BF2 is the last title I really loved that they released and the support they gave for it is nothing compared to the support Blizzard and Valve - to only name a couple - provide for their games. I wish more developers released titles with the intention of improving them over time, but that probably runs contrary to making money.
