But yum yum yum roll ups. ;D

I really think Comic Sans should be banned in a professional environment. Make it a severe taboo, like goat porn or something.

My supervisor at work has a Comic sans signature on her e-mails. It makes me cry.

Saying that though I saw one instance of it being used correctly. Was a comic in vector/cartoon format. It kinda worked. Arial Rounded would have been better but still, they tried. :D

Until someone said it was the font I really had no idea what the thread was going on about... I never knew comic sans had so much hatred! Not that I use it, but wow! Learn something new everyday! :)

I wouldn't say I hate the font - it's just that it's widely agreed it really has no place in a professional document. It's the sort of font I'd expect one of my 5 year old neice's friends to use on a party invitation. I don't expect to see it in an e-mail from a reputable e-tailer.

Oh I agree about the professionalism and using cartooney sort of fonts, but it still didn't jump out at me! :o

Of course Comic Sans also happens to be the easiest font to read for those with dyslexia and similar visual difficulties..

Still doesn't stop me loathing it with a passion, just explains why you're more likely to see it being used in schools.

Mental.Hopefully Herr Pickers won't see this post as competition but you aren't exactly untalented when it comes to art/drawing are you? :D

You've muchos talent to not need a crummy, scummy font like Comic Sans.

Most of our forms in work are done using comic sans, whilst I do agree it isn't a professional font - it is easy to read.

I'm not sure about that, but it's not a problem because I happen to work opposite an expert on this subject, so I'll just ask.

On the subject of fonts, Helvetica > allIs Helvetica the one you have to buy? I've read articles about it, OK only BBC News stuff, but its meant to be pretty good. Should probably get a copy of it some time. :)

It's been about 3 years since I was involved in the education sector, but that's what we were being told at the time by Learning Support / Special Needs.

*shrug* it could have changed in the intervening time.

If you're going to write in Comic Sans you may as well put *LOL* at the end of every sentence.

Well, I've had an interesting chat with my colleague and it seems you were right. Apparently, any sans serif font, with letters such as 'a' and 'g' which are formed like Comic are good as long as they are well spaced. An MS study also found that Verdana and Helvetica were good for dyslexics and visually impaired people. :)

vix
14-09-2009, 15:22
We have guidelines to follow for the handouts we produce, and are advised to use Verdana or Helvetica, for the dyslexic aspect, and under no circumstances to use Times new Roman or Comic sans, as one looks like you don't know how to change the default font, and one is unprofessional.

Burnsy2023
14-09-2009, 15:34
The reason not to use a serif font is that when you enlarge it say 300-400% the serifs actually become a hindrance when you read a line of text.

I just received an email:

Dear Feek,

Further to your recent conversations with us regarding your mobiles. I understand that on this occasion we were unsuccessful in winning your business.

Could I ask the main driver for choosing the company you went with?

Look forward to hearing back.

Best Regards,

Melvin Hoy

How tempting is it to reply:

Dear Melvin,

It's because all your emails are in Comic Sans.

Love Feek.

I had to train a group of people using a presentation written in comic sans last week :( One of our project team wrote it and I was going to change the font, but didn't want to offend him, so I decided not to. I did correct his spelling, random capitalisation and incorrect use of 'their' though :p
