Dull poll I know, but which rolling pin do you prefer: old style wood or marble?

I prefer wood because it feels better.

What do you think?

Plastic. Hurts less when you get hit with it

Marble, especially when rolling out pastry because the marble helps keep the pastry cool.

That said I've got a wooden one because it was a helluva lot cheaper.

marble, can use it as a solid mortar if needs be and also stays much colder.

I picked wood because I've actually never used a marble one but wouldn't marble be more hygenic?

Plastic with a screw on lid/cap so i can fill it with warm water to ease my pastry making. + :o + ;D;D;D

Want - Glass with the cap to fill with ice or hot water.
Use - 20 year old wood one

Only ever used wood so my answer is probably a little biased.

Ditto. I would imagine flour sticks better to Wood than marble though?

I've gone for wood too - also because I've never had marble.

If I was presented with a wood or marble pin though and asked which one I'd like I'd go for the marble!

Wood as that (or a wine bottle) is all I've ever used. If anyone wants to buy me a marble one I'm sure I can do accurate tests to see which I prefer ;) :p

It does but what you're rolling is less likely to stick to marble in the first place so you don't really need flour. Perfect for making pastry where adding extra flour isn't a good idea.

(Un)Fortunately I don't bake so will never really face that issue. I like the idea of marble, but there's something that feels nice about a big heavy wooden one between your hands.

Will knows everything! Didn't you know that?

Mummy Will does bake though. Her tarte tatin is rather scrummy from what I remember.

Depends on what it is being used for :P Wood or glass with plugs.

Never used a marble rolling pin. However I can imagine it being a lot better.
Not only does it weigh more and keep cool. I imagine he high polished finish that can be achieved will make it far less prone to sicking.

Wood. Because it (and my toes) will survive when it inevitably rolls onto the floor.

That's a good point, I'm always dropping stuff so a wooden rolling pin wouldn't break my toes and the floor tiles. However, I feel unable to vote as I've never used a marble rolling pin before and I do think that marble would be better than wood.

Wood. I'm not posh enough to use marble.
