Hey guys I have an incredible craving for something chocolaty or sweet. Going to have a quite night in with a few films. But feel like something different rather than just chocolate brownies or the usual.

So any one got any really good indulgent recipes?

Simple but awesome :)

There's another recipe involving malteasers, chocolate digestives, golden syrup and marshmallows but not got it written down here so I'll see if I can dig it out. It's a bit like Rocky Road really.

I looked up a basic recipe and it said to add sugar. However As I missed the buter. Didn't put any sugar in add a little more syrup, some water and some veg oil. So we will see how it comes out. It was actually dark chocolate orange as well.
Although you can't tell in he pic. I made the white and dark choc up separate so there's clusters of each.
Now to wait an hour or so till set

Stole it from the internet, I can take no credit.

I just PM'ed it to Tak, so will copy and paste what I wrote to her having now made it myself

I left the salt out because it just seemed weird to me. Keep stirring the caramel when you make it because it wanted to stick to the sides of the saucepan very easily, and let the caramel cool and set in the fridge for about half an hour before you do the chocolate because it was too runny otherwise.

Not that i'm bragging, but this stuff does taste a lot nicer than most of the caramel shortbread I buy from the shops. Was really simple to make as well. :)

I think you should only post some to people that can't make your birthday party. Especially those who will be in Canada at the time.

Maaaaaaaariiiiiiie! Why is it when I made them yummy caramel shortcakes my caramel went

FOOOOM

?

I did as it said with the sugars and meeeeeeelted them as slowly as I could (although Picky kept interfering and turning up the heat) and then after a few minutes of them cooking (and constant stirring) I added the butter and it all but exploded!

I manically stirred and added cream and eventually got it all to mix!

But like... it went a darker brown (not dark dark) and I realised it was burnt :(

How do you make caramel?! Hmm hmm hmm? I'm obviously no good!

I think the issue was melting the sugar... when you stirred it, the liquid pulled away from the bottom of the pan cooled and crystallised again in amongst the unmelted sugar. Bigger pan?

^^^ I've just seen this! What a loon, deffo wrong thread :p

OK... more on topic for this thread... I made millionaires shortbreads last night, but the choc has gone all white on top :/ am thinking its because I didn't let it cool down before putting into the fridge or shouldn't have put it in the fridge at all.

Am thinking of putting some more choc on top and not putting in fridge - would that work does anyone know?!

Tonight it is... cheese and onion rolls!!! :D

Mine went in the fridge to "set" and were fine. I'm not sure what's caused them to go white on top sorry, but I put mine in the fridge. Could possibly be "cold burn" if your fridge is cold I guess.

Kitten
14-05-2010, 21:34
I think the White is the fat in the chocolate. Because you chilled it (before it cooled down to room temp?) it rises to the top. Sure I remember someone telling me that. Happens if you put regular chocolate bars inti the fridge too, or if you open out of date chocolate, the fat rises and it goes sort of bubbly White on top. Might depend on the chocolate, I don't know.

BBx
14-05-2010, 23:06
Nice!

Oh well... it was a bit of a disaster... at what point do you cut them up Marie? BEFORE you put in fridge to set? Because all my choc cracked and 1oz of butter wasn't enough to hold together the crushed biscuit base!!!

Still the caramel was lush! :D

How do you make caramel?! Hmm hmm hmm? I'm obviously no good!

Instead of using double cream use Condensed Milk (there's actually a recipe for millionaire's shortbread on the side of the tin!)

Yup - close your eyes Piggy! :D ;)

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/6889/43906392.jpg

For the caramel, instead of using dark brown sugar I used light brown muscavado (as it was already in my cupboard) and also condensed milk (not cream).

And of course Lozza's lucious shortbread which was FANTASTIC! :D

Will never cheat again!
