Right well its done anyway cannot see anything for less or better for a small amount more, annoying its only got 1Gb ram (and its soldered) but you win some you lose some it should tide me over for now :)

1GB is plenty if you aren't going to run Windows :p (Windows 7 possibly excepted, not tried it on a netbook)

You might get away with a skeleton install of XP and keep it light, but no chance with Vista. :p

7 Runs lovely on a netbook with 1GB RAM, it'll quite happily run on 512MB RAM aswell though hardly any netbooks come with 512MB any more anyway.

I run 7 on a 1GB laptop and it runs a lot nicer than Vista used.

It comes with XP SP3, i'd still rather more memory but i know its not the end of the world :) It'll probabbly have Ubuntu netbook remix, or maybe mobiln thrown on it, as well as a dual boot for XP SP3 (or 7) to keep me sane. Feel quite happy about that deal, i've been borrowing laptops for ages now, and i thin holding out months without my own was long enough before i cracked seeing that little netbook on HUKD.

Its not laptop replacement, but it fills a void and i can sell on later if i see some second hand bargain or something come up i can afford :)

You can stick OSX on the Dell's relatively easily too can't you?

You could try Ubuntu's Moblin Remix (http://www.ubuntu.com/news/canonical-dell-deliver-ubuntu-moblin-remix) :)

Am I the only one who thinks this is probably offputting to most people as far as Linux goes?

We already have Ubuntu and Ubuntu Netbook remix and Moblin. Why then, has someone decided we need yet another one and just combined two existing ones into Ubuntu Moblin?

It's needlessly confusing IMO and bar a few hardcore Linux geeks, if they've used the same GUI as Moblin, I doubt most people would even tell the difference.

Of all the things potentially off putting to Joe Public as far as Linux is concerned, I dont think the amount of choice is top of the list. It's true that the various distributions dont communicate their differences well to Joe Public, but that is part of a much larger Linux marketing shortfall. The collaboration and technology sharing is one of the open source worlds greatest assets, and far outweigh this downsides in this argument.

In this case, the distro is aimed squarely at developers/early adopters, it's not meant for your first Linux experience and that is clear. Presumably Dell want to evaluate it against the original UNR - they already have a support arrangement with Canonical, and I guess they would prefer them to support it rather than Intel. Because it's an open source project, this is possible, and at minimal cost to all concerned. Win++ tbh.

Well it would seem you don't get better since dell corected the price today back up to around £300 here's to hoping the honour my price :) I did put it on my credit card to make sure either way

Good luck, that's a cracking little machine.

Agree with Feek, I'd have been tempted myself at that price. It's a steal Guv. If you do get it at that price and decide you don't want it, do let me know. ;D

And I can vouch for the fact that 7 will run great on it. In fact, I've got 7 RC running on lesser hardware.

After Reading about if I can get the gma500 to play nice this Will sort out HD content fairly well too :) but it sounds much easier said than
done... Estimated delivery is 15/10 but I'm already in phase 3 production so fingers crossed it's sooner!

*jumps around* I'm being impatient and I cant wait any longer. C'mon Dell! :(
I'll soon be able to view the Internet from something else other than an iPhone.

Well, I'm sure someone will take the order off you hands if you get impatient and go elsewhere. Too good an offer to pass up there. :)

It's been pushed back by nearly a month? Are they making it utterly and completely from scratch?

They are out mining the silicon as we speak

Apparently theyre having trouble with components mainly processors which could make sense since intel said their stopping shipping the z series atoms to netbooks and laptops since its meant for MID's...

Well worth the wait :D This little bugger does absolutely everything and has a hell of a lot under its bonnet for such a little thing! The LCD is utterly fantastic as well, only thing its missing is wireless N for now, that is pretty much literally the only thing (apart from RAM) i can even think of!
