I was waiting until I had some pictures of my own to post this but it hasn't happened so here's a piccie of my new ride. The Anglia is broken and I haven't had the time to fix it, new job and got to get to work, so here it is:

The only difference is it's wearing vintage UK plates instead of American plates and it's got a new black roof which is up most of the time.

It's running a 3.9 litre flathead V8 from around 1953, 5 speed gearbox with dog-leg first gear, crossplies, beam axle and drum brakes.

Picked it up on Tuesday and drove it back 150 miles from Norwich. Sits at 80 quite happily and returned 25mpg which is quite smart for an old motor like that with vintage twin carbs.

Just enjoying it as it is for now but will be tinkering with it and changing a few things as I get time.

Really got to head round yours for a ride in that, looks nuts! Spray it up proper and that could be a keeper

Not quite pie crusts. They're dirt track tyres but next to no grip on the tarmac. They need replacing so I'll swap them to straight whitewalls.

First week over. No problems except having about £20 of petrol nicked out I think. I'll be swapping to a locking cap I think :(

Where in Kent do people steal petrol from your car?!

Will

In the SE London part of Kent (which despite being a BR postcode is effectively where Jon is).

Awesome car mate! Can I come and have a play?! :D

I'm back in the land of normality next week. We'll have to hook up, Will :)

Did a bit of spannering today. Nipped some stuff up like the brakes, changed the oil, checked some fluids and checked it over. The axle was out of oil so I filled it up and gave all the bolts in the banjo a tighten up. 4 of them were finger tight :o

Other than that all was good and I took some fresh photos.

Do you use that as your regular daily drive, Jonny? I love the look of it, but what actually is it?

Jonny69

Yeah it's the only car I've got that's working. The Anglia is broken at the mo :)

It's a Model T on top and mainly Ford Pilot underneath.

*dreams of driving up to a road side assistance call in something like that*

And I agree with Malc...

Dunno if I prefer it "engine out" or "engine in"... definitely better black, and with the skirt bit added.

What are you doing with the pipes?

i actually much prefer it without the changes. looks raised up without the running boards and the open engine is just something you don't ever see over here.

Yeah, it's a pretty car as it stands and just looks 'right' covered in rust and moss. It's a shame to clean it up and paint it but that's what I want :D

Is it not going to be a little "exposed" for the winter!? :D ****ing love it either way though!

volospian
17-12-2009, 22:15
yeah, hope it's got a nice heater in there, Jon, lol ;)

Darrin

Knowing Fords the way I do, it's probably got a heater core the size of a large briefcase and a fan that would propel the vehicle at 10mph by itself. Jeep tended to use Ford parts for things like that and my CJ-5 would cook you out of the cab in a matter of seconds if you were stupid enough to turn it on the high setting!!

So unless it's one of the models that was originally designed as a hard top coupe, it'll have a heater that would roast the nuts off a polar bear from 50 yards. At the North Pole. On New Years Eve.

No heater. And I'm going to go and break the ice off it in a bit and go to the library because the trains for work are messed up ;)

The Cerb was a nightmare in winter. The cooling system was designed to blast around a track all summer, so in winter it took an absolute age to warm up. However, when it did, you were sitting only a few mm from the rather large cats that ran down the transmission tunnel, so by the time the heater was blowing hot air, the cats were almost roasting your ass (there was a warning sticker under the bonnet telling you not to park on long grass in case you set your car on fire, lol). That car went from being frozen to able to bake clay without really passing through "pleasant", lol.
