Booooooo really want to have a play with it now! :(
Seems the invites are a lot more exclusive than with Google Mail.
By the sounds of it, there's 100,000 initial invitations gone out from Google, and each of those invitees have a further 100 to give out. Those 100 invites contain no further invites and the spread stops dead, unlike Google Mail in which each invite spawned another set.
The chances of getting one if you haven't already are quit slim apparently so I'm just going to wait until it goes fully public, shouldn't be too long because they'll risk alienating both parties if they keep the fence up too long. Non-users will want in, and users will want to use it with more people.

I bet it won't be long til invites start going on eBay :p
3 days too late mate ;)

I got an invite to this but didn't know what it was :p
Exactly - what's all the fuss about anyway? :p

Still want it? ;)

I think this is why they're doing the invite thing again - I don't honestly think it's something most people want or need and I can't see it revolutionising the face of internet communication as some people have said.
Much like GMail, it's the invitations generating the hype more than the site in question. If GMail had just launched, everyone would have just stayed on Hotmail or whatever they were using and take up would have been slow.
Make it seem exclusive via invites and suddenly everyone wants in, even people who don't even know what it is.
I saw the demo video and really couldn't get excited about it, not even with people at work getting all enthused.
By the sounds of it, there's 100,000 initial invitations gone out from Google, and each of those invitees have a further 100 to give out.
I have been informed this number is actually 8 invites for the initial 100,000 to give out, giving a total userbase should everyone use them of 900,000.
Rich has got it bang on really. It's not something the average person wants or has a use for but google are creating the "need" by limiting it. I've not idea why the average user might need it.
A friend of mine got his invite this morning and posted a video. It looks like it could make group work at uni really easy (and I have an assignment on synchronised communication tech!)

Because for the average user it's for communication, file sharing and a bit of games. Basically a much better "MSN"
For business, it's going to be very useful. Things like SourceSafe have done this sort of thing before, but you know Google, they'll take the concept and make it expandable, user friendly, and very very reliable.
Fair point on the last case - providing it is secure of course. Would certainly come in handy here with a team based in at least four offices (two US, one UK, one EU).

Early feedback from a few people you might know. :)
Well that's not the most encouraging start ever. Like me, they seem utterly confused by it, difference being they've actually been using it and are still confused as to quite what's going on.
The developer conference made it look pretty straight forward. Unless it's all changed since then.
It does seem like a solution looking for a problem though, at least from the outside. Massively impressive technology mind, I cant even comprehend how they got federation working/reliable.
Hopefully it'll make sense when it's generally available and someone comes up with a killer application, or scratches a major itch with it.

Wow, Rory shouldn't even be considered technical.
His "Broadband Britain" tour was a joke.
Did I say he was technical? Does it matter if he's technical? Is Google Wave meant only to be used by technical people? Sorry, but kneejerk reactions like that don't help anyone.
it seems like you could make some pretty good forum type chat with it. splitting waves when you need to, new waves for new stuff.
we shall see how it plays out in the tech trials for now.

Ah ok:
Invite others to Google Wave
Google Wave is more fun when you have others to wave with, so please nominate people you would like to add. Keep in mind that this is a preview so it could be a bit rocky at times.
Invitations will not be sent immediately. We have a lot of stamps to lick.
Happy waving!
Cool. Random mid week surprise toy. I'm guessing it'll appear when we're all really busy :D

Go for it if there are still invites, although I think I'm too late again, this not having my own laptop lark is starting to pi** me right off :)
I'm quite looking forward to waving, not done that for awhile lol

Come on Google, I know people who got sent invites later than Blighter did them and they're in already :(

For some reason you appeared immediately into my contacts, which was nice. I've cocked up now though and lost your contact :p.
Hit me up back.
I've got a couple of people in there already, I assume because they were in my contacts/messaging contacts already :)

Will do when I get to work, for some reason the Google Chrome Frame will not install on this PC.
Edit: Ah managed to fix it, yay
I was offered an invite which I accepted, it turned up and I've gone into it. Now what?

and that's the $1m question ;)
For me it is useful for collaborating with colleagues in several locations in real time but for the average home user I'm not too sure why you would want it. Google would have you believe that it is e-mail 2.0 but I'm quite happy with e-mail 1.0 at the moment.

So who's still using this groundbreaking revolution of communication?
:D
I've not used it since November. No surprise there :)
Looks like all the Buzz (http://www.google.com/buzz) is now elsewhere. :)
... and it's dead (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/08/04/google_wave_dead/)!
I don't honestly think it's something most people want or need and I can't see it revolutionising the face of internet communication as some people have said.
