View Full Version : VLC not pushing dialogue through the 5.1 settings
So, I've got a 5.1 system running through the optical cable of my Audigy 4 pro but VLC plays the dialogue of video at a level you just can't hear.
I have to change VLC to 2 front 2 rear in order to hear what people are saying.
Does anybody know what might cause this? I've got Win7 configured to 5.1
Codec problem? Does windows media player sound OK?
Given how new Win7 is, it might just be a VLC incompatibility, but I'd go with Desmo's suggestion. If Windows Media Player won't play it, try Media Player Classic.
codec wise, i've got CCC installed - which i generally regard as all you need codec wise.
i'll try media player classic... and then WMP if i really have to.
thanks.
well, i ran WMP for the first time evar :O
and it had the same problem - i hear background music just fine, but voices - not at all :(
I had a bit of fun installing it all, do you have AC3Filter installed?
As its outputting through your optical I presume you are outputting as an AC3 stream?
I use MPC HC and it works quite nicely.
I think I used this tutorial - it's for outputting audio over HDMI but the same should apply for your optical out settings, I think :)

cheers Rich. that didn't work though :(
Hm. Have you tried the speaker test to ensure all speakers are working and that it isn't the receiver?
oh no. only my front left and right channels work in the speaker test :(
what does that mean  :(
Lol :p
Tricky one - I had a problem with Win7 in that the 'latest' drivers disabled the AC3 passthrough, so everything was being mixed to Stereo, once I rolled back the drivers, it worked perfectly. (Nvidia Ion chipset though, so different).
Sorry I can't be more use - I remember it required a bit of fiddling to get it all working properly but now it does...that's about it really, I'll see if I can find the settings when I get home and will post them up :)

My rear right speaker isn't working :(
i tried to remove the drivers before. massive issues.
I've got those 3rd party 64-bit (vista) drivers that caused that controversy a few years back when people suddenly realised how crap creative drivers are.
I removed the software and then after a restart got my first ever Win7 BSOD as it tried to install the official creative Win7 driver.
I then tried to remove the audigy entry into the sound section of dev manager, but that didn't seem to work (after leaving it for about 10mins) so I've got really got anywhere on that seen as though i can't uninstall the card!
*edit*
After all that, I've just watched another video, and I'm getting dialogue through the central channel, although at an awfully low volume.
