This is one of the reasons I love this guy.

clicky (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1219330/Stephen-Fry-saved-life-The-touching-letter-comedian-wrote-fellow-depression-sufferer.html)

I think anyone who suffers from depression or anxiety or any other disorder that makes them feel like things are pointless would benefit from the insight he shows in this letter :)

Thats really lovely. I know a lot of people who have struggled with depression, and this is a really apt comparision....and one I may have to use myself in future!!

Yup I love that guy too in a completely hetrosexual way. It was watching his show on depression that really made me think about it. I also like his analogy. The one I use is that I've got a cold. You know you just get a cold sometimes. Theres no medication to fix it, just stuff that'll get you through it and you have to remember that in a few days you won't have a cold. Its bloody frustrating but it will pass.

Really bizarre thing to notice reading his letter but there's a massive typo - or at least I can't see any form of reasoning as to why it would be written the way it is!

"BUT

It will be sunny one day.

It isn’t under one’s control as to when the some comes out, but come out it will.

One day."

I'm not doubting that the letter was from Stephen Fry, just funny to see an error as obvious as that in a letter from such an educated fellow :)

I worship the man. Top stuff.

He can do No wrong by me & I really am in Awe of this man.
His Intellect & memory along with his compassion & own life experience touches so many people in a good way.
Major Kudos to Mr Fry. :)

Stephen Fry's awesome.

I can't find the link but the letter he wrote to himself for the future was amazing. So was his reply.

Edit - here it is :

I noticed that typo as well Pheebs and was about to post the same thing.

Still, lovely analogy. However as he said, there's not much he can do to help her really.

When you are going through a time like that it's really worth trying to remember what he says there. I know it's what I try to remind myself (not the exact analogy but the principle that it will be better one day) of when I'm going through a time like that. It's not easy but you just have to keep on remembering tomorrow is another day and one of those tomorrows will be a better day.

Splendid chap is Mr Fry. Although, as mentioned above, that typo is like being whacked around the face with a well-oiled hippo.

It's not a 'typo'. Generally a typo is when you make a typing error, i.e. using the word 'son' instead of 'sun' (Although that would have been funny in the sentence context! :p). Using the wrong word is something different entirely.

Oh. Whoops! I guess I wasn't thinking straight at 2am :) A very... light malapropism then! That's the only other way I can think of describing it! :)

wasn't aimed at you chicken, was just pondering it myself. Doesn't always read as light heartedly as it was meant to when you read it back in the cold light of day :)

No no it was a good point! I hate it when I fluff up things like that and use words wrongly (I do it all the time and swear it makes me look like a moose pie!)! I probably would have used it improperly again in the foochure if I'd done it once so it's made me looksy it up :D

Still don't know the proper way of saying what kind of error it is... there must be a proper word. Irritating me now!

Reminds me of an old Stephen Fry sketch from Blackadder goes Forth.

Anyone remember it? ;)

The letter really sums it up, Depression, even in it's simplest form, is serious and very real. Bipolar even more so....

It really touches me in the right places reading things lie this, I've got friend who was diagnosed with being bipolar - about a year ago now - and seeing Stephen Fry talk about it in such a simple way helps me to understand a little more, that program he did for the BBC was great and this letter is fantastic as you'd expect from Mr Fry...

Lord Fry (as he should be known methinks) is a legend. One of the nicest peeps on TV and a downright decent guy as this letter shows.
