Hi guys.

I'm after pre-ordering Forza 3 but having never done a pre-order online before I'm wondering which retailer is usually best for getting the game to you on release day?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Whenever I have pre ordered, I have done it with Play.com and I have received it the day before the release date. They are very good at delivering when they say they will :)

Pre-ordering is a little bit hit and miss at the moment.

After last year's ~£30 super market offers on new releases (and what appears to be more of the same this year) most online retailers end up being at least a few quid more to pre-order from.

I still pre-order though and my last few were from The Hut and all orders turned up the day before at a minimum.

From what i've been seeing on forums lately, Play.com have been getting a little slack with delivering pre orders on time the last 3 months or so.

Gameplay are usually very good, not always the cheapest any more but very consistent with pre-orders.

Shopto, no question imo. At the moment they are suffering due to the Royal Mail issues but that is by no means their fault. Usually they get preorders to you at least a day before the highstreet release date, often a couple, even with these Royal Mail issues i got my copy of ninja gaiden sigma on the release day. Also they tend to offer discounts for people who preorder early, my copy of Uncharted 2 will be costing me £32, not the £37 now stated on the website.

Surely that could be due to Royal Mail, not play.com.

It's not something i've seen people mentioning for other places though really, it seems to be just Play.com people are finding slower.

The royal mail issue is only relatively recent, Play have been slipping for ages. About a year ago i ordered Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, they didn't even post it until the release day so i received it the next week.

I ordered Forza3 from Blockbuster for a pretty damn good price on the LE. No idea what they're like for pre-order delivery dates though.

Just went to the Blockbuster site and noticed they're still doing the LE for £40. Bargain. Going to get it on order!

Gameplay was always good for me with pre orders but to be honest. I doubt i'll ever pre order again. Seeing supermarkets selling the likes of Fifa 10 for £24 on the day of release just puts me off getting stung by pre ordering like a lot of people did. :D

Yeah, I guess. But I can't really moan at £40 for an LE edition.

Sigh, Blockbuster declined my card apparently because it's a Visa Debit and not a Visa Credit. Looks like I'm ordering from elsewhere but unfortunatley it's not going to be the LE as I don't want to fork out £60. :(

Play is definitely at the will or royal mail, I've pre-ordered stuff within seconds of someone else (from the same computer...) from play and it's gotten to me 2-3 days before him despite sending on the same day. And given RM doesn't appear to like turning up to work at the moment I wouldn't count on them.

That said, they (play) don't appear to be following their "normally despatched within 24 hours" guidelines for non pre-orders at the moment.

Just to throw another into the mix.

Because of a 10% one day only special deal both Daz and I pre-ordered Halo ODST from Lovefilm (shop). The release date was Tuesday 22nd and I got mine on the Saturday before, and Daz on the Friday.

I personally would never pre-order a game from Play.com, I've had too many bad experiences in the past, including one where a game turned up a week past the release date. That was several years ago to be fair but since then I've never trusted them. Great prices, unreliable delivery service. Gameplay have always been absolutely spot on, in fact with the 30 or so games I've pre-ordered from them, not one of them has turned up late, with the vast majority (about 25 or so) arriving at least the day before release. If I want something on the release date guaranteed, I'll order from them, every time.

Just to let you know, Game have now reduced express delivery from £5.00 to £2.95 because of the royal mail strikes. Choosing paid express will beat the strikes!

Shopto.net, Game and Gameplay I find to be consistently great. Play have been fairly awful in my experience, I'd never rely on them to get something to me for release day.

These 3 are fantastic, but I'd also add Zavvi to the list. They've been awesome for me.

A quick example of how good shopto are, i recieved Unchated 2 on wednesday, considering the release date is today (Friday) and there's postal issues i'd say that's pretty good!
