I've been off with lower back pain since last Wednesday, just been back to the doctor and I've been signed off for another week.

It's nice to not be at work, but it's not a nice reason to be off. It hurts :(

I've got some decent strength codeine thingies, they're not bad.

Pheebs, my skype has been on non-stop since you texted me the other evening. Just yell some time tomorrow.

I sympathise with you Feek, my lower back still isn't right after knackering it in 14 years ago :( I still get a twinge every now and again.

Get well soon dude :)

Hope it clears up soon, though I know all too well that it often doesn't. :(

Had some back lower pain myself this weekend but mild by comparison. It's gradually wearing off though. No idea what triggered that.

I get mild back pain routinely. Part of my gym work is focusing quite strongly on the lower back to build up the muscles and reduce the occurrence. Primarily I get it when someone has sat in my chair at work and adjusted it. Takes me a while to get the chair just right. More often than not I can stop any back pain by kipping on the floor one night.

I'd be a lot better off all around if I could sleep on my back, but I've tried and I inevitably end up on my side before long. Not sure how to break that habit.

Hope you get well soon matey.. I know what it's like being off with back pain. Fortunately, I've not had my back go for nearly 8 years.. Now why did I have to go and say that!

You have my sympathy Feek, I've been signed off for 2 weeks with back problems twice in the past 3 years, it's not nice at all. The pain the first time was so bad I was nearly in tears, I wouldn't wish that amount of pain on anyone (except one or two people perhaps). Hopefully some rest will sort you out :)

It's degrading when you can only get around comfortably on your hands and knees. Sound familiar?

With me I could walk, but only hunched over as it was virtually impossible to straighten my back for more than a few seconds at a time. I remember going to view the house we now live in before we bought it, and I had to let Lynne look at the upstairs on her own as I couldn't physically get up the stairs. Never want to feel that much pain ever again, I'd rather break my leg than go through that once more.

The one time Lynne invited you up the stairs.. :D

My back still hurts and I'm due back to work on Tuesday. I'm going to go for a short drive tomorrow and see how it feels (I was advised to rest it and not drive) but I have a nasty feeling I'm going back to the doctors tomorrow as I was signed off for a week.

I hate this, I really do.

When I did my neck (baaaaaad whiplash from someone rear ending my car thus writing it off... grumpy grumpy GRUMPY pheebs) I was off for weeks. Really was completely gutted and so so bored... couldn't do anything fun so I'm feeling your pain :(

Big lubbles and hoping a miraculous recovery soon! If not - don't go pushing yourself to try and make it better it may only make things worse.

xx :)

Is it worth trying to see a Chiropractor to see if they can diagnose whats causing it. Painkillers are all very well (and I love them dearly) but is it worth trying to find out what it is? :)

Feek

I asked the question today and was told that it's muscular, I put it out when I was moving some heavy kit a couple of weeks ago and that it can take a while to get better. I've had muscular back pain before and I concur with what I was told. It is a bit better than it was so it does appear to be slowly on the mend.

Furry nuts. Bruised my cocxyx (sp) once, so I know how much back pain can hurt. :(

I hated have back pain, took months to sort mine out unfortunately. They told you to do swimming to help it? They recommended that I did some exercise, front crawl specifically.

I hope it sorts itself out soon :)

bummer :( Just try to make the most of it and take it easy. Once you're back at work you'll be wishing you were off again ;). Muscular pain is so painful & frustrating because it brings you down so much as you're aware of it all the time. *gentle hugs*

Have you looked at getting any treatment on it? Should clear it up much quicker than just taking some pain killers.

vix

Diclofenac and Codeine are the two best painkillers around for backs imo! However a bit of deep tissue massage or chiropractic would probably benefit you immensley, and prevent it coming back in the future.

Absolutely agree with Vix. I bang on about osteopaths but there's a good reason. They are magical!

My parents swear about them, usually during the couple of hours after a visit when everything seems to hurt more.

The difference once that post-visit pain vanishes is magical though.

Oooooh Iv taken these for my lady pains (yes I know they get that bad!) and I went crazy on them! Felt like I was drunk.....!

They soon took me off them. :(

Still got them though ;)

Jingo

No more taking them for you space missy!

I hope you're feeling better soon Mr Feek - I'm sure the analgesics will take the edge off the pain, but I hope you gain a permanent resolve for the issue also - the shorter amount of time you're on them the better.

Just be aware that after stopping a course of 30/500's it is not unusual to experience aching limbs, nausea and 'bum-gravy' - this is all a part of the withdrawal from Codeine, but often people get confused when they stop taking 'pain-killers' to find bad aches throughout their body.

Fingers crossed for an easier couple of weeks for you :)

Relinquishing junk. Stage one, preparation. For this you will need one room which you will not leave. Soothing music. Tomato soup, ten tins of. Mushroom soup, eight tins of, for consumption cold. Ice cream, vanilla, one large tub of. Magnesia, milk of, one bottle. Paracetamol, mouthwash, vitamins. Mineral water, Lucozade, pornography. One mattress. One bucket for urine, one for feces and one for vomitus. One television and one bottle of Valium, which I've already procured from my mother, who is, in her own domestic and socially acceptable way also a drug addict. And now I'm ready. All I need is one final hit to soothe the pain while the Valium takes effect.

Just don't visit the "Worst toilet in Scotland"

I don't think a bullet will help much though. ;D

Feek
27-10-2009, 18:24
Aye, I know. In all seriousness he suggested it but said we'll try this first and if it doesn't help then acupuncture is an option.

Tak
27-10-2009, 18:27
If it was just massage I would say make sure you drink plenty of water tonight - the massage will release the acids that are in your muscles; if you don't drink enough then the acids will just soak straight back in again instead of being flushed out of your system. As it was more manipulation then it isn't as necessary but it will have still released some acids so an extra half pint of water may still be of huge benefit.

vix
27-10-2009, 18:27
Acupuncture is very, very relaxing. I'm not sure I felt any physical benefit but it did help to relax me a lot!

I'm not bothered about needles at all, but seriously, you really can't feel them.

Wilco. I'm going out for a curry tonight, it'll be amusing if once I've sat there for a couple of hours I can't move!

Glad you got seen by the physio so quickly. When I got referred to the physio, it took so long for me to get an appointment that by the time I went in my back had fixed itself. All they could do by that point was give me exercises to do in case I ever feel my back going again.
