What is everyone's app of choice for remote controlling windows machines? I will be rebuilding my grandparents machine at xmas and I will be installing windows 7. Much easier to log into the machine and find the fault than trying to help over the phone. I also need to support windows xp as well.

I would have used winvnc (now realvnc) but what would people recommend?

How about Remote Assistance? Not sure how it works because I've never used it, but would that be an option?

I've always found Logmein to be very competent, especially for an essentially free app.

i still use real VNC, and make liberal use of the java client too

If you are doing it over the internet then LogMeIn is by far the best. no IPs or any of that crap. remote control is free, and you can pay to upgrade to remote file management and the like :)

If it's for Windows XP > have you thought about just using Microsoft Terminal Services/Remote Desktop? Dameware is also an excellent free remote control tool.
