My phone crashed in the early hours of the morning, so I took the battery out as it was the only option. Waited a minute, put it back in and switched the phone on.

The phone gets as far as the Sony Ericsson 'Welcome screen' and then rather than going any further the whole screen lights up white for about 5 seconds, then goes black for 5 seconds and then continues to do this until I switch it off again.

It's a k800i. Does anyone have any ideas?

I really don't want to have to buy a new phone this close to Christmas. I've borrowed my friend's Tocco until I can sort out my phone or get another handset. Bah!

Mine did this for a while but I'll be damned if I remember how I fixed it :(

Try leaving it out for longer OR just letting it loop until it's completely flat? :)

Thanks for the advice :)

It wont even switch on now :(

But I've just been told that I can have an early Christmas present. Looks like I'll be getting a Sony Ericsson C902 maybe next week \0/

I'd steer away from the SE stuff, generally loads of problems with their handsets throughout history... Pretty notorious for having general niggly problems and/or hardware problems...

The last 3 or 4 phones I've had have been SE and until now I've never had a problem :)

I did have my eye on the Satio, but the C902 seems like the better choice for what I need from a phone.

I think you've been damn lucky then!

.

Same here but now I am not only having issues with my current phone but my previous SE that I am now using is switching itself off. :( The saying you don't know what you have until it's gone springs to mind.
Fortunetly Fake Snake is posting out a phone to me, Cheers Mate it's Well appreciated as like Tiggy says this close to xmas is No time for added expence.

I had about 5 different SE phones in a row and didn't have a problem with a single one of them. I always wondered where the rumours about instability came from as they were always rock solid for me.

I did have my eye on the Satio

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8377312.stm

Mobile phone retailers Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U have temporarily withdrawn the Sony Ericsson Satio smartphone from their stores.

Both companies said the move followed complaints from customers about software problems.

Is it over a year old? I've had almost all of my phones repaired or replaced for niggly little problems under warranty.

I've had it nearly 2 years now. I'm gutted because there were a few pics on there that weren't on the memory stick. I didn't put them on the memory stick because I had a problem connecting the phone to the lappy and it deleted some of my stuff off my memory stick. The pics were of Toby when he had just been born, first time it was just the 2 of us in the hopsital :'(

But thankfully I uploaded all my pics from the memory stick last week so I've got all of them, but the memorystick should be fine.

I need to ring orange today and find out how many upgrade points I have because I found out lastnight that every time I top up I earn points towards a phone upgrade. Hopefully I'll be able to get the new phone cheaper and I'm hoping to actually have a present to unwrap at Christmas! My hoover died the other week, so my parents have bought me a new one as an early present!

What happens when you connec the phone to your computer and put it in USB Only mode or whatever it's called?

I'd be tempted to backup (if you can) and re-flash the firmware. I did this when I had an issue with my W800i and K800

K750i - awesome, rock solid operation up until the stick died
K800i - awesome, rock solid operation up until the stick died
K850i - horrific heap of crap that I wish I had never owned, would routinely corrupt itself
C902 - average, had been mostly fine right up until deleting my inbox, photos and half my contacts

IMO the K800i was the last good phone SE made.

£10 of top up gets you £1 in your upgrade fund. Mine is sat at £8 currently.

My K800i did exactly that - I got two replaced on the warranty.

To my disgust they would only replace like for like which was rubbish. They wouldn't even downgrade me to a K750i.

I was told I would have to flash the phone, which means you lose everything.

Going back one further the k700 had exactly the same hardware stick fault (how does stay over THREE models!?!). Girlfriends current W900 has known problems that SE admit and might get round to fixing in December!? Satio is know to be crap. Honestly i'm not trying to bash them thats why i didnt go into detail before, but SE do have a reputation for handing out ****. In some cases they release firmware and fix their problems but why weren't these tested and/or made properly to begin with? Beggars belief really... Its not just SE, nokia have done the same thing but the difference is its on occasion, its not 3,4,5 models in succession...

My K800i was fine until it developed a similar flaw to yours - though after multiple taking sim out/refitting and rebooting sessions it did eventually boot up and work fine.

No issues yet with my C902 except it sometimes seems to "forget" the pictures taken on it, and then they randomly reappear a few weeks later.

IMO the K800i was the last good phone SE made.

It's the only SE phone I've had for 2 years, and no-one else I know has had a newer SE since.

But the K800i is a really good phone, when it works properly. I was obviously very lucky going by other experiences of the phone in this thread.

I dropped mine in the bath 3 times last year, and after 24 hours drying time each time, it worked perfectly. How long have they been running the £10 top up for £1 towards a phone? I topped up by about £100 over the summer, and always top up at least £10 a month and have done for the 2 years I've had it.

Tbh, I don't know how to flash it, and I threw the offending cable away a long time ago. I'm going to ask a friend tomorrow if her other half can have a look a it.

Lopez, I've taken it apart and put it back together about 50 times and it's just not doing any good :(

Leperousdust, I can totally see what you are saying. I've been lucky that in the past 10 years I've only had one naff phone and that one was a samsung.

About 8 months I think, I top up £10 a month.

No problems here with my k800i, and no problems with the previous 750i (until it got nicked)

Bah, I was half thinking about the Aino or Satio for my next phone but at least I've got a fair few other options.

I still keep my W880i as a backup phone though as it has been pretty much perfect since I got it, a battery life that lasts for days despite being one of the slimmest phones I've ever owned, decent quality music and I can fit enough on the memory stick to keep me happy. It's probably the last great Sony Ericsson that I've used anyway and one of the few phones where I've not been totally bored of it after 8 or 9 months.

Looks like the new phone is on hold until after Christmas. I've managed to borrow a w910i for now which is soooooo much better than the tocco in my opinion.

The only problem I'm having with it is that because it is a slimmer and smaller phone than my previous one, it's much easier for my son to swipe and hide lol

If you really need a phone then Play have LG and Samsung PAYG for £9.99 and a Nokia for £17.99.

I have an LG and Nokia on order for work demos if you want to know what they are like.

i'v had my 910i for almost a year now and i'v only had 1 problem with it, it randomly decides to freeze, Screen goes blank and red light comes on and you have to take the battery out and stick it back in switch on and it works perfectly, i'v had this phone and my mates gone though about 5 nokias i think it was last i checked, mostly battery problems i think, but my phone has been dropped in a pint the bath and from an upstairs window and it still lives :)
