Evening peeps,
Moving into a new flat soon, I'm in the market for a new tele. I dont have a huge sum of money devoted to this, but want something that is going to last...

I have seen this: http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0060564260.125926727 6@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccchadeimeeldedcflgceggdhhmdfhm.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=655407&category_oid=
Which seems reasonable, and is also availble in 32" option at £375. What are people's opinion on toshiba?
Looking for full HD, reliable, good range of connections and (possibly) up to 37" as much as possible below £500. What advice can the good peeps of BD give me?
Muchos thanks in anticipations!
Moi.

Which I love - bit over what you are looking to spend though I think

I found it a lot of hard work finding a good LCD tv. The model numbers are absolutely key, just one letter difference in the tv name does make the difference between a good and crap screen.

I really like the Toshiba Regza range and managed to get a full 1080p 37" screen for £370 a few months back.

Do have a read around on avforums and have a good shifty in the threads with loads of replies, it's normally a sign for a tv to look out for.

If you are going to buy, get it done before Brown and chums whack another 2.5% on.

I've got a 37" LG HD tv with free view and HDMI connections - beautiful screen, got it for Around £400 6 months or so ago. But I managed to wangle a deal with the salesman who knocked off close to £100 off the price.

Had a bit of a look about for you as I know how much my head hurt when looking at tv's. The Toshiba's seem to be the XV635 -> RV635 with prices to match. There are reviews of Toshiba screens on AVforums, but this thread was useful.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-tv-should-i-buy/1128684-samsung-le32b550-toshiba-37rv635d-alternative-400-pounds.html

The RV635 does not appear to support 24p which may cause jumping / skipping in blu ray. Now how much can the average guy can see really but this is another story. The XV635 probably will but i'll want to check.

This is the thread for the XV635 which appears to be the daddy toshiba set
http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-televisions/1077782-toshiba-xv635-thread.html

Quick price runner on the sets
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/cl/2/TVs?attr_2=2004162&man_id=314&attr_2000000=2006371&attr_40000422=40003437

£500 for a 37" XV635 set at amazon. Not bad considering that prices of LCD tv's went up earlier this year.

Have a good read of the FAQ as that helped me loads.
http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-televisions/222029-frequently-asked-questions-look-here-first.html

One final thing is to get a book/paper and start scribbling stuff as it'll probably take a few weeks to narrow down the search. Then find a shop to have a look at the screen in general (remembering that shops whack the contrast to full and mess with the settings). Using the AVForums you should have a good idea of what sets are considered good / bad. I prefer the Toshiba screens, other people prefer the panasonic plasma's / Samsung tv's. Then go online and get it loads cheaper :D

oo great. this saves me making a thread!

my mum was on about getting a new tv (and sky HD) in January.

how common is FreeSat HD nowadays? i've not looked at any TVs in a long time but if we're looking to go HD properly, might as well look at the freesat HD options i guess :/
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-L37G10B-37-inch-Widescreen-Freesat/dp/B001Z67WK4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1259287249&sr=1-4 looks pretty good

hows freesat HD work btw? is it worth bothering with if you've got sky as it obviously needs a dish, and we'd only have the sky dish?

however... just found this;
http://www.cheap-lcd-tv.co.uk/37_LG_37LG5010_Full_HD_1080p_Digital_Freeview_LCD_ TV_149_d

seems like a ridiculously cheap deal

The LG is cheap because it has input lag issues and is a 2008 screen.
http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-televisions/729612-compilation-all-37-lcd-tvs-2008-models.html

It is actually the same screen as the 37LG5000 which you should find more info on.
http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-tv-should-i-buy/1038576-advice-lg-37lg5000.html

Personally I wouldn't pay £380 on a 2008 screen.

A similar (but 40" screen) is £549 at Currys - Tempting!

Acutally, looking around, the LG 37LH3000 looks kinda tempting (tho it is LG which I know some people on here say to avoid)

I've heard a few bad reviews on the LG screens too. I'm waiting for everyone to bring out their LED backlit models as grey blacks on TV is a real pet hate.

Modern LG screens are actually pretty good, especially the HD ones - I have a 2009 model one, full 1080 and 3 HDMI inputs as well as RGB inputs, and I think SPW would agree it's pretty damn good. Even colour balance, no patchy or dark areas, black contrast ratio is good.

Other TVs worth looking at are Samsung and Panasonic. Avoid Sony as they're way over priced.

It's probably best to point out now that he's made his choice and bought one, well as far as I can tell :p

I don't think he posted on here he got one but has elsewhere so I thought I'd just let everyone know so they don't offer suggestions which he'll just ignore ;D

I wasn't being funny Will :o

What did you go for then? I had a look at LED backlit TVs and I don't think its worth it unless its rows of LEDs across the whole screen as opposed to the edge-lit ones.
