View Full Version : Anyone else have weird food likes/dislikes?
In that you like them in some circumstances, but not others?
I love corn on the cob, but I cant eat tuna with sweetcorn in it.
I love the smell of coffee, but I cant stand the taste.
Ill eat burgers and mince, but not sliced beef or steak.
Anyone else? :D

Thats another, Ill eat oranges and satsumas, but not the mandarins in syrup.
And Ill only eat apple pie with custard. Wont touch them without any sort of cream/dessert :D

freaks the lot of you :p
I used to be like that with tomatoes. I wouldn't eat fresh tomatoes or tomatoes in stuff like spag bol but would eat soup and ketchup.
I now will eat pretty much anything ;D
I love bananas, hate banana ice cream.

Ill eat tomatoes in spag bol, and tomato soup, but fresh and tom sauce makes me heave.

I love mint (sauce, gum etc) and I love chocolate but mint chocolate is just urgh. Also chocolate generally should only be in bar form - don't like chocolate ice cream or hot chocolate or anything like that. Also, 'chocolate' is a very satisfying word to say.
I love bananas, hate banana ice cream.
Same here. It reminds me of banana medicine that I got when I was little. Yuck!
I can't stand baked beans, so much so if they're near anything that I might eat I freak out and the thought of touching them makes me heave! :o
I don't like brown sauce but I'll eat with french toast.
Nah. None what so ever ;)
Nah. None what so ever ;)
Hahahaha!
I like tomato soup and tomatoes cooked into something but can't abide fresh tomatoes.

Hahahaha!
I like tomato soup and tomatoes cooked into something but can't abide fresh tomatoes.
AND you like Peshwari Naan but not coconut.
I don't like nuts, but will eat them if they are tiny and in stuff.
I love gherkins with ketchup :D
Fresh orange juice, but not oranges.
Grapes but never grape juice.
Bananas on their own but never with anything.
Oats with cold milk, never warm.
Tomato sauce on chips/fries/potato wedges. Never anything else.
Bacon sandwiches must have brown sauce. No brown sauce, no sandwich, no compromise. See above rule on tomato sauce.
Apples, never apple juice (looks way too much like urine)
As mentioned in the lime pickle thread, although I could eat them I'm adverse to eating things in seemingly acceptable combos that in my mind don't go together. Tuna and sweetcorn is one, whole pieces of fruit in anything savoury (mostly coronation chicken to blame here) is another. Pineapple is an exception for me, I'll eat it in anything - on a pizza, in sweet and sour sauce etc.
Can't stand the taste of celery, either raw or cooked, but if it's blended into a sauce with other stuff it tends to pass unnoticed.
That's about it. If you asked me outright what foods I refuse to eat though, only celery would make the list. It can **** right off.

Ditto that.
Pineapple is another for me too. Will eat pineapple chunks in syrup from a can, but put it on a pizza, Ill send the ****er back. Or smack Daz round the face with it.
I can't eat green or yellow sweets. Makes me nervous and I think I'm going to choke!
I love coffee but HATE coffee flavoured things. Same with chocolate. I love chocolate but don't really go a bundle on chocolate flavoured things. Weird.
Love strawberry flavour but hate strawberries!
Love strawberry flavour but hate strawberries!
I'm the opposite, love strawberries but hate strawberry 'flavour' eeuurrgghhh :/
Not keen on normal fruit unless it's in a pudding or main course then they become great. Not that I dislike them, I just don't really enjoy them. However things like pineapple and kiwi can ea all day long.
Love strawberry flavour but hate strawberries!
But, but that means you don't eat one of the best foods known to man..

I love the start of strawberry season. Go pick your own, light a BBQ then that for afters..

Same as Kitten, I dont like eating strawberries themselves, but love strawberry flavoured stuff. I think its because I have no sense of smell, and therefore very little sense of taste, so I base most of my likes/dislikes on texture because its the only thing I get out of food. I dont like the texture of strawberries when you eat a whole one.
I also dont enjoy sandwiches in the same way as I do if my sandwich has crisps in with the filling.
I like tomato soup and tomatoes cooked into something but can't abide fresh tomatoes.
I love fresh tomatoes, will accept tomatoes cooked into something so long as it's not too obvious (e.g. pizza is fine), but steer well away from cooked tomatoes on their own and tomato soup is just urgh. :(
I used to love raw carrots but threw a major hissy fit if I was served cooked carrots. I'm now happy eating either (though still prefer raw).

Dear GOD that cake looks good!!!!
Like yorkshire puds but don't like pancakes even though they're basically the same ingredients.
Hate the taste of tomato so if its cooked into something I'm fine. I loath the texture of raw tomato and can't even touch it (rats get cherry tomatoes but thats because I don't actually have to cut them up or anything)
ADORE celery (as some people at Piggys party might remember :o )
Odd combo sandwich - marmalade and sliced banana on white bread - very rare I have it; as much as I enjoy it I always end up crying (t'was my dads comfort food)
Currently trying to ignore that cake photo as it looks delicious!!!

Don't ignore it, embrace it. It's Incredibly easy to make.

Tomatoes are fine when squashed into a purée for pizza, but that's about it.
A really weird thing is that I'm not keen on ketchup or mustard but I don't mind them in a McDonalds burger.
I love the smell of fried onions, but I can't stand the texture of them.
But, but that means you don't eat one of the best foods known to man..

That would just make me hurl. I see nothing good in that at all :(
i like pretty much everything.
i've even eaten goose feet... well only one... but chicken feet scare me.

Same for everything you've said, apart from pineapple. I don't like that with anything savory either, although I absolutely love fresh pineapple.
I will eat sweet & sour if pushed, but I don't enjoy it at all. My Mum's lamb tagine is lovely, but she puts whole apricots in it and ruins it! :(
I don't like mint flavoured chocolate (After Eights are OK because the mint and choc are separate) or orange flavoured chocolate (again, Jaffa Cakes are OK because the jaffa and chocolate are separate).
Nope - you name it i'll eat it :p
Can't stand raw tomato in any form but I love it cooked. Unless it's whole or too chunky, then I don't like it cooked either :D

James loves orange juice...but not if it has bits!!!
Oh I LOVE orange juice with bits!
Princess Griff

Me too!!! But Im not allowed to buy it now!!! :(
I sieve the bits out, throw the juice away and mould the bits into a tasty orange ball of flesh.

Bits are evil. Turn a nice refreshing orange juice into a drink that tastes like slime. I'm 100% with Jing on this important issue.
I hate orange juice. It makes my tummy hurt :(
I don't really like pineapple on pizza, but I'll eat it any other way. Other than that, not really.
Love the smell of coffee and love coffee chocolates but can't stand the drink.
Will eat spaghetti but can't stand beans.
Will tomato ketchup, puree and tomatoes that have been cooked in food but don't like fresh tomatoes.
I can't think of weird things... but
Tomato juice is wrong. Tomato is something you have in salads or with pasta.
Carrot cake is wrong too... carrot is a vegetable, not a sweet thing. :p
Jaffa cakes are yuk, but seem to like terry's choc orange :/
BB x
I can't think of weird things...
What about your allergy to eggs which doesn't include all things eggy :p
I don't mind bits in orange juice, but it's much better without. :)
Carrot cake is nom! Jaffa cakes are nom! With you on tomato juice, however.
What about your allergy to eggs which doesn't include all things eggy :p
:o
Yes allergic to egg in its typical form: poached, fried, scrambled, mashed, boiled, omelette.... chicken and sweetcorn soup when i can see the egg in it, egg fried rice (gets picked out).
Cakes, meringues, cheesecakes and egg custard tarts are alll fine tho! :D
Thanks Sam ;)

BBx will hate me for this...
Although they may as well be the same mix of stuffs, I love Yorkie puds, but hate crepes and pancakes.

That's because he is a class 1 penis. Orange juice should have bits in it.

No no no no no !! . Orange Juice with bits in it IS the PUKE ! :puke:

Minus one point BBx
Orange Juice should NOT have bits in it

Hehe I was just thinking that :D
I saw an egg free mayo on Saturday at the Good Food show which reminded me of Mei Mei :)

As long as Daz promises not to bring any pink with him ;D
Cucumber. Revolting. Can't stand it, won't eat anything with it in, if you take it out of a salad or sandwich you can still taste/smell it. Can't even drink Pimms 'cause they put cucumber in it.
*Shudders*
Edit: Oh wait, I don't like cucumber in anything! Nevermind.
Cucumber nom! Spesh when its chopped into little cubes and mixed into tuna mayo.
Cooking onion used raw in things like sandwiches is pretty grim. I don't mind raw onion in salad and sandwiches as long as it is sweet or mild red onion. It seems our canteen thinks 'onion is just onion isn't it', they think I am odd if I ask what kind it is before asking for any. Mind you they think I'm odd for wanting to know what sort of fish is in the fishcakes (I am very suspicious of fishcakes when they don't even know what kind of fish is in them, especially when they have had them themselves!).
Man, I absolutely love raw onion and I would ea it mos days. if it was for the fact it makes your sweat smell and leaves a horrible taste in your mouth the next mourning/day.

Word!
The only use for celery is as an aphrodisiac. And that's only if you use it as splints ;)
Apart from celery, I just really dislike offal - kidneys, heart, liver, tripe - that sort of stuff.
