anyone rent/got a lockup/garage?

does anyone rent a lockup/garage for their car it looks like my mates going to move in with me in the new year. which means rather than get a house with a garage I could probably get a lockup/garage which might be better deal?
Other than rent/power, I take it there's no other bills.
Also how many spare meters around eh car do you think you need for tools, storage and working space?

It's 5.2m x 2m

Was thinking a meter all round to work + 2meters a side for storage and tools or 4 meters one side for the same so around:
9m x 6m, 30ft x 20ft

do you think that's enough space, do you think I could get away with less. Seen one place advertised online which is 25ftx15ft which I think would be a bit small.

Also anyone know any good sites to look for such places?

30 x 20 is massive, I don't think you'll find one that big. My garage is about 8-10ft wide and quite long at about 25ft. As single garages go mine is pretty big.

found one 25x15. I'm looking a anything really lock-ups, workshops farm warehouse type places. Basically anything that might be suitable. Although a lot say no car restores. Also seen a double garage but it doesn't appear you can contact the owner, stupid gay websites.

I started renting a lockup a few monts back but nothing anywhere near that big. Mine is basically big enough to keep a car in plus storage of a few of the bigger things that get in the way at the home garage (Spare doors, seats and wheels basically)

Sounds like you're looking for more of a workshop.

Agreed. Lockup is exactly that - somewhere to lock things up (usually your car). I could (and nearly did) offer to rent out my garage as a lockup.

If you're prepared to spend that kind of money then one option might be take a quick drive around any local industrial estates. There's a lot of empty units around our way at the moment with things the way they are and I'd have thought you'd be able to find one where the owner would rather get a couple of hundred a month than have it sitting empty making them no money. Might mean that you'll potentially have to move on at short notice if they find someone willing to pay full whack but you never know.

Moving out isn't really going to be an option as I want to strip it totally down.

atm I pay 550rent. I was goign to up that to £600 to get a house with a garage on my own. Now that it looks like my mate will move in. He doesn't want to spend more than £300.

So that leaves a few options, get a £600 place and a separate place or up that to around the £750-£800 mark and get a place with a garage and driveway. But obviusley it won't fit in a normal garage.
If I went with a £600 place and a separate workshop. Even at £200 I would be saving £50 on what my rent is at the moment. And bills will be cut in half on top of that.


There's no tax or anything for just having a building is there?
