View Full Version : Snow!
I had a few hairy moment this morning. :( I'm dreading the journey home tonight, I've had enough of the close calls.
It snowed again! Quite glad I am off this week, I will tackle taking snow off the car tomorrow. Went for a wee stroll this morning, it was quite nice... though the tops of my legs and my nose were frozen by the time I got home! Took a few snaps but didn't really take anything flashy and clever as it was -6 and I couldn't be bothered messing about lol (I'm such a wuss)

Some beautiful shots there none-the-less, especially that robin.
some beautiful shots there Mubs.
..and just when you think the snow is starting to melt more snow comes along. Not that I was going but the Inverness street party has been cancelled. Not surprised, the snow is pretty steady and set to get heavier before the night is out. I just don't like negotiating the car up the alleyway to get to the car park, not much room for mistakes when it's slippy......

I got a call from work this morning... don't come in!! :party2: SNOW DAY!!! First time in five years the school has closed due to weather conditions!
Be careful out there guys and girlies!
Aye going to be fun today :( Good couple of inches in Manc and coming down fast.
edit:- Having another look outside I'm going to hold off coming in for a few moments. The snow is upto the bumper on the Omega (it's a low car) already, not good. Looking at the roads the M60, M6 all are stuffed with snow so even going down the M56 is going to be hell (if I get there).
Guess what idiot left their phone at work yesterday as well! Going to have to email in as I have no other phone (what a prat)

My sister is about to attempt travelling from Liverpool to Manchester!! eek :/
Ah, well I've checked the cameras on the motorways and the M56 seems unusually clear. I think it is just the side roads that have had it. From looking at the images of the road I'm going to give it a go.
Spent about an hour clearing the snow off the car at which point it started snowing heavily again. I do have snow socks for the motor but my view is they are emergency equipment to get me home, not routine getting to work :)
The snow was as deep as my hand (about 15cm) at a guess. This puts it just below the front splitter on the Omega. When it started coming down thick again I said sod it and I now have a nice cuppa after chatting with the neighbours. None of the others in the office made it in from Manc so I do feel better for that.
Word of warning, another 10-12cm expected in Manc tonight. Very little chance of me getting in tomorrow either :(

We still have about a foot of snow, had a covering since before christmas. I'm sick of snow now.

Kitten that looks fab!!!!!!!!! I want snow!!!!!!!!!!! I want to make snow angels!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can see bits of blue sky :/ A few visitors have said its meant to snow tonight but looking at it I think it'll just be sleet if anything :(

oh dammit you tease :p the sun just came out here :(
When I woke up this morning there was about 2 inches of snow on the ground at home and it was snowing. On the drive to work the falling snow got lighter and lighter. When I got about 5 miles from the office it stopped completely and there has been no snow at all at the office.
Snow? What snow? We've got a sprinkling of dandruff here!!!!!!!!!
Nothing here but ice :( boooooooo!

Wow Tracy those photos are amazing! :D
There is about an inch to two here. Should be snowing more later on tonight. Thankfully I have had news that I will be working inside for a few days, so I don't have to work in it. I think I would refuse to be honest, was sliding on just an inch in the car. Not good
oh dammit you tease :p the sun just came out here :(
The met office early warning thing is showing red for a large area including Portsmouth. It very rarely goes red anywhere so if you get some you could well be getting plenty:
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/se_forecast_warnings.html
Not really much going on here though, still got some on the ground from the inch or 2 we had Saturday evening but nothing new.
Ooo that warning was only orange when I looked earlier and said rain and sleet for tonight and snow for tomorrow.
Mic wants it to wait until after he gets home from work so he doesn't have to drive in it.
It's interesting that there's a severe red warning where there is as yet no snow, but where we are, with 6-10 inches of snow, it's a yellow 'be aware' ;D

Yup! Although make that the South East.
Weather reports for Wales and the South West seem to be awful lately, not helped by the fact I live where the weatherman's hand is always covering up :p
We had loads of snow (for us) coming down for an hour or so this morning which looked like it'd last a while. Really big snow flakes too :D But annoyingly the sun came out and it's started melting :(
ours is still coming down fast. Stopped for about an hour at around 11am - well, became a lot lighter. Still constant now and heavy now, there's been 6-8 inches on the bin since we wiped it down this morning, so lord knows what it will be like when the frost kicks in!

Still coming down super heavy in Liverpool. I got sent home from work at around 12:30 with instructions to listen to the radio in the morning regarding whether the school will be open or not. When I walked into the house I jumped around and left pretty deep footprints. A couple of hours later and now it looks like no-one has walked in our driveway all day! I love it :D
Although it snowed pretty much all morning, it was teeny little flakes so not made much difference. Expecting more overnight so will be keeping my eye on the college website and e mails before I set off in the morning!

.......and it's just hit here again. Wondering what work will have to say about this? I can see myself being snowed in for a few days like this, been off for 3 weeks for xmas ::/: I hope they won't force me to take it as holiday as that really would suck.
Oh FFS why are people so bloody thoughtless? The parking for the flats is on land at the back of the flats. No designated space but everyone parks in the same place 90% of the time. Obviously with all this snow everyone has been parking in the same place (far easier getting into and out of a space that is the right size for your car and is free of snow and ice). All has been well for the last 2 weeks, lo and behold first normal working day and I come back to find someone has parked in my space. One of the couples in the flats own a florist and their employee who can't park for toffee has parked the skinny ass delivery van where I normally do. Now I've had to park where they were parked but I'm now parked on ice becuase my car is much longer and wider than theirs.
I would go round and say something but I don't want to seem like I'm being petty. It's ******* annoying though.

Blizzards all day today :( Settling on even all the main roads so work head-honcho came round and suggested anyone that didn't need to be in should consider heading home - 5 mins before I was finishing anyway but good for the 5pm finishers. I would love a snow day tomorrow but since I'm generally in before my boss even wakes I'd be there by the time I got the call :numpty:
Nope thats them parked up for the night *grumps*

And this!
A snow day would be lovely tomorrow, but I can't see it somehow!
**** me that was the scariest time I've had driving. The sheer number of cars left at the side of the road was scary. Every route to the tunnel was blocked by traffic. Busses had been abandoned in the middle of the road too. Every other car was wheel spinning or being pushed to safety. The big reason for all this chaos is that the council has no grit and its bloody obvious when you're out there. Theres not one single road in Liverpool thats been gritted. The entire city has iced over and its not fun driving on.
I've had to park the car at the top of the hill by my gf's for two reasons. Firstly we'll never get it back up tomorrow morning. Secondly at the end of the hill is a railing and on the other side is the Mersey. Had a scare this morning trying to get up it when the handbrake failed to stop the car moving. So we've left it at the top.
I've never seen such chaos.

Sort of funny for all the wrong reasons.
You're right it's damned scary, I've confirmed my car definitely does not have ABS and I am definitely not good at driving on an ice rink.
Drive safe everyone, with any luck a good foot or so will mean none of us will have to leave the house?
Really do feel for you Johnny with no side windows in that thing!
That is my worst fear Pete with the Omega. RWD + sheet ice (underneath) + freshly compacted & now ice ontop = bad. First fun is getting out of Manchester and then its going along the motorway where even the gritters were getting stuck. Glad you got home safe, even if it was hair raising!
I've been in touch with a chap who lives in Manc who also works with me..... I have a feeling we are both going to stay at home tomorrow. If I worked closer to the office I would whack the snow covers on and drive in, but 25 miles out :( We'll see.

James, you sure about no ABS? I would have thought yours would have it!
You would really (Feb 02 Focus for anyone wondering). Except there is no ABS light, the fuse for ABS is strangely absent, and it doesn't handle on snow/ice as I've heard it's meant to (no vibration to indicate it either).
Good inch or more of snow fell overnight, definiately a walking day. Be interesting to see how many people make it in.
As of an hour ago all buses in portsmouth are suspended ... this isn't useful ...
I thought that ABS on snow and ice was more hinderance than helpful?
Looks like we got 1/4" overnight. Oh well, off to west london where they were threatened a foot :p

Just waiting on a phone call form my dad to tell me what the main roads are like, although saying that, if I can't even get out of my estate...
Text my manager (who is stuck in Soton atm); I said I could try walking but it would take an hour or 2 and she said not to try. I rang one of the people at work and he said he is heading in (he only lives round the corner) because he needs to negotiate with the people doing the course so that we don't get charged again. I need to do the course as part of my job so it will have to just get rearranged.

We had a few inches this morning. It's quite well covered and thick. Lovely. It's so pretty and wonderful. I heart snow muchly. What's even better is it means it takes 1/2 the time to get to work as there is nobody on the road. Central London is snow free though so all is good for work.

Kelly, stop feeling guilty that you can't make it into work. You have tried your best, you have contacted more people than you needed to. I don't see how you can be in trouble for not being able to get in because of the weather. It isn't your fault.
Don't worry about it Kelly. Though I know how you feel, I felt the same last year (2nd Feb) when I was snowed in. The worse they can do is make you take it as a holiday or unpaid leave. It's not a sackable offence at all. :)

Turns out that the biggest delay I had getting into work wasn't the snow but a broken rail on the central line! Despite the hold up I was only 25 minutes late (although technically I can't be late :p)...
Boss hasn't made it in, contract manager hasn't made it in, which leaves me in charge :)
Unfortunately there is more snow forecast later on so I'll need to make a decision about whether or not to suspend tonight's service...

Rang up work and was told to attempt it even though there was a crash near the school just down the road involving a bus and a car so traffic wasn't moving and the other way, nobody could get up the slight hill. There is another way but I'm loathe to trying it as it's a nightmare at the best of times let alone with this. About 30 minutes figured I'd best at least make the effort, turns out I can't even get my car out of the car park without hitting something thanks to the slope and 3" of snow :(
Was then told by my boss to try and get rid of some of the snow from behind the car and put some table salt down  still can't move so it looks like a snow day for me then.

My bit of fun will be time booking at the end of the week, what I put it to. Depending on what they say will have an effect on the next time they ask me to stay late 1. I'll do it no problem or 2. I'll remind them of what they said on this occasion and say no. It's all give and take.

We had a little bit here this morning so I went to work which is about 20mins away.
Got to work and my boss said they were going to keep an eye on it as it was really coming down there, 45 mins later it's not backing off so he sent us home.
I got stuck on the farm track into work .. TWICE and it took me over an hour to get home whilst slipping and sliding all over the shop ;D
Jamie can take the beemer into work tomorrow .. bloody thing :p
Gf was told that the office was open and trains were running so we made the trek back to Liverpool. Good planning leaving the car at the top of the hill. There's been a bit of gritting on random roads on the Wirral. Drove to train station. Abandoned car and got the train to L'pool. Appears to be no gritting what so ever in Liverpool. Pavements are really bad. Took me an hour to do a 20 min walk. Its so quiet out there. Hardly any traffic or people. I'm glad I went out yesterday and got all the shots I needed. Its so bad now.

My boss is my dad ;) the thing is, most of the main roads are fine and if I could get off my estate it would be fine, I think it mainly just ideas to see if I could move.
Some people do get genuinely 'stranded' at home, and why risk banging your car up just to get to work? Seems a bit crazy to roll up at the office (late) and have a cracked bumper and missing headlights just so you can boast that you made it in. Good for you, but you blatantly shouldn't have driven here you tit.
However they often get tarred with the same brush as people who get a dusting of snow and declare that they can't come in. Just an overblown excuse to stop in try to continue the xmas holiday in many cases I suspect.

I was forced to put this coat on him! :o
The weather here is strange of late. I woke up at 6:30, opened the bedroom curtains there was at most a very light dusting of snow on the ground so I got ready for work and headed off.
About half way there I started seeing snow settled on the ground but the roads were perfectly clear. About 3/4 of the way there it got very, very heavy - lots of snow on the road and cars slipping and sliding all over the place. It's a windy single carriageway at this point and turning the car around wasn't an option so I carried on to the office.
When I got there there were 3 other cars there and 4 people inside. I told everyone to pack up and sod off home. Then I followed my own advise.
On the way home I went to see my parents who are only about 12 miles from my house and there was plenty of snow on the ground there. As I was finishing a cuppa the snow started falling again so I decided to head off. About 6 miles from home a blizzard started and I could barely see where I was going. Then about a mile later it stopped and there was just a light dusting of snow on the ground.
I'm back home now and it's the same as when I left for work - just a light dusting.
I was meant to be at Heathrow tonight for a meeting then in Wokingham tomorrow but I'm pleased that's all been cancelled.
My boss is my dad ;) the thing is, most of the main roads are fine and if I could get off my estate it would be fine, I think it mainly just ideas to see if I could move.
lol, sorry about that :D I read it as you called in and then your boss started kicking off, bit different when it's your dad :D
It's actually been clear all day although the snow hasn't budged. Hopefully work will see sense about me though as the two heroes down my road made it in. The difference is if they have to abandon the car, they could walk back.... whereas I can't in the snow. I'll see how the land lies when I head in tomorrow (if no more snow comes down).
Yeah I think you have slightly more reason not to go out in the snow Matt!

Fanks, he was physically unable to walk in it, due to the snow being higher than the top of his legs! He jumped a lot instead, and then came home with very cold feet, climbed into his blanket where he still is.

So it turns out that my dad is now pissed with me for not going in  my mum is now having a go at him for it. I honestly tried to get in but when you can't move in a straight line what's the point? Just walked to the local Co-op to pick up some stuff and every road near me is an ice rink. Just saw 2 people stuck trying to get up a hill, which is one of the only ways out :( My dad is now talking about picking me up tomorrow, good luck with that Mr ass-hat

One of the directors here remarked that people should make every possible effort to get in even if it takes them 3 hours.
I remarked was being able to do a couple of hours work worth risking their and others lives and he went quiet and vanished. Snowing all morning here, no sign of being able to leave early yet, my boss kindly said I could leave at 5pm after I got in at 7:55am.
Hasn't snowed here in a while, it's been sunshine since about 11am. There's a chance of more snow tonight though.

Predicted a balmy 21 here. Unfortunately no trade winds and haven't had any for about 5 days, so we're also suffering from Vog. Vog = Volcanic Fog, lots of sulfur dioxide. Net result is I've got a dodgy throat and ending most days with headaches. Causes interesting respiratory and allergy reactions in most folks here, though usually not serious.

We've been told in as many words to make as little effort as possible to come in but to take work home with us. I'm all set up here already with all my work surrounding me and spent most of the day in the library hatching plans how to stop global warming ;D
Second day on a new job and I couldn't make it in!! I felt well bad. Proper like. They asked me to make a load of phonecalls and things from home so have been working all of today really (although only getting a half day pay).
Apparently no more snow here now but am worried it's going to freeze up and become an ice rink... eak!
How embarrassing though! Not the impression I wanted to give!
I feel better now. Got home and there's about 4" now. Seems very random where it's fallen, a workmate who went down to croydon said there was a few inches, yet when I went to South Norwood, not that far from Croydon, there was only an inch or so
Stopped off at Em's on the way home, and sat with my foot on the brakes at the top of a hill (the handbrake was totally innefective, as soon as I let my foot off the brakes the van started sliding ) while I waited for the 4 or 5 buses to finish snaking their way down. Felt a bit sorry for the drivers and passengers ;D

You could be calling it kinda damp here today.
Back in 1981, it snowed really heavily and deep for the same reasons it currently is, and the only way mum could get around was to have my sister and I sitting on this huge old sled my grandfather had made, with me in my pram seat that she'd strapped to the sled (and me strapped tot he seat) with my sister sitting on the front. I was 1 at the time, my sis was 3. The sled was designed to take up to two adults, and has nice wide tread on it so it's stable as a rock. Ideal for taking little kids sledding with parents.
Turns out my parents still have that old sled, so today mum and my sister took my 9 month old niece out fairly wide tread so it's stable as a rock, strapped to the sled in her detachable high-chair :)

it's getting a bit tiresome now. Shop has run out of bread and we STILL can't move the car!
Banbury has ground to a halt, we've had about 6-7", the buses aren't running up the hill to our estate, the roads are all compacted ice, even the main ones. And everyone is panic-buying, both the shops near us have sold out of bread and milk...

As people will have seen on my Facebook/Twitter, my school has officially closed for the rest of the week. Considering how icy it's now becoming I'm not surprised, there's not enough grit in our school to clear it all, so we just have to hope the weather improves to clear it all over the weekend. You won't find me complaining though, a free week off work \o/

Flour (700g), butter (35g), water (420ml), yeast (8ml), sugar (15ml), salt (8ml) :) Sorted. Well, milk is a little harder.
Looks like no snow overnight but it's reporting a temp of -7C with wind chill to -12C so a risk of ice.
Still no buses in Portsmouth due to roads being solid ice. Have text my manager to tell her - Mic has offered to try and drive me in but not sure if I'll even let him try.
It was an interesting day yesterday, no extra snow until 06:25 when the skies opened. I left at 06:30 and the roads were already covered. There are some temp traffic lights in the village and in the time it took for the lights to go from red to green, the tracks from the car in front had vanished. I called the boss (who I car share with) and he was incredulous as there was none in Colchester at all.
The first roundabout I came to, I nearly lost it and I was doing just 12 mph. At the second one I was more cautious and slower and the back end just kept going and I ended up nose into the roundabout itself. I was doing 7 mph.
It took me nearly an hour to get to Colchester, the snow followed me. Once we hit the A12 it was fine and we made it to work on time.
It snowed pretty much all day, we had an announcement that those who lived a distance away could leave early but I had far too much to do so didn't get away until about half past five.
It was perhaps the best journey out of work we've ever had! Brentwood was clear of traffic, the A12 was empty and Colchester was totally devoid of vehicles. I reckon that most of the country had gone home early. The magic roundabout in Colchester had one car on it. Me.
Heading back this was wasn't so good. Going up the hill along the dual carriageway out of Colchester was poor, only one lane was clear and the other was completely snow covered. It was the same all the way back home and there's still 3-4 inches of frozen snow outside here. It's -5.4 at the moment, the lowest I've ever seen here.
The outpipes from our basin and bath upstairs were frozen this morning, I've treated them with warm water and they're now clear.
I'm not leaving to go to work just yet, I'm going to wait until it's warmed up a bit. The main roads were crap yesterday and with this low temperature they're going to be skating rinks.

Im going to try and get to work this morning, Mum made it to the local health centre (she had to try and get to her nearest one for work) so I know the roads were passable yesterday, and once I get to the main road they will have gritted it, so I shall just take it steady.
Well manager has said only to head in if it is safe so I'm sat here waiting for the buses to update their service status. When/if I do go to work, I'll be taking it as a casual day as there is no way I'm going outside in anything less that a dozen layers of clothing :p
Going to walk back up the hill in a bit to the car and see whats what. Gf has been told to make it in for normal time. Big question is do I attempt to drive there or get the train and then spend an hour walking across town on ice. Not entirely sure which is safer. I thought the roads were getting better last night as I walked to the station. I walked in the road as it was safer than the pavement. However roads I walked in are now closed according to traffic info. Thats a little odd and worrying. To get to mine I have to go up a hill so I have to hope its been gritted. Apparently major roads have been gritted and mine imho is major but who knows.

I've given up and accepted the snow. Set my alarm to go in but I can see from the window that the snow is higher on the tires than yesterday so why bother. I'll see if I can borrow a shovel again later on to try and remove all the snow around my car, then if it doesn't come down heavy again today I've got half a chance of making it tomorrow.
I'm staying at home today. Whilst there is very little snow here I'm told that near to the office it is very heavy. I don't know if the office has actually been closed or not but my lot have been instructed to work from home.
Buses are slowly starting up - 8 buses covering 4 routes atm. Gonna give it until 9-9:30 and then venture out; would much rather go back to bed as I didn't sleep well and have a pounding head.
still love the snow
Had our worst snow of the year so far today. Probably a good 3-4" on the ground and it's still coming down. 370 schools closed in Norfolk (Although where Vix works is open) and yet my work has a full car park and is carrying on as normal.
It's snowing here again now, I'm logged on and I'll probably not go out at all. I can work, albeit slower than if I'm in the office, but at least I'm able to do something.

The map you see below is my journey home from college.
We shut the college yesterday at around 4pm as the snow went from light to blizzard in the space of 10 minutes we already had about a cm on the ground. It took me 20 minutes to get out of the car park by which time it was about 3cm thick and slippery as hell, we had to get over 100 cars out on to a main road so it was a struggle.
To get to where the little circle is on the route below took about an hour, a journey of about 7 minutes usually on dual carridgeways. From there I was stuck in the car for 2 hours until I got to where it says Walderslade, cars couldn't get up the exit ramp and ones that did were slithering back down it and sliding into the cars below causing multiple small RTAs. The snow had slowed a lot and eventually I got off the motorway to be faced with the fact the A229 was shut. The A229 is the main artery between Maidstone and Medway, if its shut its down to back roads, its partner artery Detling Hill was also shut so a detour wasn't on the cards. At this point I had according to my on board computer 8 miles of petrol left. If I stayed in the car I would run out, cause further traffic problems and have to walk somewhere warm.
I finally decided to try and get to the local Holiday Inn and after queueing for a good while I got the last but one room 5 miles from home for £80 :/
Went to Asda nearby to get provisions and saw an artic spinning all its driving wheels and sliding sideways and backward on pack ice on a gradient leading up to the motorway.
This morning I struck out and had a pretty uneventfull journey home, the college is shut and I'm staying here, got some fuel too, car read -7 celcius before I started moving.
To be honest despite the expense I'm glad I stopped someone I know was stuck on the A229 for 6 hours waiting for it to clear and the sight of that lorry made my blood run cold, I would not have wanted to be behind it when it was slipping!

Home safe now and Aitch managed to get a train into London so by the time I was back she was already gone :(
MB
Fantastic journey into work today. Roads were empty, my gritting had worked, and lots of fun to be had on the roads ;)
Everyone's made it in at work which is good, but everyone had accepted that if they couldn't come in they wouldn't get paid/or have to take a day's holiday (either paid or unpaid). Really impressed with people's commitment to get into work - thought public transport is working, and we have a few 4x4s with drivers ready to pick people up in the tougher areas, so no excuses really.
I still love the snow. The ice isn't so fun, and the people that don't know how to drive on the snow/icy conditions isn't so great either - but it's all good, pretty and lovely! :D Now all I need in my part of the world are chair lifts and we could start having REAL fun! :D
Sounds like some of you have had nightmare journeys! :( Hope it all clears up for you today and remember to stay safe. Better to lose a day at work than to try and do something silly. MB, can't believe how harsh your drive home was :( It's rubbish that they didn't prepare the roads better - they knew it was coming - they knew for over a week! :/ Still, at least you didn't have any issues, apart from the cost and you got somewhere warm and safe.
Sounds like a right bummer of a journey MB :(
I made it in without too many problems this morning. Took me 3 attempts to reverse off the driveway this morning and a few slippy slides on the way in but nothing major.
Ouch MB. Thats crazy. I keep seeing cars wheel spinning on my road. Everyones like "Car no move. POWARRR!!!!" and yet the car doesn't move. Got in fine today. Major roads have been gritted. Oddly only one lane coming out the tunnel was. Had a slight issue where one road took me by surprise and the back end went off sightseeing. Other than that the major roads in Liverpool city centre are ok.
Nipped to the petrol station to get more anti-freeze and de-icer. I just got the last anti-freeze. Someone came in, saw there was none and bought about 6 bottles (all that was left) of screen cleaner fluid. Its getting a bit crazy.
Got out of my car park fine this morning thanks to no more snow falling but it took me 4 attempts to get up a slight incline. It then took me 10 minutes to get from my car park to the centre of the village, a journey that should take only 3 minutes at the most. It also took me 1 hour to get to work, a journey that should tkae 20 minutes at the most.
Red dot is where the entrance to my car park is (it's not a building site now ;) ) blue dot is the centre of the village and the black line is the route I took:

Lady Gaga writes her own music and music for a crap load of other artists/talentless musicians/people that can mime into a mic (whatever you want to call them), don't be laying into the Gaga :p
It's because she's got a poker face :D
My site have shut for the day, so we all got sent home.
We now have two snowmen in the garden...

They look rather dapper Mr Feek :D
Just heard that an email went round all of the Sales teams and NOT Back office (i.e me) that we could have left at 415 yesterday and come in dressdown today.
We were deliberately left off of it :/ came from the CEO and ended with:
"These days are sent to test our commitment so see you in the morning."
Nice huh?
BB x
They look great Feek :D
I just have to say whoever is running the First Hampshire facebook page has been great - they've made regular updates as well as answering individual questions - its been so useful :)

Quelle surprise... I am in trouble at work! Because I didn't walk over an hour in the snow or spend hours trying to get 3 buses I would need to get to work it was "unacceptable" and I'll be having a meeting with HR when I get back. I just told them on the phone if I can't get hold of a shovel to literally dig myself out then I can't get in, not that I'm feeling inspired to make much of an effort

Bummer Kell that stinks
The heating in the office packed up at half 10 this morning, so at 3pm the boss let the 4 of us that had made it in go home early.
FFS thats not on Kelly. Police here have been telling the press to tell people to stay inside as its too dangerous to be out on the roads. Clearly you've got extenuating circumstances.

Before I moved departments I went in with full blown flu to open the lines until someone came in and could take over, I worked for 2 months with tooth-ache with the only day taken off being the day I was in hospital with it and they've kicking off when half the country is in the same boat as me? Charming. Argggggggg! I hope I can calm down before I talk to them because this has really p***ed me off!
Tossers :(
I had another nice easy day. A broken down car in the nearside lane of the M25 in the A12/M11 roadworks at 7:30am on a weekday would normally mean queues back to the dartford tunnel (no exageration!) but only dipped down to 40 because there was a HATO walking around, didn't want to spray him too much
And I don't think I have EVER not had to stop on the M11 approaching the A406 junction during the am rush
Long live the snow!

Managed to finally arrange a lift in tomorrow! Poor Lee is having to go out of his way to pick me up bless him, but at least it means I only have to get to the main road out of the estate. Might still have a bit of a walk back but at least that's on the way home so I can take my time.
Quite openly surprised by my work. If you talk it through with your line manager you can have a special circumstance holiday. While it may cost the company a day, if you look at the bigger picture at the moment....
If they piss off the staff, the next time you ask someone to work late or help meet a deadline by staying at a weekend, what would they say?
I wouldn't want to be in Cap Gemini at the moment, they have said they are not paying staff. That's going to be a bucket load of people working to hours and not doing the company any favours. Just doing that will cost them a lot more money!
That's something my company needs to understand. Not so much with the weather but they do have a habit of pissing the troops off...
My evening lessons were cancelled last night, but open as usual today. We had about 1/2 an inch overnight, but seemed ok this morning. However since 9am, it's been snowing really heavily!
I said they should have called it Gaga (bonus points if anyone can say why).
Only just worked it out after seeing the other one :o
Just had an e mail from the principal
'It is going to snow all day but we are staying open'.
Thanks :/

We had another 4 or 5cm overnight on already frozen roads, everything looks lovely again but with the current forcasts for the weekend (heavy snow for a few hours tonight) I am thinking that I still might not be able to get to work early next week!

IT'S SNOWING :D :D :D :D :D
We built a snowman this morning :)
http://www.finkydink.co.uk/albums/userpics/snowman10.jpg
He has suspension 'arms', nuts for buttons, a piece of hose mouth, a hosepipe nozzle nose, washers and bolts for eyes and a funnel hat.
Snowed heavily on Thursday so ended up turning back home on the way into work. M2 was down to one lane almost at that point.
Snowed heavily again Friday. Didn't even bother to make an attempt to get in. Turned out the M2 and A2 near us were either blocked and/or down to very low visibility due to the blizzard type conditions.
Cleared the cars both on Thursday and Friday of 6+ inches of snow and each day since there has been another 6+ inches. Saturday has been the worst so far with almost the entire day having heavy snow storms/downpours. Sunday is apparently going to be the same.
Colleague is on callout for Kent Highways in the Dover area and there has/are A roads that are either blocked or down to a crawl from snow drifts.
Monday could go either way (forecast snow/light snow showers) but we are still stuck, unable to get the car the 30m down the lane to the main road (which is still relatively clear although being re-covered after it been gritted).

Had a small bit of snow to go with the 3 inches already covering our airfield. The windchill also got down to -15, which was pleasant. Decided rolling around in the snow wasn't a good idea, for today at least.
We just had lots of snow here and as such Sam and I made a snow-woman, complete with boobage (Sam's idea  :D ). She even has hair! It only took us 30 mins so not as good as others but fun as hell. I haven't had so much in the snow since I was a kid! Happy days! :D

Been a constant game of -3 the moment the sun sets and rising to maybe 0 during the day.
Had the roads here iced up for a week prior to christmas, snow, snow melt and refreeze has added to that problem.
Sod all grit for Fife (rumour is they ran out start of Dec) but they've been keeping up appearances by sending out gritters with their lights flashing. No grit coming out of them though :p
Luckily I'm only 0.8 miles away from work. Still treachorous and not safe to walk (inclines/declines - all frozen and lethal) but I can get there.....
Get to work in roughly 13 degree temps sitting at a till. Cold :(

Great snowmen, more snow predicted from 9am tomorrow till sometime on Tuesday.
Hope it rains or something. As Nice as a day or two with no work is nice. It's costing me money now :(.. They already cancelled tonight's job and Unless the snow clears I expect this week of nights will be cancelled as well. which means I'll be back on days on far less moeny and still won't be able to do anything apart from sit round being bored.

Im hoping the prediction turns out to be wrong as well, it tried to snow briefly today, but came to nothing. I brought some work home on a memory stick in case Monday is bad, but I really need the network in work to be able to do stuff properly, oh and I am meant to be driving to Birmingham and back on Tuesday to go on a course, so here's hoping the weather forecasters got it wrong for all our sakes.
Some of us (and I don't mean me) have had a really crappy time of it this week, and I hope things improve next week.

Getting tired of this now. With salt supplies running low and it now being rationed (I presume more than before)... It's not looking good. Our road must now be under 2" of compacted snow and ice from before xmas to now.
The Omega hasn't moved since Monday as it's just too risky with the ice & fresh snow. If we didn't get any more snow I was going to use it Monday FFS

I do naturally but it's flat. It did it just before Stan left so I know it'll roar into life with a jump... once I can give it a jump start :o
Well it looks like snowy clouds. But yesterdays weather forecast has been changed. Snow now starting at 3pm and only lasting to 3am, instead of the 9am till mid dayish Monday they were predicting. The chance of it happening has also fallen from 95% down to 60-75%
Everything is colourless here - the sky is a very light grey and most of the streets are white or grey. I've given up on forecasts - we were meant to have quite heavy snow last night and today but there was just a light dusting over night.
Wednesday we have another severe snow warning but at the same time we have predicted temperatures of 5-7c (no minus sign! )
Depress the clutch when you go to start it, its meant to help. (am sure someone will be along shortly to explain why, just have heard it makes things easier)
Basically the cold oil in the gearbox is thick (sort of like syrup as an extreme example) so putting the clutch down doesn't mean the starter motor has to churn the gearbox as well as the engine making its life a little easier :)

Maybe better charge my battery up in case you need it again - not sure how much charge will be left in it (my battery went flat when I was home so I took it off to charge it and didn't bother putting it back in as I didn't need the car before I left for work - in case any body is wondering).

Started melting this morning... got to the slushy stage. :D Then it started freezing again and now it's sheet ice out there again. :( And it's been snowing since mid afternoon and it's getting worse. Haven't been able to move the car in over a week. Other half needs to go back to the hospital on wednesday and it looks like it's not going to defrost before then.
I wonder if shouting at the snow will make me feel any better...

Yesterday evening, for the first time in a week I could see tarmac!!! :D
Had more snow over night only 1/2 an inch or so though, but the temp is definitely up on last week.
In the last hour a lot has gone from our road, still loads left though.
Had to abandon my car this morning, and walk the rest of the way into work. I still love the snow :D
There's very little snow left here now. The back garden is green with a few large patches of white.
Thawed out a lot at home but it's now started slightly snowing in Nuneaton. Getting slightly bored of it now.
