i know we have at least a few anime fans on-board...we should try and increase that by spreading the anime-love.

i'm currently watching Elfen Lied, about to start watching Gunslinger Girl. on my to-get list are Ai Yori Aoshi vol 2 and Fruits Basket.

Elfen Lied is totally awesome...a little more violent than i was expecting, but it's wicked. for those who aren't aware, it's about a sweet, benevolent girl who has brutal, supernatural powers, and the ability to dismember a person from quite a distance. she's also able to stop bullets. episode one sees her washing up on a beach and being taken in by an unsuspecting couple, who aren't aware of her extraordinary powers.

I've never really wathced any of this type of stuff. The only film I've seen is Akira which I quite enjoyed although it seemed to go on for ages (not sure what the actual runtime is).

I might have to grab a film or two just to take another look :)
Any beginner recommendations?

For something a bit different try Habaine Renmei beautifully animated and shows relationships between charactors whilst having a hint of Ghibli charm

Also Wolf's Rain one of my favorite series and again a departure from the norm, nice fantasy setting and beautiful music

Blue Sky, Appleseed (the latest film) and Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex should all appeal

Wooo :D Blood+ is excellent so far. Really enjoying that show. Started off a bit slow and most of my friends gave up but I just knew it had to get better based on how the original film turned out. Bleach is also excellent. I love that its weekly. It has a great blend of comedy and action together with plenty of annoying "To be continued" messages.

Anime I have lying round to get into includes;

Naruto
Mushishi (sp)
Ergo Proxy
Noein
Samurai 7
Samurai Champloo

Get a move on! Bleach is brilliant. Blood+ is a prequel series to Blood: The Last Vampire. An excellent movie.

Currently watching Great Teacher Onizuka. Bit of a change from the normal Bleach, Initial D kind of anime's that I normally watch, but surprisingly its pretty good.

I have just finished fate-stay night and that was one of the better ones I have watched recently. Its about a magicians who are forced to fight every seven years for the "holy grail", a chance to have any wish granted. They summon servants and then the masters & servents battle it out until only one remains.

I've just started watching a new one called Innocent Venus, set in a world kinda similar to the one in the Day after Tomorrow. Usual thing. Mechs, killing, psychos, innocent kids who'll probably save the world later on, etc.

Upto ep 40 on Blood+ now too. Really good series so far. About 14 episodes left I think.

One that I really would push for people to watch is FMA (Full Metal Alchemist). There are some really nasty twists during the 56 odd episode series which *will* move you with joy and heart wrenching sadness. Overall its a very entertaining series and I couldn't stop watching till the end, but damn its nasty in places.

I thought I'd see what the fuss is about, all Janet's brothers spens an obscene amount of money on Anime. I've just bought 2 taster box sets from the Works for £7.99 and £9.99. Not had a chance to watch any yet but I'll report back when I have.

Ikki tousen is a good watch, very easy going and some nice battle sequences.

If you enjoy that cast an eye over Tenjou Tenge, similar vein and a damn good series.

You in for a treat with appleseed, which Im assuming is the new one.
Some beautifull animation there and the 3d and cel shaded intermingle really well, good soundtrack too.

For those that havent seen may I also reccomend:

Voices of a Distant star
The Place promised in our earyl years

Small studio with very few people working on it.
They pull both of these off amazingly, voices is only like 30mins long but when you watch it, you'll be amazed how much is stuffed into that 30minutes.

Has to be my most recent favorite, sat and watched in multiple times in a row coupla times too.

just watched the 5 eps of Witchblade from baka.

some of you may know its based on a US comic series, however, they seem to have made a movie flop, a live action tv series flop AND an animated series flop too LOL

guess they decided to get a company in that knew what they were doing.

Seems a new universe using the WB story.

Looking good so far, the background of the WB was introduced but not explained much, theres also some new additions in this series too. Theres already been some nice character building.

Sems like this could be one to keep an eye on.

Just watching school rumble 2nd semester. Its very much a "put your brain in neutral" anime, but damn funny and I would rate it up there with Full Metal Panic. Essentially it takes all the cliched characters in anime, stuffs them in a classroom and watches the choas unfold.

I'll try and summarise the plot as it gets random....There is the psychotic samurai nut who is obsessed with this girl. The girl in question has "super powers" meaning she can read peoples minds. Her sister is damn stupid, but is fancied by the school delinquent. The samurai nut thinks that the delinquent fancies the older sister and WW3 generally breaks out. There are tonnes more of the standard cliche'd characters in there which all bounce off each other.

It all kicks off from there, one very amusing anime. The writers love to take a situation and turn it to the most weird extremes possible.

I watch too much of this stuff, seriously.... it's not good. Well it keeps me occupied in the hotel rooms I suppose :)

Just finished watching the 2005 remake of The Guyver.

The original (which I owned all of on VHS... it was that long ago) was only 12 episodes long and didn't contain anywhere near as much detail as the new 26 part series.

The animation is 90% superb (rather than the 60% superb from the original) and whilst the subtitles have some serious grammatical and spelling errors then the story works sooooo well.

Got a DVD sized .avi set backup here if anyone is interested in some bio-boosted fun, although alas I have no spare DVDs yet :/

Just a quick bump.

After watching a few episodes from the Anime Channel of Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist and Ghost In The Shell: SAC, I've gone ahead and picked up the 1st 2 Ghost in the Shell movies and the first season on SAC. Gonna try and get hold of Bleach and FMA at some point as well.

Before this the only other stuff I've watched is Akira and Spirited Away (which is amazing). So I'm kinda glad there is finally a channel for Anime in the UK.

I like watching:
Naruto (although shinpudden is no where near as good as pre-timeskip, fillers not included).
Bleach
Claymore - This one is cool, about half human, half demon women who go round killing other demons.
Deathnote - Really cool storyline, involving loads of twists etc.... ends a bit poo tho imo.
Berserk - I like this one too.

Watched loads of others to tho, other memorable ones include, Samurai Champloo, Ninja Scroll (original, didnt like the series), Ghost in a shell, Street Fighter... and of course full metal alchemist.

It's a bit of an old one now, but I HIGHLY recommend Read or Die. There's a 3 episode OVA that comes first (kind of like a miniseries if you're not familiar with them) which is then followed by a 26 episode series (often referred to as Read Or Die TV on the net) - it's important to watch the OVA first as it introduces some important characters.

The whole series is kind of like a Japanese X-Men, and gets bonus points for having part of it set in London with members of the British Library Special Forces Division joining in the fight.

I also recommend Great Teacher Onizuka - you can't go wrong with a story about a thug from a biker gang deciding he wants to become a teacher :)

I've not been impressed with a lot of the new anime this year, though I've heard that Claymore is very good, so I may have to pick that up.

I have been watching Sayonara zetsubou sensei by Shaft. Its turning out to be a damn good but slightly twisted comedy. Give it 3 episodes and then decide. The teacher happens to be mr "extreme negative" and takes the worst possible view in any situation, just as he decides that its time to end it all he meets miss "extreme positive". Now she cannot see the badness in any situation. Cue him teaching a class of spit personality, hermit, manic obsessive, internet idol's and hermit's and its all set up to be a really twisted but funny anime.

You can grab some eps from baka-updates.com and I don't think its licensed yet.

Tis an old thread but worthy of resurrection. Right Stuf is clearing out a load of dvds and series
http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/

Is £18 the limit on dvds imported? I think this went up recently? Some of them are down to about £2 a dvd!

There does seem to be a lack of really epic anime out at the moment, almost seems to be a factory line. The one that I say is worth a watch at the moment is Soul Eater. The style is rather off the wall and I wasn't sure at first. However give it a few eps and it develops into a good story.

Essentially its about Shinigami's, "weapons", and Meistes (weapon users). If you had a person that always grew up as a weapon, they need a Meistes to be able to fight demons. The weapons and Meistes get stronger by eating the souls of demons after they lose. Throw a good helping of comedy in and you have Soul Eater. Worth a watch.

At the moment I'm watching Samurai Champloo again which has similar themed humour to Cowboy Bepop. To balance the scales i'll watch Aoi Yori Aosi which is a beautiful love story around an arranged marrage between two powerful clans. It didn't go to plan and the story starts from there. It's not all about mindless fighting in anime.
