View Full Version : 360 : It's dead :(
Got three red lights just before heading off to Swansea last week but a re-start saw the box fire up again.
Just got back from work to pop it on again and just getting three red lights all the time now :(
Pretty sure I'm well outside of the warranty now so what's my best option? Just buy the cheapest arcade I can?
Probably, and there are some good arcade deals around (trade the games in to offset the cost).
I think this will tell you about the warranty status:

Can't remember the original purchase date but it was 11 months old when I first bought it and just managed to get that exchanged when I got my first set of three reds. Pretty sure I've had it way more than another two years since then but will check that page out :)
Will check those deals out :) Argos have one for £125 with a few games I could keep or sell on. Will have a look around.
Could sack it off and get a PS3 of course, everyone else seems to be ;D
No chance :p I like the 360 :D
On that warranty page, if I fill in the info will it tell me if I'm in my warranty? Do I need the receipt at any stage?

They never asked me for the receipt when I sent mine back a couple of years ago.

Just the console serial number.
Never asked me for a recepit on the phone a couple of years ago. Never even asked for date of purchase iirc.
Put in the serial number from the back and it shows it's out of date....but...manufacture date on the back of the console shows 2006 - 10 - 20. Surely the warranty should run from date of purchase and not manufacture? I reckon I might have a chance to dispute it as it';s literally only a month or two over the manufacture date. Got to be worth a try?
Aye, give them a bell. They can only say no :)
Actually, just looking at another page which says warranty expired on 3/11/2008 so must have been from the original purchase date. Looks like I'm well out so don't think I'll get any joy.
edit/ Now I'm confused. It says "Standard Warranty Expired: A three-year warranty applies to conditions indicated by three red lights. Please click "request a new repair" to proceed." So has my standard warranty expired but I'm still only just outside the three years?
Looks like I can pick up an Arcade, Pure, Lego Batman and a Controller for £130 from Game so might go with that.
I've seen places doing the Arcade for £109 if you don't really want/need those extras.
Yeah, seen it for that price too but I thought an extra £20 for a couple of games and a controller wasn't bad. Pure I don't think I'm fussed with (have no idea what it is even) but Lego batman will be cool. Don't need an extra controller but not sure what they sell for second hand. Would be happy to keep it.
If it's a wireless controller then I'd be up for purchasing that off you if you decide to shift it at the right price :)
Will see what package I get Feek :)
It is Wireless, and Pure is a racing game that didnt score too badly iirc :)

Just take it into Gamestation & tell them you bought it from Woolys.
Give them 28 quid & your old box for a recon new box & a 2 year warranty.
It's Instant & Poifect.
Don't have a Gamestation near by :(

Sorry, have had a quick look through the thread but need to ask: have you even tried calling Microsoft? They often replace 360s for free outside of their warranty period as they've effectively admitted the product is inherently faulty when they extended the warranty in the first place. They'd be opening themselves up to new lawsuits if they refused to repair a product of a fault caused by poor design.

You have 3 years from the date of Manufacture on the rear of the console. I thought you bought an Elite?
Whilst Arcade deals are great at the moment there are some rather sensational Elite deals which offer games like Forza 3 and Modern Warfare 2, both of which you could use to offset the cost of the Elite to the price of the Arcade and get a 120gb HDD for free for your troubles.
Could sack it off and get a PS3 of course, everyone else seems to be ;D
Don't think anyone is actually replacing a 360 for a PS3, they'd be mad to. Thankfully Sony's console is actually at a price most can stomach.
Nope, not got an Elite. Mine was a premium and I bought the 120 drive afterwards. Looks like amazon have one of the best deals with some half decent games I could probably sell on. Still looking though :)

I beg your pardon :p I'm certainly not replacing my 360 ;)
I didnt mean everyone was sacking it off, I meant everyone was getting a PS3 :p

Feek, I have a wireless control which I have never used if you want it? That is if Jamie doesn't sell you his :)
Looks like Amazon is best. £195 gets me an Elite, extra controller, Pure, Lego Batman, and a choice of 2 from Fifa 10, Borderlands and WET. Only game I really want to keep is Lego Batman so could sell on all or some of the others along with the hard drive.
I could really use a bigger hard drive on mine, I keep having to delete stuff from it. We could be talking deals here, Mr. Desmo (and/or Tink :))
I'll keep it in mind Feek :) Makes it a lot easier to shift stuff on.

Did you set up a new Amazon account? If you did you get Amazon Prime delivery for free for a month which nets you next-day couriered delivery. Came in very handy before Christmas!
Nope, used my current account. Not in any major rush as we're still down in Swansea until the weekend so will be getting it delivered to work next week.
I'll keep Lego Batman as I want that anyway and will keep pure as it doesn't sell for much. Will sell FIFA10 and maybe WET as well along with the drive. Should get me back down to around what I would have paid for an arcade with a game or two.
Should be getting my delivery today :D
And it's here, along with my laptop HDD :D
What do I play with first? ::/:

Slight blast from the past, but I was talking to somebody on another forum today who had their 360 repaired outside of warranty. Thought I'd take a look at my details online and see what came up. Hit the button to request a repair and instead of seeing the cost of repair come up (£80?) like it did last time, it now shows £0.00 ;D
So repair booked in :D
Going to have me a spare console hopefully.
Damn system. Got my UPS label and stuff through but can't seem to get a collection booked in properly :(
