You may have to explain it to those of us with broken brains ;)

Leo's link explains it pretty well, but a fairly basic summary.

The cartoon is about Schrödinger's cat. Put a cat in a sealed box, with a sealed vial of poison gas, and a geiger counter. If the geiger counter picks up radiation the vial will open and the cat will die.

As an external observer you have no way of knowing whether or not that cat is alive or dead. As I understand it, in quantum physics the cat is both dead and alive at the same time, existing in a quantum supposition state that lasts right up until the moment you open the box and discover if the cat has died or not.

If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics.

I try not to look too closely at the bits I don't understand because that way I at least understand it a little bit.

This may be me being dumb but isn't the funny bit of the cartoon the cat is trying to get the human into the box so we don't really need to understand quantum physics?

I giggled anyhow :)

In part, but if you combine it with the quantum physics aspect the reasons why he might want the kid in the box become funnier (to me anyway) :D

Not really difficult.

Ah, this strip inspired my bookface update for the day 'greenflash7 became a fan of Schrodinger's Cat. Or did he?'

So i think its safe to assume it amused me!

Due to a quantum entanglement I was aware this thread was funny at the exact moment you were writing it :)

I think I've broken quantum mechanics. Even though I've opened the thread several times I still can't decide whether it's funny or not.

This thread is both funny and unfunny at the same time. I love Quatum mechanics! :D

Somewhere there must be a parallel universe where quantum mechanics don't exist. Hmm.

Ziggy says theres a 32.3% chance that I'm here to make this thread funnier... Oh boy.
