Ok, I've had an idea ..... which then spawned loads of other ideas.

They all revolve around aids in icy / snow conditions both for normal people and mobility orientated. I have about 3 good ideas that I think could be handy for most people. I also have one further idea around wheelchairs that has not been patented but I would be amazed if it isn't soon.

I do intend to build all of them simply because being selfish for a moment, they'll help me loads :)

The question is, has anyone on here been down this route? I've looked up the IPO and had a good rummage through the patents that are filed in the UK and abroad. Reason I ask is just seeing if anyone has done this before as it could save a lot of messing about if it turns out to be rubbish.

Granted, me thinking they are good ideas doesn't mean anyone else will want them. There is also an issue I think with my company whereby they essentially own my ass on inventions although there could be clauses (need to check later).

Shout if you need any guinea pigs, both able bodied and those with mobility issues. The disabled child I used to look after's Mum is forever looking for and trying out new ideas that think outside the box.

Some of the best inventions are often made by those who have had difficulties themselves, and developed an idea from that.

Even if there are not clauses specifically you may well be able to argue that the idea is not one that would normally come up in the course of your work and being in a field unrelated (I'm assuming it is for the moment) it should not fall to your company to profit since the idea and investment in it were yours done on your own time. That's not a strict legal argument of course but the gist of it may be a line to pursue if you get that far.

I've not tried to patent any ideas myself but if you're serious about it and think the idea is worthwhile it may well be worth your while speaking to a patent lawyer.

Thanks :) I guess the first step should be making some to see if they actually work :D If they do then I may chat to a patent lawyer. If and when I get somewhere I'll keep you in mind Marie.
