Its almost impossible to tell at 12+6, really needs to be 16 weeks plus to get a good idea and 20 weeks ideally, we're too impatient to wait so we will definately find out at the next NHS scan at 20 weeks :)
MB
This is what happens when there is nothing good to watch on telly :p
Does this mean that the mini will have to be traded for something more suited.... like a people carrier?
Only teasing mate, congrats to you both :D

The answer to the car question is probably yes
The main issue with the MINI is not room for the seat but room for the extras, its not really big enough to even get a pushchair in so we are looking at alternatives and I've driven a few already. I don't really mind though, I find I drive the MINI less and less hard these days.

No pics yet, I think Aitch is getting used to her bump but I doubt she'll let me take pics.
14 weeks today, very exciting. I've made a start on clearing stuff out of the spare room and we've test driven a few cars.
Decided on a pushchair already I think, the very cool Stokke Xplory :)
I won't be doing regular updates, it's not very interesting for people but I expect I'll post here when exciting things happen that I want to share. If you are not into babies just ignore this thread.

Very little to report that the moment.
Aitch is being brilliant and just getting on with things, although she is spending too much time at work as it is the end of the month and a busy time. Hopefully she will be able to slow down a bit in the coming weeks but if she is happy and not too stressed I'm not going to nag her about it.
The car gets changed next week and I've started clearing out the spare room a bit although its a long term project, things are coming together and we'll be going to a baby show in London next month to look at pushchairs and stuff, so that big expenditure is ahead of us! We currently have two things which we like but have decided on very little else
Stokke Xplory pram/ pushchair - I like this because its so high and being tall I won't be bent over all the time to push it, also the baby is very high up too which keeps them close to the parent and out of car fumes and living in the centre of town this is an issue. I think it looks cool too the child can face either way and it is high enough to sit up to a table if we are out :D
http://www.rach.com.au/wp-content/xplory-olive.jpg
And the Stokke Sleepi crib which is cool because it converts into a bed later but when the baby is small it has a nice rounded space rather than a rectangular space :)
http://bassinetstyle.com/images/3%20in%20walnut.jpg
I did say this would be boring didn't I ;D

That crib looks ace :D I wish I could have found cool stuff like that when I was producing sprogs.
That cot is excellent, so sweet that it's a little circular space for the little one. Pram looks good too, lightweight and looks easy to move around.
Hope H is getting lots of support at work, and doesn't work too hard!
That crib is a brilliant idea (does it transform into all three versions in the picture or are they all different models :) pushchair is a good choice too.
I am assuming the junk room is going to be the nursery and not the dressing room? :p although I'm assuming you will have the crib in your bedroom for the first few months?
BB x
Matblack
29-01-2010, 12:49
I'm glad you like the crib, it does all of those different 'modes' if you buy the extention bits, if we like it I think we'll probably get the extentions at the time and bung them in the loft ready, it would be just my luck for the company to go under or change the design before we got around to buying the additonal bits :D
The junk room will be the nursery, I don't think Aitch would sacrifice the dressing room however many children we had ;)
The Sleepi has casters so we can wheel it about but yes I supect Roo will be in with us for a while.

^^ and when Roo grows out of it, you can sleep in in when you and Jamie stay over! :D
Normally I'm not one for baby stuff, but you pretty much introduced gadgets into the equation and won me round. Both pram and crib are awesome. Jr. will be pleased!

Not at all, I read Stokke and immediately thought of Allison Stokke, maybe that wasn't quite the point though... :o
The pushchair and cot do look like they'll be good for the baby and you, does this make it seem more 'real' as you're getting on with the preparations in earnest?

Roo is a little girlie!! It is hard to tell from the scan even after the sonographer pointed it out, although she said it was very clear to her and she was confident. It feels like we can start to visualise things a bit more now although I'm still getting used to it all.

She is changing it for a long PTFE keeper tomorrow.
We went to have it changed two weeks ago and the guy who put the new one in didn't realise she was pregnant, he said it should be OK but its sore already.

She just come down to tell me she has felt Roo move properly for the first time, she's felt a few flutterings but we've had real movement tonight which Aitch thinks she can feel on the outside as well as the inside. I'm excited about being able to feel her kick and really looking forward to it :)

And so, the count up becomes a countdown.
As of today we are 140 days or 20 weeks pregnant, as the standard length of pregnancy is 40 weeks we are officially half way there, GULP!
I haven't done very much to get the house ready apart from a little bit of tidying and my sole purchases are a soft toy, a hat and a pair of socks which to be honest probably isn't going to keep her warm enough. The first trimester seemed to go on forever and this one has flown by, its not going to be long before the spring and she's due in the summer, PANIC!

I hope you don't mind but I thought I'd share an awesome chair with you as it really is a fantastic item for baby from birth to toddler, Isabella is 2.5yrs almost and she still uses hers as her chair in lounge, she is very attached to it.
Well here is the chair..
http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=132001&e=detail&selcat=bgb&pid=37930
This one wasn't out when I had Georgina and I bought chair and swing seperate so was no point buying it for Isabella, swing is really helpful for days when baby wants to be on the go but you just want to tidy up as you can put it in the room you are in and keep an eye on baby while busy :)

Aitch was at her sisters last night and I hadn't seen her much during the week, we were lying in bed this morning as she didn't have to get up, she is working from home today because we have the twenty week scan later.
So anyway I had my hand on her bump (not bumps) as I tend to do when we are lying together and I felt something move against my hand and look up at Aitch and she said 'did you feel that' I'm like errrr yeah and Aitch said that Roo had just moved. She didn't know whether it could be felt outside as when she has her hand on her bump it's hard to tell if it's movement inside or outside, but this was definately outside too. So I've felt my first kick! or more likely push.
It's if I've been walking past someone's house every day for 20 weeks and the door never opens and the curtains never twich and suddenly today someone who I know will be my friend for the rest of my life has opened the door run down the path and given me a hug. She's gone back inside now but I know I'll get a lot more hugs and in a few months there will be more time together, but for the time being I will settle for the odd hug :)

Awwwww how lovely :) make sure you report back after the scan!

Awwwww ! :D
Hope all is well with the scan :)
Now that you have felt your first kick/movement, I'd like to suggest you choose a nice book to read to roo... I used the ginger bread man and right from the start in the real word you could see the excitement on babys face and the movement when reading the story..
Also if Aitch isn't doing already then encourage her to talk to roo (and you for that matter) tell roo about things going on around you and for example things like vacuum noise explain it and how it works..
You might feel silly but it will make for a more intelligent child!
Faysh used to sing/talk to bumps all the time, he was a bit unsure at first but once he started he would do it all the time, so sweet :D
Josh used to talk to the girls bumps which was even sweeter!!!

Can I ask a really silly question? If you knew Roo was a girl before the 20 week scan, how did they work that out, because I thought they could only tell at 20 weeks and not before?

:o
There are a number of ways; it is possible to tell the sex from about 16 weeks from a scan, you could also have an amnio or CVS test both of which will tell the sex because they are genetic tests. We had a private scan because we didn't want to wait for 20 weeks.

Aww hello Roo, will you be having the 4D scans? I wanted one with Isabella but Faysh didn't like the idea.
Awww, she's a proper baby shape now!!! :D

As this got bumped I thought I should give you an update
And the update is..... there really isn't much to update you on.
Aitch is doing a sterling job, working long hours but making sure she is eating well and doing all she needs to do. We need to book up for NCT classes soon, it is not essential but by all accounts they are pretty good and the information will be useful, we also have dates for NHS classes, we want to be well prepared but I've done so much reading I'm not sure what I'm going to pick up in a few classes.
Aitch is getting bigger, Roo is 23 weeks not and about the length of a ruler (30cm/ 12 inches). Tummy button hasn't turned from an innie to an outy yet but its now tiny and stretched and still a bit sore around her piercing. We have booked what should be a final private scan, a 4D one which we are going to take my parents to as a suprise at the end of April as they are visiting us for a few days.
Last night in front of the telly after dinner Roo was having a little kicking session which I love to feel but we also watched and saw Aitch's belly move, its the first time either of us have seen that. She kicks quite strongly now, a definate shove from the inside, although neither of us is sure what she is actually doing and whether she is navigating about her little space or if she is just kicking out her legs and arms.
Routine midwife appointment next week, if Aitch wasn't coping so well this bit could be a bit tedious but she is doing a stirling job and the only reason we want the process over is so we can get our hands on our baby.
Really must sort out the nursery :/

Weird day today, Roo is now 24 weeks and a day old she is now what is termed 'viable', I'm not sure how I feel about the term but effectively it means that she 'could' survive if something were to happen and she had to come out early. This is not the same as 'would' survive and most babies born this early have long term problems. So it's a weird day, the trick now is to keep her baking for as long as possible.
My friend Marc's wife Kathrine is due today which is exciting and I'm waiting for a text over the next few days :)

At my church in London there was a couple who had a baby around the 24 week mark who survived. Cute as a button, and naturally tiny with it. Was an extremely challenging time for them, in and out of hospital watching over her in her incubator. There was great celebration once she was allowed home, and then an absolutely huge one when she was well enough and strong enough to cope with exposure to the outside world :)

Matt - If her piercing is getting uncomfortable but she doesn't want it go close up, you can get bioflex which will keep it open until afterwoods. You can even get jewelled ones. Buy online here or from your local piercing studio

Over a week since I have written anything and time seems to be accelerating. Heather is growing by the day and when we both have some time I’ll do some updated bump pictures so you can see just how big she is getting now. Roo has become more and more active over the last two weeks and is now able to cause discernable changes in the shape of her bump as she punches and kicks, it won’t be long until space starts to get tight in there and she’ll have less room to move about so she better make the most of it.
We’ll be 26 weeks on Wednesday and she is putting on about 100g in weight a week which considering she only weighs about 750g at the moment is quite a lot.

We are gradually acquiring things for the nursery, we bought a chest of drawers this weekend from a second hand shop, it’s a bit battered but we like it J
My friend Marc’s wife gave birth yesterday about 10 days later than her due date but little Florence is beautiful and if possible I’m looking forward to having our baby even more J
