Part rant, part help.

Wtf nothing has changed since last year yet I can't find any quotes that are cheaper or even the same price as last year.

last year was £330 or £370 in instalments

This year best I can find

Is £375 or £415 in instalments.

this is the first year I have really struggled. I know with each extra ncb teh savings get less. Tried adding parents, even tried adding friends.
26 with 6ncb same address as last year, same car everything.

Has anyone else found this problem this year.

Now to the help part.
tried

quotezone
gocompare
confused
moneysavingsupermarket
aviva
more than
direct line
elephant
kwick fit

Probably other but I forget.

Grr £45 more than last year and that one doesn't even include DOC which I would like.

anyone know if hastings direct offer doc, can't see anything on their website. I know phone them. butt grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The only other thing I'd suggest is looking on quidco for a decent cashback to help drop the price.

Same group as Elephant but give Admiral a shot. Loathe to use them after they buggered up a simple claim (got reversed into) but they gots the cheapness! :)

Nope, my insurance went down about £80 to £570. I'm pleased.

Depending on what you renewal was, first direct offers 10% reduction on the renewal price. This year I am paying around 620 for a group 16 car, 8 years ncb. I am hoping to get that down as well. I reckon about 550 would be good.

In general my renewal quotes have risen (lots of people are finding this). Go to moneysavingsexpert and do their job comparison tool then try all the insurances listed.

I can highly recommend contacting the insurance company direct. Use confused etc. for some ballpark prices, then just phone the insurance company and see what you can haggle. Usually over the phone they'll give you better deals than they offer on-line.

Nice one will give them a try renewal was 400 so 10% of would make it the cheapest.

Yeah that use to work wonders and I did it all the time, doesn't seem to work. Gave it a try several just wouldn't budge and a few more said as I was less than 3 years since I was caught speeding they won't negotiate. I'll have to get some quotes, perhaps it's worth mothballing the car till the 4 of feb (3 years)

Already tried swift cover £450, despite paying less than that 2 years ago with them

well first direct are winning, thanks for that. It's not actually 10% under, but that maybe because my renewal quote is pay monthly. But they still work out cheapest and have doc. Think I will phone them up on Monday and see if they can do 10% of monthly pay. Either way I expect I'll get that one.

Still an annoying year. Hope it drops next year.

Aye, I was on the phone to them this afternoon and they are coming back with a quote monday (computers went down). I increased my mileage with admiral and through a little talking they kept it at £729. This includes breakdown and PI (90 ish extra). Then they are sending a written quote at this price. At this point I tell them about First Direct offering 10% less than their price ;)

Once I have first directs offer in the bag then I'll be back on the phone to Admiral. There certainly seemed to still be a lot of room left when I spoke to them earlier.

Acid, now you have the offer, go back to your original insurers and see if they will match it. You get extra points for quoting a reference number at them (I've found they *really* hate that).

It is much more of a battle this year though.

I have never failed to haggle 15% off by phone so that should bring you back to last years price

I wouldn't use them again or recommend after incompetence of putting a claim on my file that wasn't a claim, when one of my side windows was smashed I got it replaced through swiftcover insurance.... they put that on as a claim and then put another claim on for something like mallicious damage dated.. 2011 :D

They also class glass (windscreens etc..) claims, accidental or mallicious as a fault claim because they can't recover any money from a third party thus freezing your no claims bonus!

I think there are stories like yours about every insurance company but, to be fair, yours is the first negative I've heard about Swiftcover. I haven't needed to claim from them, so all I can say from personal experience is that they were a country mile cheaper than everyone else for me.

I just did a quote with Aviva and with a £60 Quidco cashback and putting my old Ma on the policy I have got it down to £180 for a 2.0 full loaded 2009 QashQai which I don't think is too bad as most places were saying ~£300 :)

I've had to put two claims through Elephant in the last 6months (1 at fault, 1 not) and both times they've been complete cretins or have handed me over to a third party of cretins that act as agents for them. I ended up in a hotel at my expense one night because they couldn't sort out the paperwork on my claim fast enough to get me a courtesy car.

So I'd give them and Admiral a miss for that reason alone.
