View Full Version : BT FTTC pricing and availability
Shamelessly nicked the link but those prices aren't bad! They have an address checker on there. It really stings that my parents house can get cable, FTTC and my house the other side of the main road can't :(
The telephone number checker is borked but if you click "I don't have a BT line" then it works fine.

Fork all for us for a long time.
Not even listed for us, but no great surprise. Good new is that in June 2010 I'll be able to connect at up to 9Mb. I'm currently typing this from my 20Mb connection ;D
You git :p Through more tweaking I now have a max connection speed of 8.05Mb. That's it until something changes on the line. Be are trialling bonded lines but then I will only get 16mb for £50/month. At the moment 8mb is enough but this could change if we get more content online.
You're all feckers!
I'm stuck with Kingston Communications and Karoo without a single alternative. They give me a 2MB line and 10GB limit for the bargain price of £17 pm on top of line rental and calls. Bah.
That site says the best I can get is "4.5Mb download" which by coincidence is almost exactly what I do get.

Back in the dialup days Kingston were great - 5p fixed local call cost, and logging into the local uni access meant I got unlimited internet for 5p until I needed to make a voice call :D
You git :p
Less than £10 a month and unlimited too :p
Matt, Boreham exchange gets upgraded to ADSL 2 in the next 3 weeks apparently so better than nothing :)

indicated date for your migration to our next generation network. Your connection is expected to move to the new platform on 16/02/2010, however the migration may complete before or after this date. On the day that your migration completes you may also find that your connection drops for a maximum of 10 minutes whilst work at the exchange is completed. As a consequence you may need to reboot your router. However, this is the only action that will be needed.
ADSL 2+ here we come :D
Hmmm, so the LLU that is presently there is not adsl2?
That's just what entanet are telling me. Does each provider need their own upgrade or is it done for all at the same time?
Apparently I should see a reasonable speed increase because my router is synced at 8128 which is pretty close to the max the current line can do. Real world increase, who knows? ;D
Hmmm, entanet are a reseller that use the BT wholesale (IIRC) so yep you should get a hefty increase there. When I was with them I started at 6mb and just kept sliding downwards, hence I ended up with Be.
I would say get a router with the tomato or dg team firmware (if you haven't already) to tweak your connection.
I don't get 6mb all the time but often do. Regularly get a decent download speed for files even if web pages are running slow. But yeah, hoping for a decent bump :) Going to stick with my current router for a while if I can.
Have now changed over. Still currently on the same "package" so up to 8mb. Have just done a speedtest and it says 7.0mb down and 0.28 up which is the fastest yet :) Should change over to up to 24mb today hopefully :)
Nice, just done a test on my line. I now sync at 8.08mb which is up from 7.5mb. This is using BE and their ADSL2 service. I use a DG834GT netgear router with the DG Team firmware and I can tweak the SnR right down to 1db to get that.
Oh, are you using opendns as that made a heck of a difference rather than using the ISP's lousy DNS servers.
So that looks like that's it for a while :(
Mine's a DG834G with standard firmware. UKFSN bloke said prob wouldn't work with adsl2+ but all I had to do was toggle one box :)

Eclipse weren't bad back in the day but that is cuckoo land pricing. BT is £24.99/m but I can't remember how harshly they throttle.
NEWBURY is on the list too. :party1:
Need to check out the upload rate though - and whether there is a package that will handle my data throughput. That's why I like Be* - they don't seem to care. ;D

So 40mb connection from eclipse and a limit of 60gb per month at peak hours for a bargain £50 per month...
So glad I'm leaving them soon.
Just thought I'd point out that that's an apples and oranges comparison. BT Home product vs Eclipse Business product.
Bonus :D I'm still waiting for UKFSN to pull their finger out and change me to the up to 24mbit connection

Apparently BT still has shocking AUP policies. Using 60gb generates an email and they throttle you back to the stoneage. The limit is 100gb, and then you are throttled for 30 days. About as much use as a chocolate fireguard then :/

All doesn't appear to be lost though, sky and talktalk *spit* are doing trials.

Whilst Braintree isn't listed to have this, whilst out on our walk this morning I noticed "BT FTTC" had been sprayed on to the ground about two feet away from an old green exchange box

Looks like they are getting ready to put a fibre cab in. It might be that your area is on a different exchange or just on the edge of the exchanges.
