anyone who has a BT phone can you pick up the receiver and see if you have other calls on the end of your line?

Feek

No, just a dial tone.

Kitten

that was totally bizzare:

1) rang my nan. As it started to ring, her 1571 answerphone kicked in and spoke over her. I couldn't get it to stop and it was recording while I was speaking to her. Told her to hang up and I'd ring her back - same thing again.

2) Matt called her on his mobile, got the same thing, twice.

3) I rang 1571 to see if there was a fault on our line (we don't have it)
It said simultaneously "You do not have any messages" and "The 1571 service is not enabled on your telephone" So hung up. Then picked up 2 minutes later and the phone was ringing out - hung up again, picked it up 30 seconds or so ago and there was a little male voice on the end of the phone going 'ello?? 'ello?' and then I gave it to Leo to speak and a woman starts speaking to him saying there's about 8 people on her phone line all of a sudden!

Now, all the people have gone, but ringing my nan, I get the same problem again, and my line is very clearly open to more than just us (you know how you can tell when someone's on the exension - well we only have one phone and it's about 10x that sound).

Weird! Also weird is that's probably the first time I've used the phone in over a month (rarely use it) and it chose just then to go bonkers!

Try dialing 1571 Feek? Mine was a dial tone when I first started out ;D

Feek

We don't have the BT answerphone service so that does buggerall.

Kitten
28-01-2010, 21:53
neither do we! But we got a message telling us that we didn't have the service at exactly the same as we were told we had no new messages. That's the point :D

Edit, just tried 1571 again - it did the same thing, then went dead and started ringing (at the same time). Who is it ringing? And when I hung up, it started ringing ME!

Where's bloody Tink when you need her??

And our t'internt is very flaky at the moment. Just went off for around 15 mins, then back, now the phone problems, and it's bouncing again.

I am HERE!

So let me get this straight, is it your line or your nan's which is having the problem? Or both?

If you are calling someone then there are loads of people on the phone who you don't know?

Pick up the phone and dial 17070, what does it say? Your telephone number?

Feek

Sorry Kitten! I tried it and just get the recording saying that I don't have it and if I want it to call this number, blah blah

Kitten

this is beyond a joke now, it's still ringing us, ringing out, ringing anyone it likes, with 3/4 lines all at the same time. Some ringing, some talking, some hold music and some doing that weeewaah thing it does when it's been left off the hook?! I got a moment of bliss where it seemed to be quiet, rang my phone and got a totally different outgoing number! Have our tame BT engineer on the line at the moment though, so hopefully she can sort it out :D

Thanks for trying Feekles x

Sounds like (in my entirely non experienced opinion) someone at the exchange (or one of those green boxes or similar) has misplaced a connection or something and so a bunch of lines are connected in a manner they are not supposed to be.

Kitten
28-01-2010, 22:58
Tink, it says a totally different number.

The people are there when I pick up the phone -without dialling.

Mum rang Nan from her mobile and nan's phone was fine.

And our t'internet is flaky too :(

Lol Divine I love your thoughts of the problem. I read that as it could be in the green thingy or in the exchange thingy or in the other thingy :p

divine

To summarise, I think that something is quite probably wrong, and most likely that problem exists somewhere.

:D

Kitten

I think you've hit the nail bang on the head there.

TinkerBell
28-01-2010, 23:33
LOL ;D

I am pretty damn sure what it is :) Will bring some things just to make sure for tomorrow :) Won't take two seconds.

Just start chatting to the people on it; join in their conversations - new way to make friends ;D

TinkerBell

The problem won't go away until someone has been out to fix it. They may go out on someone else's fault, which is probably be in the same place as yours and fix yours at the same time. If it does stop cancel the appointment :) If not then they haven't found the common problem with the line yet.

I suspect that the fault for everyone who is talking on the line is in the same place, so fix one and all are fixed :)

Still going on now and BT Fault system tells me it's a problem with their network so we'll just have to wait and see.

TinkerBell
29-01-2010, 13:40
They are right about that :) Is an engineer coming out on saturday did you say?

Kitten
29-01-2010, 13:48

Kitten
29-01-2010, 14:17
Ok, just tried to ring home, got 3 different people answering, an answerphone we don't have an a 'this number does not exist' message. Bloody annoying now!

iCraig

Pick up the phone and dial 17070, what does it say? Your telephone number?

Oooh, what's Fast test and fast cleanse? Sounds fast. ;D

TinkerBell
30-01-2010, 11:02
They aren't that exciting! Fast test is one of our test systems, takes about 2mins for a result. Never use fast cleanse!

LeperousDust
31-01-2010, 19:56
iCraig i dare you to try fast cleanse! ;D

Sounds quite funny actually Kitten, definitely inconvienient, but then i never use out home phone ever, in fact i think its broken, we get it "free" with virgin anyways. Mobiles R us being studenty types, death to the landline! Rah!

leowyatt

It was sorted yesterday and the cause was a fuse in the exchange that was connecting our lines with others :/

Kitten
31-01-2010, 20:52
I have no idea how long it was like that Alex, haven't used it since Xmas day to talk to the stateside rellies! Up & down net was a pita tho.

LeperousDust
