Set 58 years prior to the events of Battlestar Galactica, this prequel will explore the lives of two families: the Graystones - include father Daniel, a computer genius, mother Amanda, a brilliant surgeon and their daughter, Zoe - and the Adamas. The two families are on opposing sides of the decision to create the Cylons: intelligent robots that will one day rebel and nearly annihilate the residents of Caprica.
ep1&ep2
The series has been touted as "television's first science fiction family saga" which isn't a great start as family sagas often end up being irritating and akin to a tarted up version of Eastenders.
So far, not so good IMO. There has been a lot of focus on the religious aspect of the BSG world which is where I felt that BSG started to fall apart in series 4 and was only saved by some top class action sequences.
BSG opened up with action along side the story, Caprica has opened up with a story and not very much action. They have only filmed 6 episodes and I fear that unless things start to improve VERY quickly the ratings won't be good enough to justify a full series, there is definitely potential but I do not think that the BSG faithful will put up with a series that has such a heavy focus on drama and virtually zero action.
