View Full Version : Binning PCs? Got any knocking about that you arent using?
Donate them to me!
Well, not actually me but the uni radio station. I am part of the engineering team for them and the server room is full of really, really old (and I do mean ancient) PCs running as servers. The fastest one (aside from the fileserver, which is a reasonable spec) is a P2 400! These are really getting quite long in the tooth now (its getting to the stage where custom kernels have had to be written to minimise the load to get things to run!) and could do with an upgrade.
I am looking to buy some old stuff from asset management companies etc but any donations at all would be great!
:D
I'll have a look around the office when I'm in next week and see what I can find.
I have an old case that takes socket A mobo's that you can have for free.
I think I have some old athlons knocking around somewhere

I have a load of bits at home that I was going to sort through and get rid of most of it. If you want, I can put it all in a box and send it down.
Dunno what'll be in it or how much use it would be but you're welcome to it if you can find a use for it.
Stan :)
I have all this stuff left over from a for sale thread. Your welcome to have it all if you want it for free but will have to collect / pay for postage on the heavy items:
CoolerCase Storm with 2x 80mm and 2x 120mm Y.S.Tech fans, baybus power Controller thingy included, switches case fans from 12v to 7v, CPU header on baybus is a bit dodgy as it switches from 12v to off instead of 12v to 7v, have added dust catching grill to side fan but still have old grill if wanted, 2 front blanking plates lost although im still looking (pic 1 (http://www.cliff-jodie.co.uk/stuff/forsale/case1.jpg), pic 2 (http://www.cliff-jodie.co.uk/stuff/forsale/case2.jpg))
Macron MPT 400P PSU (pic (http://www.cliff-jodie.co.uk/stuff/forsale/psu.jpg))
Diamond SupraExpress External 56k Modem
HP C1823 Cartridge (i think it's colour)
3 x Random 10/100 Network Cards
Creative Labs Soundblaster 128 (i think) CT4750
Vantec Stealth 60mm - still in box
Y.S.Tech CPU Fan (FD1260257B-2A)
2 x 80mm - 1 Y.S.Tech, 1 unused Evercool

What would postage be like for that lot then?
I have no idea, it would only be 1 box though as it can all be inside the empty computer case. I'll try and get a rough weight for you tomorrow some time.
Sorry to jump in but i would really really love this for a mod project i'm in the middle of right now!
Its not like I need it really.
Up to DRZ really, i've offered it all to him.
I weighed it all up and it come to around 12kg.
Just so DRZ knows, the baybus is installed in the blanking plate, if it is removed there would be none left and 3 cd drive sized holes in the front.

I've sadly not got cases as we tend to chuck these out but I have bits lying around which were P3 machines, I'll get a list together if you want them.
Got a monitor if you want it? 17" flat screen trinitron CRT.

Any update on this DRZ?

To save creating a new thread I've had a bit of a clearout and I've got a fair bit of random assorted stuff to pass on to anyone who wants it, or the tip whichever. :)
In no particular order:
A floppy disk drive(no front to it)
An ADSL modem filter
A DVD accelerator card
A PCI 3DFX 3DX5000TV card
2x 128mb PC133 SDRam
Unknown size PC100 SDRam
128mb PC100 SDRam
32mb PC100 SDRam
2mb PCI S3 Trio Virge video card
Some funky ISA Trident video card
2x IDE cables(I may be able to rustle up a SATA cable or two also if needed)
1x ancient floppy drive cable
1x removable IDE hard drive caddy + housing and spare caddy
2x 802.11b USB wireless adapters
1x 300w Suntek ATX PSU
1x USB Ethernet adapter
All items are presumed working but I can't really test most of them, they are free for the price of postage or if I'm feeling generous I'll just send them. :) Anyway if anyone is interested then let me know otherwise I'll probably dump most of it.

i'd be interested in trying to get one of the 802.11b USB wireless adapters working!
You are welcome to both of them, like I say I assume they work but they've never been used. If you just PM me your address or email it to me I'll happily post the pair of them off. :)

Sure, just PM me your address and I'll send it on. It is a DLink DSB-650TX adapter, Windows can, I think, find the drivers from Windows update automatically or there are probably drivers on the DLink website.
//edit and Fatiain I received your message earlier and have responded. :)
Very kind of you dude, just let me know how much it will cost you to post it and I'll cover it. Plus a little extra for a beer on me :)
This thread has encouraged me to dig through my stuff and see what spares I have. I'll have a look at the weekend.
Right guys, sorry I havnt been on top of this, have had a load of stuff on and forgot!
I will take *everything* that hasnt been spoken for. I will be PMing you to arrange a parcel2go collection at some point soon :)
Thanks once again guys :)
