View Full Version : Anyone getting a DSi XL?
I have been under a rock it seems and there is a new ds coming out. I was thinking today that the ds has been around for quite a while and wondering if a proper new handheld was coming out.....
Well the dsi xl has come out as a stopgap

It is tempting for the larger screen when working away in hotels but at £150 I think it's too steep. Anyone taken the plunge?
You may also want to bear in mind that Nintendo scrapped the expansion port on the DSi (and, I'm guessing, DSi XL too), so most (if not all) of the old DS/DS Lite 'tricks' no longer work.
I was tempted, briefly, but I suspect it'd just end up in a cupboard like many other toys.
Saw one on Saturday for £99.99 when you trade in a DS Lite. Not worth it for me at the moment, I really need to start using it more :D

Its £135 at ASDA new i think, without trade in's and GAME or Gamestation or one of those have it half price with trade in :)

Which "tricks"? Homebrew and errrr backup games? They all work through the normal game port now days and have done for years? Whats the difference with the DSi /XL and DS Lite apart from backwards compat with GBA (which is a moot point with R4 and Acekards yeah?) and a big(er yet same res i think!) screen?
The original (DS/DS Lite) R4 and AceKard doesn't work in the DSi, but as you'll probably suspect, it didn't take long. There's a new AceKard that does work. There's also an R4DSi but that's just someone trading on the name (i.e. not the real R4 guys) so YMMV on that one.
As for the differences, the DSi has two cameras, bluetooth/better wi-fi, browser built-in instead of optional, and a few gimmicks here and there. :)
PS - didn't know they'd moved on to SD-only until I did some digging. Shows how much I knew. ;D

Been thinking about getting one. My DS it getting a little worn out so a DSi XL would be great for me.
As the units are larger, is the battery life any better?
