View Full Version : Kate iz running - London Marathon 2010 (another shameless sponsorship request)
Well, I now have 5 weeks to go until I hit the streets of London to run 26.2 miles along with tens of thousands of other people, so I thought I'd better post my sponsorship page in case anyone wants to sponsor me. I won a place with my club, but a few people have asked if they could sponsor me, so I've set up a JustGiving page.
I am running for CLIC Sargent, Caring for Children & Young People with Cancer. Their website is http://www.clicsargent.org.uk (http://www.clicsargent.org.uk/). They provide invaluable care, financial support and advice to children and their families who are dealing with this cruel and unfair disease. They are also one of the VLM 2010 Official Charities.
Anyway, I won't go on about my running because it's all in here (http://www.boat-drinks.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8296) for anyone who's interested, but if you feel like throwing a few quid to the charity, then please visit this page: www.justgiving.com/lostkat (http://www.justgiving.com/lostkat)
I completely understand that people have sponsored others, have other financial commitments or maybe just don't want to sponsor me, so please don't feel pressured in any way. I just thought I'd post this in case people decided they wanted to give something.
Thanks for reading :) x
Echo the above ladies completely.

What an example you are Kate - good luck :)
Brilliant Kate! :D
Your running is a fantastic inspiration, motivation and achievement enough on its own!
Despite fundraising myself, I believe in donating to all causes you feel worthy - I shall be adding a modest, but all worthwhile amount to your fund and I hope it helps out :)
Cheers for your chit chat and advice on the whole running lark too ;)

Kate (and anyone else requiring sponsorship) please I mean this, will you nag me next week when its pay day and then I will sort them all out in one go.
So proud of you lady. :)
Free Bump! :)
How quickly time flies! It's this weekend!
I'll certainly be thinking of you on Sunday (and watching it on TV, for once). Hope it all goes well and you get the result you want.
Good luck!
P.S. Let me just remind you of your first post a little under two years ago...
"I'd like to be able to run for an hour without stopping."
Best of luck for tomoz :) Sorry for no sponsorship :( Pennies are tight at the mo...
Good luck hun, Some money coming in your direction from us.
One of my old teachers is running again this year, getting to be a regular participant from her running club. Bro-in-law seems to have stopped doing marathons now, which is probably sensible given the problems with his hips/thighs that almost always seemed to follow after one of them (a pre-existing problem just exasperated by long distance road running)
Huge thank you to everyone who's donated or posted words of encouragement :) I will do my very best xxx

Anyone know how Kate is doing? I'm using the facebook marathon tracker app and its done a 10k update for another friend but not for kate
edit - kitten says it puts kate at 0km so obv app is borked
The app seems to be working now. It says that Kate started at 09:55:53 and has run about 13.1 miles so far.

Wheres the facebook thing so I can have a look?
edit, found it!
Start time: 09:55:53
Current stage: 21km (13 miles)
Stage start time: 02:01:23
Last stage avarage speed: 9.9km/hr (6.1 miles/hr)
Estimated location (based on average speed): 21 km (13.1 miles)
I see paul's already posted dammit! On't' train into town!
the map bit of the app is still showing a stage behind where the stats show Kate to be

Saw her on the red button on the BBC. They have cameras on the finish line.
Massive WELL DONE! Kate. You are ace! :D
\o/ Amazing stuff Kate. In the time she's been running, constantly running, I've ran 5km, chatted to friends, showered, browsed the web, and watched TV. All that time she's been running. 35 mins for me was bloody tiring so I can't imagine how tough thats been for her.
Bloody well done Kate :)
No red button on Freeview so missed that. :(
Well done Kate. Very proud of you!
Bugger I didn't know they were doing that :( Super going Kate - so proud!!!
Gonna come back for another friend doing it (she is at approx 30km going by that tracker) and try spot her on those finishline cameras

Congrats Kate, well done :)
Well done Kate, very proud :D
What sort of time were you hoping for?
If it were me I'd be happy with anything under 10 hours I reckon.
Oh and you beat Richard Branson and Natalie Imbruglia by roughly 1 hour :)
EDIT: Money sent :)

She was looking good, that was the 25 mile mark and Kate was still going but she had had a hard few miles, she really perked up when she heard us though, threw down her bottle and powered on :D
We're really proud of you Kate but you know that, you're a Good Cat!
MB
The change in expression between the first pic and the third says it all really! :)
Utterly fantastic Kate :)
Had a great day in town and so pleased we managed to catch you at the end of the day.
Bloody well done Kate E Reeves :D
Amazing job, very very well done and a superb time to boot! Have chucked a few quid your way :)

Indeed! Echo entirely this!
Almost missed you, I was just a little further on from MB - I did scream and shout as loud as I could! It was very exciting to see you there. :)
Big well done Reeves!!! :D So proud! My cunning plan of following her after seeing her at Greenwich failed due to her being too fast - darn it! :p ;)
Lol! Brilliant day :)

Thank you :) It's been an extemely humbling experience for me today with the amount of support people have shown, especially those who wandered around London hoping to catch me as I went by. I really do appreciate it :)
Matt you are right. You lot were perfectly positioned and really picked me up a massive amount. I felt absolutely awful between 23 & 25. My feet were on fire, my legs felt they were falling apart and mentally I was ready to give up, so to raise a smiles was absolutley momentous :) thank you!!! Really wish I'd seen kitten & crew in their fab t-shirts a few hundred yards earlier :)
My official time is 4:03:32 which I am so pleased with. I had 3 goals. The first was just to get to the end. The second was 4:30, a time I would be happy to achieve. The third was my ultimate goal if everything went perfectly <4:00. Considering how congested it was until after canary wharf plus the fact that it was my first marathon, i am absolutely over the bloody moon :)

Did you make it around without stopping at all, or walking it? I'm so amazed at anyone who can run the whole way without stopping, I could probably manage a couple of miles before collapsing into a heap! :D
Congratulations, an awesome achievement

My bro-in-law is one of those stupidly fast, but not fast enough to be pro, people, and he's been lucky enough to classify as 'elite running club' based on his times. He's described it in the past as making all the world of difference for him running times wise with no faffing about with packs of people. If you're interested in running more marathons and maybe beating your time it might be worth looking around for a local running club that has places at it :)
How go the aches and pains? I imagine it's going to take a week or so for your body to recover!
I'm already a member of a running club garp. It's how I won my place :) You do have to be very quick to get to the front and that'll never be me I'm afraid. They put me in a pen far slower than I deserved but so many people put an estimated time of 4.5 hrs that it must be hard to sort out. Thankfully most of the elaborate costumes were behind me so at least I didn't have to dodge them. Might do Leics marathon in Oct. It'll be much less busy, but is slightly hilly. We'll see :)
No stoppages Davy. Very heavy traffic around the Cutty Sark at mile 7 so had to walk for a few seconds which was frustrating but that wasn't my fault so I'm not counting it. My body was screaming WALK at me at around 25 miles but I seem to have mastered willpower when it comes to running :) Feels like I was going really slow there but my pace didn't actually drop.
We wanted to go to the natural history museum today, but the aches have set in now and it's not going to happen. Boooo :( Shame because we don't get to come to London often.
Well done Kate, what a great achievement :)
You were incredible. I wish you'd seen us too, we had the whole row shouting KAAAATTTTEEE but I'm sure everyone was shouting as you ran past (we were shouting at everyone!) but at least you knew we were there (somewhere!). Everyone did an incredible job and the atmosphere was amazing. Definitely coming next time too :D
I have to say it's a great even to go to, even if you don't know anyone running. It's the first marathon I've been to and just shouting somebody's name and seeing their face light up and push on further, that 2 second connection with someone, is quite emotional. It's a very strange feeling. It's so nice to see the better side of human nature :)
As for next year, I'd like to go again even if I don't know anybody running.
:D :D KATE WELL DONE ! :D :D
What a bloody amazing achievement - cracking time too!! ;)
I bet you're aching something awful today but I bet there's a smile and fantastic sense of pride coursing through you - you certainly deserve it!
Bonus points for attending a party the night before also! The girl is hardcore!

I concur! I remember when I was younger seeing it on TV and remembering 'boring!' but now that I am immersed in it (people I know running in it and the fact that they run past the bottom of my road) its a different story :) - sign of getting old! I just don't tend to be in London as it always falls on my birthday weekend!
Randomly I saw two people who I didn't know were doing it and only Kate out of the 4 I knew who were!
The good cat has now left - for a well deserved chilled out day :)

I loved it. I know from doing my tiny little 5k runs that the people shouting at me to carry on really, really makes a difference. Obviously there's a lot of survivors there, and just that second when they make eye contact and clap and some of them shout 'Thankyou', just makes it so much easier to keep going. I loved cheering on the people who looked ready to drop, I just kept shouting 'Come on [insert name] here', you're almost there' and to see them pick up and carry on was so cool.
One lad ran toward us with a Garston running club (in Liverpool) purple top on and pain all over his face. As he got up to me I got my best scouse accent out and shouted 'GO 'EAD LAD, DO US PROUD!!' & patted his shoulder. He beamed at me and picked himself up & carried on to the next little group of people a few metres further down who cheered him on & I remember thinking, it's that that will carry him to the end, just knowing that everyone is willing him on!
See, I've just welled up thinking about it again. Such an emotional experience, loved every minute of it! Thankyou Kate for making it happen.
PS: I also bumped into Greg Wise who most of you probably won't know (actor married to Emma Thompson) (we all walked past him under the tunnel on the way to Buck House) and he laughed at my teeshirt. Couldn't remember his name til we were travelling home.
What was your T shirt Kitten?
Haha, glad your t-shirts were appreciated by other people too :D I think Kitten took a pic of mine & Matt's t-shirts together, so I'm sure she'll post them at some point.
You're absolutely right about shouting people's names. When I managed to catch the person's eye who shouted, it was just brilliant, even if I didn't have the energy to say thank you. How can you possibly give up with hundreds of people shouting your name? It was like a big Mexican wave of people shouting for me. I'm SO glad I had my name put on my vest now. People advised me to do it, but I never realised how uplifting it would be :)
I'll post pics later Vix :D
The one I took of you is lovely Kate, even if I do say so myself :D Will sort that and post later too!
Awwww :) Which one? As I was running or in Maccy D's?
in Maccy's :D

I was a bit 'lump in throat' keeping up with Kates progress on the day, and waiting for the time. Watching it on tv was also really emotional. I'm getting soppier by the week!

I had one of those screaming at the telly moments and was jumping about like a Mum at sports day! ;D
Ouch. I don't look happy there AT ALL and to be fair I wasn't. I LOVE that pic of me in Maccies though :D Fab t-shirt. I shall wear it with pride!!!

And this from a girl who 2.5 years ago begged me not to photograph her after she'd been running cos she hated it ;)
You've come a long way baby (quite literally) ;D
Vix, they were fab teeshirts, I forgot to take my pic, mine said
"RUN, NORKY, RUN!"

Make sure you don't accidentally go and watch the even then. You'll be a wreck :p
Please can I ask that anyone who has any pics of me pre/post marathon or actually running it, please can you email them to me even if you don't want to post them? I have some very excited parents who want to see them :p :) Merci
I can upload the high-res versions of mine if you like then they can download them directly. WIll have to do it this evening :)

Edit: Never mind *duh*
You getting the laminated poster Jamie?? ;)
Well done Kate, what an achievment!
Crispen at work ran one of the sister marathons and he has been hobbling around the office all week :D

How are you feeling now Kate, still stiff and sore? :)
Feeling fine thanks and looking forward to my first run. All my achey muscles have stopped now. Only trouble is that my toenail has become infected since Sunday and I've been given a course of antibiotics to get rid of it. It started hurting on Wednesday and is very painful so I'm having to wear sandals and obviously can't run yet. Rubbish :(
