View Full Version : Prefered wedding day for guests?
Question. You've been invited to a good friends wedding. Assuming you have to travel some distance, as most people here would, what day would you prefer it was? Would you mind putting in holidays at work for a friends wedding?
Iam obviously going somewhere with this ;) Anymore thoughts?
A Saturday.
/edit - To add detail, I wouldn't object to taking a single day off but a wedding is likely to involve an evening bash which means beer and then a hotel so it would mean taking two days off which is possibly a bit too much.
So I suppose I should extend my original answer to:
A Friday or Saturday.
/edit again as a poll has been added - Out of those three options I chose Friday.
If this is your wedding, and it's during term time, id have no choice but Sunday, though you should plan the wedding around you guys though! important ppl will work it out. It's your day! :) X
Let me extend also. Saturdays are out due to their popularity, and the extra charges they incur.

Exactly the same for Lynnie and myself. Obviously if we were invited we'd love to make it, but without being able to take weekdays off during term time we'd have no chance of making a Friday wedding. It is your day though, you need to do what's best for you guys :)
When is it term time next year then? ;)

I'm flexible, so i'm good with any day.

Absolutely any day you like :)
We chose a Sunday as it was cheaper than a Saturday but a lot of people wouldn't need to take time off work, granted some people would need to take the Monday off but if we had a Saturday nearly everyone would have had to take the Friday off.

Heheh :) The dates when we'll both be off next year (not sure if Picky's will be the same) are....
Monday, 14th February - Friday, 18th February
Monday, 4th April - Friday, 15th April
Monday, 30th May - Friday, 3rd June
Monday, 25th July - Friday 2nd September
That's definitely right for me, Lynnie's should be the same (her school haven't confirmed yet) :)

Are Saturdays really that much more expensive?
Can't say I've ever looked into this :p

When Lynnie and I got married last year, the only thing more expensive for us was the registrar who married us, but I know that prices can vary quite dramatically depending on the locations you want for your ceremony and reception.
For me it's not a prob to get holiday and I'd happily book it for a friend's wedding. However, if it's december or any time between may and september then leon seriously struggles to get holiday. It even interfers with our main holiday (we're having to cut our holiday short this yr). He can ask, but it really is in the lap of the gods on whether he gets it.

Makes no odds to me, maybe a Sunday so the weekend would be there to get to said wedding, and then i'd just take Monday off and poke my tongue out at everyone driving to work when I am just driving home. Friday would be fine too though. (probably doesn't help really ;) )
You can't do it on the Sunday before a bank holiday when everyone would be off anyway can you?

our venue was £500 more in jan on a Saturday, would be more of a difference later in the year!
I'd say either, because I'd try to take 1 day off work either way :)
BB x
I'd say it depends on how far you have to travel. If you're fairly local you can just have the Friday off, travel to wedding and then go home on the Saturday. If you have a long wat to travel you may need to travel on the Thursday incuring the Thursday and Friday off work. So for that reason I'd pick the Sunday guaranteeing just one day off work if people have to stay over.
Having said that, I'd take off whatever time I had to to make a wedding.

I've voted for either, but if it came down to it, Friday would probably be best - then you've got the whole weekend to play with!!!
I can't just have holiday as and when I please unfortunately, due to the nature of my job. So I'd say a Sunday!

As it stands i'd make any day right now so i've chosen that :) I'm still looking for a sensible job though so that could change things, but i'm sure it'll be fine!
I'm happy to book holiday but as with the other teachers on here, will be unable to during term time. Therefore Sunday would be the best day, and like we are doing for the Pigmo wedding, will have to leave early. If it's just the night do, then Friday is best :D

Doesn't matter to me which day of the week. If I'm in the country, all days are the same to me. If pressed to express a preference (I've just said that out loud to myself and it sounds really funny), I'd choose Friday.
Doesn't matter to me, I work 6 days on 4 off so I don't have regular weekends. I'll book time off if I'm invited and I need to :)
If you book it, I will come.

Thanks for the input guys, ours will almost certainly be on a Sunday, and hope some of you dont mind booking a day off work for the Monday?
For the teachers... if you cant possibly put a days holiday in for the Monday, I am worried its a long way for you to travel if you have to potentially go home the Sunday night, would this put you off attending? :(
Nah, we're doing this for the Pigmo so will do it for you :D Think I'm the closest teacher to you though.
What sort of month were you thinking?
I love you :D
Hopefully late May/early June 2011 :)
