Does anyone else really want it to come in a white box with blue stripes? ;D

Tesco really is just getting too big for the UK market, I can't see the software being worthwhile and as for high prices that is just tosh. If you want you can easily get office, antivirus and photo editing tools for free and totally legally, CD/DVD burning might be slightly different but I use Nero anyway and have done for years.

Exactly.
I use Openoffice for office stuff, Avast antivirus and Gimp for photo editing - all of them free (and legal). I can see no reason why I would pay Tesco £20 for their stuff.
Most of their sales will come from those who think you have to pay for something or it won't be any good.
Quite a few people on the rig ask my advice because I "know about computers". One of the most common questions is "Should I upgrade to Norton 2007 as my 2006 is due for renewal soon?". When I tell them that I have used Avast for 3 years without any problems and never paid a penny, they are shocked and beetle off to download it. There are a hell of a lot of people out there who have no idea these things are available and a lot of those who do know about them are not aware that they are reliable.

I don't actually use photo editing software as a general rule but those were the examples I was thinking of, quite a few people now use Avast because I suggested it and every one seems happy.
Must admit I do pay for (and will probably continue to pay for) AntiVirus. It's one of those 'safety blanket' items that I feel more comfortable paying for even though I know free options exist (and are most likely perfectly good).

Probably 90% of people who shop at Tescos to a tee, which I guess is why they're doing it. They have the brand to do reasonable business with this I imagine, given their target consumer, but I agree that I certainly wont be using it. But then, I'm not the target demographic :p
Outside of work I use a legitimate version of Windows, and then free software on top of that, and we get along just fine. In fact I spend a lot more time using Linux these days than doze at home, except when I'm gaming. No need to worry about antivirus then, nor licensing it.
I wonder if they'll releasea Tesco Finest version of it... ;D
This is hillarious - then again I don't "do" Tesco :embarassed:
Can I ask why people are assuming that because it will have the Tesco label on it that it'll be crap?
I dont think it'll be crap. I just know better than to pay for something I dont need to :p

I'm not assuming anything here, I'm saying that I can't see it being worthwhile when free software is good enough. If OpenOffice is comparable with MS Office(and from my experience it is as near as damnit) then Tesco would have to do something special to make me even consider it, I don't know if they are going to do an antivirus but Avast has never given me a moments problem and I've also been using it for a good few years now. For DVD/CD creation I use Nero which I get OEM mostly so again they'd have to be exceptional before I'd consider it.
If Tesco does produce great products then that is fantastic but I rather hope they don't simply because I think they are getting to be way too big and I'd rather see them overstretch themselves here and have to consolidate to produce a good core business than continue to grow and end up with them being the ubiquitous company that does everything as they appear to want.

I don't equate Tesco with quality I'm afraid - call me a snob or whatever I don't care :p. A supermarket is really starting to take the piss if it's selling AV software. I'd rather stick with companies that invest millions into research and development for antivirus solutions. Of course Tesco might well do the same - but it shouldn't. It should be spending it's money on either getting better quality products, improving their stores, paying people more or investing into charity.
Then again I hate supermarkets and would much rather they brought back local butchers, farmers markets and green grocers with decent quality products.
Next thing they'll start selling clothes, dental services, opticians, car mechanics, general practices... I mean they already do banking - frankly it's lamentable.

Ah, but you know this, Joe consumer doesn't. Someone spied an opportunity.

I agree.

I don't have any antivirus - or a firewall.
Never have done, and my PC is fine *touches wood* so I think if you are fairly savvy, which most of you are obviously, you probably don't need anything at all.
